Tonight on 360°, once again we have breaking developments on the 10 Americans accused of kidnapping 33 children in Haiti. We've been on this story for several days and we keep uncovering new information. Plus, one senator blocking 70 presidential appointments because his pork projects haven't been approved. We've got the raw politics. And, who dat? - the two words with ties this Sunday's Super Bowl.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

The orphanage scams the priest is describing is appalling. I don't agree with missionaries running programs established from the outside, so to speak. I think it's good to provide ideas, education, and financial support, but programs should be set up and run by locals who know better what their country and their people need and will respond to.

    Hello AC,

That woman is obviously someone who owes a lot of money. I believe her intentions were to use those kids to open up a bogus orphanage and start collecting money.

Evening Anderson. So many orphans there and she took children that had parents. Any kid that was around. It seems calculating.. Clearly she lied from the papers Karl obtained. From the outside looking in it seems she did the predatory thing. She tried to take advantage of a weakened system. Which is really frightening. What did she have in mind for these kids? and She dragged the other people into this mess. Now she has just made a horrible situation worse. I am sure Haiti want to make an example of her as a warning to others.

It is sad and especially when a country is vulnerable like Haiti at this moment in time...

    Good evening everyone,

This story is getting more and more twisted, can Laura be such a good con artist that she was able to convince the other nine people that she was doing the right thing the right way? Why none of them at some point confronted her, tried to stop her or at least walked away from her obvious crocked/illegal actions? I really feel sorry for the rest of the group and look at that young girl she looks like a teenager there's no way she could have knowingly get involved in something like this...

    Emily,
Yup! you heard that she broke the law........ She will not to able kidnapped orphanage back to DR or U.S. She is danger woman!

It's a terrible thing that there are some people who would take advantage of children. It's obvious Silsby is only concerned with making money.

I think this group did act precipitously.

But frmr Pres Clinton is right about defusing this and the US govt and Haitian govt should work this out.

Oh good pt Anderson, I didn't realize what you were getting at until just now and that is that even with good intentions this group would be drawing support away from other groups who are working more sensibly to help children.

Thank God these kids were saved. This started out as naive and is sounding more twisted...

All during this crisis, with everyone pouring in to help Haiti, I was wondering how could one tell that people with bad intentions were not coming in as well. How do you screen outsiders who are coming to help in a time of crisis? How do we know whether there were not any incidents where kids may have disappeared during this time.. Focus must be on securung the safety of the children.

I dont now what to think did the Nederlanders commit a crime helping those 100 orphans?

    February 5, 2010 at 10:23 pm |
  12. Savannah Toler

She acted knowingly, she lied to get what she wanted and to avoid prosecution. Why not join other groups? She needs to be in charge. If this happened in Idaho the public would be so angry I'd be concerned for her safety.

    @ Emily

I am with you on that one. How could her heart be in the right place when she lied and broke the law. Yeppers........

    @Sabrina in Los Angeles,

"You can't go into a sovereign nation and do what you want."

    Exactly!

If people want to help as was stated, the best way is w/The Red Cross, etc. Groups that know what they are doing.

I think Laura honestly think she thought "Hey Im American" and saw the tragedy that happen in Haiti she thought she could get away with this that no one would question her! The more people she got involved she less obvious her scam would look. I don't think that she was going case harm to these kids but I do think that she was going to sell them off like a previous comment said. She is broke and thought "This is the best way to make money!" People want to help Haiti as much a they can and there are those people who truly want a child and don't want to wait 5 or 6 years they would have paid whatever to get one. I really hope that justest is made and the give her the highest of punishment. She truly did black ball the work of good people down there trying to help kids.

Were the alleged kidnappers planning to put all the children up for adoption according to the document Karl Penhaul referred to?

It's very sad that one woman can wreak havoc on the already horrible situation. She is getting the air time, i wish the focus would go off of her and her stupidity, so that we can continue with helping the hurting in Haiti. Thank you Anderson Cooper for not lumping all missionaries with this woman. The poor children whom she has now caused more undue stress – adding to their already post traumatic stress.. I hope that they will get help through this whole ordeal. I agree not every situation requires adoption, but every situation requires help... adoptive mother, and aid worker for Haiti....

@Dodie, Irvine CA. Of course,I didn't even think of that.Sad how child protection laws don't apply worldwide. If they were enforced there ,there would be no restavek children.Sad....

This is regarding the Haiti children. Has anyone thought of sponsoring a child & their family?

i do agree that the most beneficial thing right now for the orphans is to lend assistance on the ground with established reputable groups (totally agree with anderson on that one)

It seems like Ms. Silsby has left a trail of deceit, misinformation, and poor judgment calls in her wake...In Haiti as well as Idaho.

I can't help but wonder what's going on for her, personally...It's actually pretty sad & she obviously has some baggage.

(But she did break the law & should face the consequences.)

  23. Joe Clark

Tens of thousands of people men women and children dead, dying and suffering. Hours turn to days more are seen dying amputated, little to no help is shown on all cable TV stations.

The kids are suffering no hope no food no life. No Haitian officials nor international armies helping. Rioting shooting killing on the streets disease starvation, no clean water.
Hey these Americans did the best they could, which is better than almost anyone else can saw. They deserve the worlds praise. They deserve Haitian praise.

Yes! Rev. Johnson is hitting it on the head, firing on all 8 cylinders. Foreign Missionary's buying, removing and stealing children from family members under various guises of helping them for dubious purposes!

    February 5, 2010 at 10:21 pm |
  26. Elizabeth

I completly agree with the Rev. It's shopping for children "trolling" is so true. Laura was looking for money period!

    February 5, 2010 at 10:21 pm |
  27. Bill Perrill

She didn't kidnap the kids. They were freely handed over by their parents, correct?

    February 5, 2010 at 10:20 pm |
  28. Lawrence Monaco

She's severely in debt, saw a way to adopt out admist the chaos, in the guise of an Orphanage. That's what she was up to, it appears.

    February 5, 2010 at 10:20 pm |
  29. Heather - Spokane, WA

The term 'trolling for children' just sounds disgusting in itself

I believe the Haitian government should forgive these individuals and allow them a second chance. The Hatian govt is very corrupt and has done more damage to their people as compared to these individuals. I cannot stand to see these the injustice here. The government is more criminal than these people so who are they to judge. Let the people go home and make sure they stay away from Haiti. Jesus did not send them to steal children so they need to get a life.

  31. Anna Marie Person

If there is one good thing that comes out of this – maybe people will be more vigilant and not just assume that people who appear to have a "good heart" are untouchable and/or can do no wrong. If the woman & the rest of the group had "bad hearts" would you really be able to tell? Anyone is going to say that they had the best intentions – if they get caught.

  32. Sabrina in Los Angeles

You can't go into a sovereign nation and do what you want.

You have to proceed based on their laws and with their permission.

NPO/NGO operate within other countries because they follow the host countries rules and provide services WITHIN that host country.

It is very sad that people take advantage.

The leader needs to be charged, the followers need to to charged based on their true understanding.

    Anderson,

I agree and add... The best option is that orphaned children are helped in Haiti itself. They have lost their parents, the house, almost everything .... they should not lose the reference to have as a nation

    February 5, 2010 at 10:20 pm |
  34. Angelica

I can't believe that the other 9 people didn't know anything!!! You don't find people naive enough to not know that crossing the border with over 30 children without the proper documentation is illegal

    February 5, 2010 at 10:20 pm |
  35. Dodie, Irvine CA

If this ring-leader... woman has no problem lying, and doing whatever to gather children, I would be interested in an investigation on missing children in her area here in the USA

Well, she might have been treating the kids like a commodity. But maybe it was more like treating them like puppies.

But many adults treat kids as if they are property-even their own parents.

No,I do not think her heart was in the right place.Laura was losing everthing at home and I think she was acting in a survivlle mode.Like what I just heart on TV she was going to get money.Whic she needed to feed her family and save her house.

@ Mike ...if child slavery would be the only problem Haitian government faces......Sure it's a tough topic and they should do something about it ASAP but right now they have other goals including rebuilding the infrastructure and trying to reduce poverty.

I think these people were inexperienced but not criminals. Our government leaders need to refuse further aid until they are released.

Regarding Laura Silsby, I smell an embezzler. Or bi-polar disorder. Or both. Keep digging CNN, the truth is out there – somewhere.

I think the Haitian government wants to make a strong statement that they are not going to tolerate anyone coming in and just snatching their children away. Hopefully others who may have bad intentions will think twice.

I believe that Laura Sibly & her assistant deceived the other missionaries. They should be held & tried, but the other 8 missionaries should be released.
