We've got breaking news. Former V.P. Dick Cheney is hospitalized with chest pains. Plus, Pres. Obama unveils his own health care plan. Can he get his own party to back it? It's part of our "Broken Government" special reports all this week.

    I think the legal procedures of adoption in Haiti are so confused.

    I think these children have the chance to be loved and have a better future ith their adoptive parents. It is absurd to take that away from them.

    It's a shame what the arrest of the missionaries is doing to the adoptions in that country.

    It sounds like the PM isn't sure what to say. Doesn't he know if he signed it or not?

    Another great Gary Tuchman story.

    I am not surprised that the Haitian people reacted the way they did.

    Those missionaries did a LOT of damage in Haitia with orphans.

    I truly hope the women get cleared and those orphans get to where they need to go.

    @KIRA KLEAVELAND AC360°, Conservative has always meant small government, low taxes, and fiscal responsibility. The social conservative tag is relatively recent and certainly not universal.

    Great going missionaries! screw it up for everyone else...

    These are the ramifications of the earlier missionaries' doings. They really messed things up.

    With all of the talk recently about conservatism, and republicans who have "lost" their way, and with upcoming Fall election campaigns seen as forums for a conservative revolt, I am wondering how many of us really know what conservatism is? Are "Tea Partiers" really conservative, or ... ?

    What does ... or did the William F. Buckley movement stand for? What would the recently passed Mr. Buckley think of the current conversation on what it means to be a conservative? Anderson, could you do a short history lesson on this political movement to help clarify?

    It sounds like protecting those 10 people charged with child kidnapping is coming at a large price to everyone that is honestly working to adopt orphans in Haiti. Its really sad and not fair to interfer with Haiti's Legal system.

    Re: Dr Sanja Gupta's comment that former VP Cheney gets "world class cardiac care" - exactly how does Cheney's "world class" healthcare differs from the care those of us who have cardiologists that accept Medicare receive?

    Anderson I am so happy that you don't forget about Haiti, and that you keep us informed about what's going on there!!!! I can't believe that they still have after shocks like the one that happened today!

    Good evening Kira Kleaveland.

    I disagree with Dick Cheney's views on the Obama admins release of those lawyer documents on enhanced interrogation, and I don't think we are more vulnerable to terrorism at all at this pt, but I the former VP articulates the hawk pt of vw honestly and clearly.

    Gary's reports on the Haitian adoptions have been fascinating and disturbing. He has done an excellent job following this story!

    I find this Gary Tuchman adoption peice so sad. Hopefully the children will get to be united with their adoptive parents soon.

    February 22, 2010 at 10:22 pm |
  20. A. Smith, Oregon

    The associated press reported that all 33 of the kidnapped children have family and it would have been impossible for the Haitian Govt. to allow those children to be taken as orphans.

    It's actually an expected cause and effect from the Silsby case. Due to this incident, there will definitely be more scrutiny and screening with the process of adoptive kids at this time...and rightfully so.

    @Gabriela

    My father suffered the first heart attack aged 75 years and he didn't want to operate. He lived well, and without operating for 5 years. Me and my brother can't the arguments that convince him, but he lived well and his wishes were respected.

    I hope Mr Cheney! feels well soon.

    @Jo Ann,
    I agree with what you said about Glenn Beck.
    I find his "delivery" is very petulant. I have a difficult time listening to him for long.

    Looking forward to Gary Tuchman's report!

    I hope Mr. Cheney has a speedy recovery. I wish we could all get the same first class treatment he is getting. Most Americans with the history of Mr. Cheney (over 30 years) would be either broke or deceased for lack of health insurance coverage. How about some compromise; Republicans, Independents and Democrats!!!!!!!!!!

  28. KIRA KLEAVELAND AC360°

    the point Anderson just brought up about young conservatives is certainly interesting: Social issues are way down on young conservatives agendas. Based on my own friends. I think most who are Republicans or conservatives, are actually socially liberal and fiscally conservative. obviously not scientific, but interesting, considering what new polling also says.

    There are nuts on both sides, it just takes common sense and a little bit of courage to admit it.

    "Conservative" seems to have a very broad definition. I know quite a few people who say they are conservatives but they don't side with Rush or Glenn and they're not sure what the tea party people are about. It's sort of like defining "freedom". It means different things to different people.

    I agree with some of what Glenn has to say, but I really hate the way he says it. Sometimes I can't take even his good points seriously, they get lost in the delivery.

    coming up, a great peice from Gary Tuchman on the so-called Silsby Effect. Americans with orphans trying to leave Haiti to be united with their adoptive parents but mobbed at the airport and detained.

    @Kim- Ohio,

    Wow, I'm really happy to hear that your grandmother is doing so well!
    That's fantastic! I hope that it has not effected you physically also. I know that in some families, it's hereditary. (or so they say.)

    February 22, 2010 at 10:15 pm |
  45. starr formerly known as vincent

    @Emily

    Sometimes young heart attacks occur due to strong family history (which is am guessing has something to do with genetics).Also heredity and diet can contribute to cholesteral blocks in the arteries

    Others have diabetes, imbalance of electrolyes,and on and on.

    That's all i can think of that would cause young heart attacks.

    Cheney is just stressed that Colin Powell , the only sane voice from his administration has pointed out his purely partisan rhetoric and that he has obvious trouble with the facts.
