Live Blog from the Anchor Desk 02/05/10

Tonight on 360°, once again we have breaking developments on the 10 Americans accused of kidnapping 33 children in Haiti. We've been on this story for several days and we keep uncovering new information. Plus, one senator blocking 70 presidential appointments because his pork projects haven't been approved. We've got the raw politics. And, who dat? - the two words with ties this Sunday's Super Bowl.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Hi Dodie! You're right about the banks, however it's the small businesses that need the Loans from the banks that are getting the "shaft" and therefore, unable to hire people and expand.

@ Milan – Berlin,Germany-I agree. The attendees may be there to learn something but the wolves swoop in to fleece the sheep.

The hotel where the tea party is being held is a beautiful place, and the people interviewed seem thoughtful in their activism. It seems more like a forum for discussion than a movement, however–I can see how Sarah Palin would fit in well as a speaker. I don't agree at all with the anti-Obama rhetoric, though.

To the tea party speaker. The word "vote" is not an English word. Any foreign language speaker would have been able to say it.
Tea Party= Point Blank Racism. whether you agree or not.

I have a feeling most of these people don't have any real understanding of the ideas behind our constitution (or the original tea party). Are these freedom-lovers the same people who want to restrict marriage?

Anderson, why are the people being interviewed at the TeaBagger convention referring to the U.S. government as "the government" and "they?" Or "the government" needs to make changes for "us."

I have always throught that WE AMERICANS–all of us-are "the government." Apparently the folks at the convention are from other countries and don't know this.

Also, did you know that the word "democracy" is NOT in the Constitution?

America seems to be leaderless even though you all are surpassing Europe!

They talk about socialism, but still they want the government to give them money on their foreclosures. What gives?

    @Caroline,

I wonder if they will pick up on that?!
The people have been saying that for a long time...perhaps the "climate change" in the weather too will get their attention!

Wouldn't it be cheaper for the Teabaggers to just hang used tea bags around their necks, instead of spending 90$ on a necklace? *wink*

    @ Anderson.............what dat?

The teaparty concepts of lower taxes and less spending aren't 'fringe' ideas. They helped elect Scott Brown.

    February 5, 2010 at 10:40 pm |
  15. A. Smith, Oregon

What does taxes have to do with unconstitutional? Isn't that the fraudulent claims of anti-IRS rogues? Corporations are bankrolling these tea party's in hope of lowering corporate taxes, make no mistake on this!

If banks did not pay billions in bonuses, they could have hired many Americans!

I am deeply offended by the former Representatives rhetoric.

AND, part of the Constitution or Declaration (i'm not sure which) declares ALL (men) people are created EQUally!

Such ignorance and hate speech is demoralizing, offensive and embarassing that some of my fellow Americans feel so "entitled".

Great, they talk about overspending money but they sell a small piece of silver for 90 $ .....hypocrats.

Government is just picking up the lost jobs by Americans. Especially since mega corporations outsourced to other countries. Once corporations start hiring... then the government will shrink. Just like the 1930s and 1940s

@Dodie, Irvine CA. We won't get this storm up in Boston, this time. But it OFTEN looks like that in the winter here.

Tancredo is bashing Hispanics? The GOP apparently already wrote off the huge Hispanic population and now the tea parties also!

@Isabel, yes their actions do seem incoherent in many ways, that may be due to Laura Silsby's rushing into the doing this without, as was reported last night, much planning or foresight. Also good question about the Haitian justice system.

Congratulations Candy Crowley on hosting State of the Union! I missed my chance to say that when you were on AC360 earlier this week.

Anderson you are right, that is a very happy beautiful adoption.

Americans, as other people around the world are noble and giving individuals, this report on Jenna echos that sentiment, in hopes that more peaceful, honest and caring individuals join with them.
