4) No links

Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.

Anderson – Dominos pizza and jello. very down home.
I love those little monkeys. I spent quite a while at the Bronx Zoo last year making faces at one who was imitating me!
JELLO is what you eat when your sick!

Happy New Year to all at CNN. CNN has been a leader in the news industry but I am disappointed with the New Year's coverage in NYC with Anderson Cooper paired with Kathy Griffin. Mr. Cooper is the ultimate professional and does not deserve to have his image damaged when paired with the likes of Kathy Griffin. What on earth has happened to good judgement in providing top notch co-hosts on CNN's New Year's shows? Keep up the good work Anderson Cooper! Please ditch Kathy Griffin next year.
@Megan Dresslar – Shoreline, WA
don't have AC360 on CNN International, but I have Dr. Gupta!
Thanks! 🙂
hi anderson!
i hope you and kathy griffin host new years next year, this is the second year the CA Bar Exam has kept me from enjoying new years and watching the CNN broadcast!
take care, love your reporting! and couldnt put your book down, read it in two nights.
Great show tonight!
Erica, the breakin to the Danish cartoonist's home is a heads up. I feel bad that our Homeland Security published the Danish flight hero's full name and home address to the public.
The quote "the system worked" by our Secretary of Homeland Security referred directly to the actions taken AFTER the NW 253 terrorist was apprehended. I get really tired of people using this out of context–it's misleading.
I just read a breif explanation as to why the Obama Admin. is phasing out the term "enemy combatant". It has to do with the Supreme Court decision in June 2008 that ruled that Guantanamo detainees had the right to access U.S. court system.
Thus calling the underwear bomber an enemy combatant would not remove his right to have a lawyer at all under the latest Supreme Court ruling.
So far, terrorists striking in the US have been mostly handled in the Criminal Court system. Richard Reid, the shoe bomber was prosocuted in the criminal justice system. It's the way it's been done so far. "Enemy Combatants" are people who were captured outside the US
I really think that air travel should begin at staging areas located away from the airport where luggage/travelers can be checked by police/ canine teams before reaching the terminals. From there travelers can be transported to terminals by monorail or bus.
Russian vodka is tops! Their select brands that seldom are exported are really smooth and are supposedly reserved for elite party members and visiting dignitary's. No doubt about it Russians know and appreciate good Vodka.
Happy New Year everyone!
I think terrorists should be treated as common criminals rather than make an enormous international issue out of it and running off to attach whatever country they came from. It may be a better strategy than giving them the prestige of having that much of an impact.
I hope president Obama returns to push his campaign promises in 2010. After watching all the grandstanding in the House of Rep. and Senate over healthcare reform, I became disgusted with our elected officials. 2009 was a terrible year for Change. I hope 2010 will bring real change to our country.
@Emily, it was the Secretary of HLS, Napolitano, who called terrorist attacks 'man caused disasters'. The same Napolitano who just said 'the system worked' after this last attack. Clearly not up to the job.
Ed Henry looks like he has a really tough assignment there! 😛
He's got a great sense of humor about it.
Isabel,
Don't worry about it, Happy New Year to you, HUGS!!!!!!
Hope you have great year! 🙂
We have a bookkeeper, Panetta, leading the CIA, who has ZERO intelligence experience. Obama was warned that this would be a disaster – and it is
@Mike, formerly from Syracuse,
"These terrorists HAVE no Constitutional rights. They are enemy combatants. This is war not a law enforcement action."
I agree 100%, but this administration seems to disagree, which makes these terrorists even more willing to commit these crimes.
I don't understand why they are struggling with this....
He was not born in America! (unlike Tim McV.)
What is the problem?
"These terrorists HAVE no Constitutional rights. They are enemy combatants. This is war not a law enforcement action."
I've always wondered what it is in our laws, Constitution, etc. that gives non-U.S. citizens the same rights as U.S. citizens? I welcome an explanation from anyone here. This bothers me.
Again, so many people want to find Who to Blame instead of How to Fix a Problem.
I think In re Quirin pretty much controls if the government chooses a military tribunal... relax, the constitution is safe.
Anderson, I love this segment with the comedians. Love the pop-culture analysis!
Thanks!
Dept. Homeland Security was created under the notion that all intel agencys would share information. 7 Years later the CIA is not performing that duty and placed the lives of many Americans at risk.
Obama has telegraphed a message of Weakness to our enemies. We have had 8 terror plots against us uncovered in 9 months.
I also love to hear Anderson laugh.
