Tonight on 360°, new hope for some of Haiti's orphans. Plus, we're tracking your tax dollars used for the stimulus. Are new jobs being created? We also have the rare showdown between Pres. Obama and GOP lawmakers. A Q & A session like you've never seen before.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

I think it was much needed meeting btwn the President and congressional Republicans. Cordial, some partisan curveballs, but I feel a lot of good came out of that meeting for politics in our country.

I can't imagine a bunch of giant lumbering turtles would not cause accidents on that stretch of highway. People will stop, be surprised and swerve out of there lanes, this can happen at all hours of the day. I love the turtle tunnel, a great idea, and glad Randi Kaye did this follow up report.

Wouldn't want to be working on a stimulus project in Antarctica.

@Caroline Maybe a combination fence and tunnel, then? If the turtles are crossing, usually there's a reason that transcends the existence of a roadway right there...

when you come up with a total $ and total jobs, do you do a $/job ratio?

it would be interesting to see how they get sorted that way - it would be cool to see an in-progress listing of where different projects actually fall on an ever-changing list while the projects are being reviewed.

Look, there was a tunnel built 50 years ago. Politics and waste being what is was 50 years ago, compared to today, makes me think that there is a logical need for these new tunnels.

Thanks a million for you are doing in Haiti AC. Miss Laselle knows exactly what you were talking about last night my friend. The Haitian government have been dumping dead people there since Papa Doc. The name of the location is TITANYEN... You are a real hero in each and every hatian eyes AC...

@ Mike, formerly from Syracuse--When people are suffering everyday due to lack of access to health care, everyone needs to table their philosophies in order to care about real people.

Philosophies and ideas are lovely things to have, but they sure don't heal the sick.

    @Kaue,
    Welcome! 🙂

    @Starr,
I agree that Pelosi & Reid have been failures as leaders, as you said. Obama was elected because he said that he Would be involved!

@Larry, Obama said that he was interested in being non-partisan, however, it seems like he has no control there as It's often Reid or Pelosi that is in the news! As stated by others, Obama should be more involved.

Thank you CNN for being on top of the wasteful stimulus list

I heard today on the news that California will receive several billion dollars for fast train mass transit. It is about time. We have No mass transit in my area. Buses are non-existent!

  23. Sabrina in Los Angeles

I agree with the stimulus plan for the Sunset Strip.

It is a destination and we have an image to uphold.

Not only that, all the foot traffic and autos wear it down. By keeping it up we keep So Cal/ LA beautiful.

I saw Rick's show earlier and 109 gobs are being created and all of those saved, by doing this maintanence.

    People are already working.

    Good use of funds.

Wouldn't it be smarter just to build a fence on either side of the highway to keep the animals off of it?

And how are they going to make sure the turtles use the tunnel? Catnip trail?

    January 29, 2010 at 10:51 pm |
  25. Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA

    The Turtle Tunnel:

It's funny Randy was reporting that she found workers "hard at work," and then we see about 6 guys in vests, etc., 4 of which are standing around.

We need more jobs to hire our budget or economy to grow as package stimulus project. Thanks Tom!

Turtles over Haitians!!! Only in America!

    January 29, 2010 at 10:50 pm |
  29. Caroline, Los Angeles

The issues with how the Stimulus Funds are being spent is why I was in favor of a national jobs program instead. But Obama was afraid the Right would call him a Socialist so no direct job creation coming from the top.

Instead we get these silly programs creating 6 jobs for many millions of dollars.

@Caroline, Republicans supported Obama on Afghanistan. We will support things we believe in. Ed Rollins had it right. Why should Republicans give up their beliefs?

These stimulus project stories are remarkably unremarkable with respect to success or failure.
. What is impressive in the huge scope of ideas used.

Tom is pretty good with that Magic Wall! 🙂

    Great info he is providing!

    A note for Anderson:
Please keep on the story of mass burials. Please ask officials ,
Haitian and foreign, on whether those sites will become sacred parks
or memorial areas, not simply meadows to be forgotten.
    Thanks

In order to Circumvent filibusters, the democratic party can utilize the strategy from the Cheney/Bush Administration.

They used the 50-vote budget reconciliation process to end filibusters and managed to pass tax cuts, oil drilling, etc.

I agree, Pelosi and Reid have been failures as leaders. Obama not only needs to scold, he needs to get more involved himself,

    January 29, 2010 at 10:47 pm |

Isn't the president supposed to be non-partisan?

    January 29, 2010 at 10:47 pm |
  38. Mike, formerly from Syracuse

@charlie, the person who killed the abortion doctor is an American citizen who committed the crime in American. The terrorists are foreign combatants. It's not the same at all.

  39. Dodie, Irvine CA

    @ charlie

I agree with you as long as our justice system is able to address all issues. Sometimes criminals get away with murder in the USA because the police report was contaminated, or not filed properly, etc. I do not like throwing out evidence because of a technicality!
