Do you wonder what they spent the money on? Jewelry from NY? That is sinful.

PAPA DOC was horrible. He killed many people. I can attest to that. I was in Haiti during that time as a young child and never forgot it.

Make no mistake, the Ton-Ton macute was the boogyman in Haiti for many years.

    @Mike, formerly from Syracuse,

"If the Tom Hanks movie was even half true, Charlie Wilson was quite the character."

    Which movie is this?

    Anderson,
The key point is reimbursement for DEMAT is based off of Medicare rates. Those rates are so far below "actual cost" that hospitals really don't want to take those patients. If the people are stable they can legally be refused. The ten percent is a bonus to get them taken care of. Money well spent in my book.

    @ Tom Foreman,
Cross country skiing on the boulevard is the next big thing I hear

  15. David, Indiana

That's a good plan 110% of medicare. Is it enough though to help with the costs.

That's a horrible injury. So good to see him recovering and to see his wife smiling to know she's going to talk to him. Will there be a way for her to talk to him before he comes home?

A wonderful reunion for Kenzie (sp?) and his family. Very personal moment.

You have snowstorm we have hurricanes – why can't Mother Nature just leave us alone? But you probably enjoy yours more than we do ours – anyhow I feel for you...

I know Vancouver is lacking snow for the Olympics, so perhaps US east coast would like to consider giving the white stuff away!!! LOL

72 inches is an easy winter in Syracuse. The average is 120 inches per year and the record is 192 inches.

    @Gabriela,
Have you ever been somewhere w/snow like that?

I think that the Haitian government should release the 10 Americans and focus on the rebuilding of the country. I think that the Americans have learned a lesson and hopefully the media attention will discourage other people with similar design. Thank you Anderson and Dr. Gupta for the wonderful coverage God bless and protect you!

Tom Foreman - I saw at least 5 people sledding by the lake ( Michigan) this afternoon! Lots of dogs out and they were loving it! Lots of schools out today and tomorrow.

  34. Milan, Berlin,Germany

Woah Washington looks awfully white...reminds me of Berlin right now.....although the reporter looks like he's somewhere in the mountains(looking at the snow)....crosscountry skies to get out of the neighbourhood – that sounds tough to me...

@Jo Ann, "I am sure it wouldn't be the first time this government has been bought off."
    You are absolutely right!

@Jerry, "Can you imagine that hosptials in the US have to have an incentive to accept people that are hurting!!! It sounds like it is all about the $$$$."
Considering the UN blasted the Haitian hospitals who were charging for patient care, this 110% seems totally outrageous!

So why don't we make the federal employees who missed work come in for makeup days like they do with schools?

    Hello everyone,

I just hope those americans are not gonna get away free I hope so for the sake of those children. But again knowing my government it's not impossible... if the price is right...

  42. Milan, Berlin,Germany

@ Emily ... I think what Anderson just said "snow, snow and more snow" is just the motto around here in Europe! It's not just Germany though. At least we can throw snowballs at each other....:)

@Mike, formerly from Syracuse, "Anderson, I think it's time for you to look at where all the money collected has gone. Why must people still scavenge for food?"

I thought they were going to track the money?

BTW, what happened to the "Stealing Haiti" special?

    February 10, 2010 at 10:19 pm |
  45. Heather - Spokane, WA

Im happy that man is doing better. That story is so heartbreaking but it had a happy ending

    February 10, 2010 at 10:18 pm |
  46. Debby

Anderson -Again thank you for the ongoing coverage of the resiliency of the Haitian people. I am surprised that the Haitian government may release the "so-called" missionaries. They displayed a huge disrespect for people who really seek to help the children of Haiti. What will happen to the Haitian people in American hospitals who can be discharged from the hospital but aren't ready to go back to Haiti because the ongoing care they need is not available in Haiti? Please find Johnny for me.

Great report by Dr. Gupta. I did not know Anything about this fund at all!

@Isabel, thank you. And i thought New Mexico was hot during the Summer! Although, where i live, at times, we reach 103F-thankfully not too often.

@Adelaide, "I hate to be cynical, but it appears that the missionaries have 'bought' their release! It will be interesting to see how this ends in the long run."

I am sure it wouldn't be the first time this government has been bought off.
