I lived in Metarie, just outside New Orleans in 1975 as the Super Dome was being completed. Archie Manning, top gun for the Saint's since 1971 played the first game in that new venue. His son Cooper was a year old, Peyton didn't join the family until the following year and Eli 6 years later, a year before his father hung up his helmet and cleats. Cooper, unlike his two younger brothers, never fully realized his dream as a proballer. He was sidelined due to a diagnosis of spinal stenosis in his freshman year of college. Today he still lives in New Orleans as a businessman. I was a Yankee transplant to the area in '75 and you know what grew on me the quickest? Yes, it was the local inhabitants. What a tight knit group, all throughout the state. They take pride in all that is "cajun', whether they are or not. Black and white didn't seem to have the divide that I witnessed throughout the rest of the U.S. The food was great, the many festivals throughout the year were enjoyable, and the people, well they truly have been martyrs over the decades. Maybe that is why I look at them this day as Saints. Les bon temps rouille.
