I do see the need for reform . Families should not have to choose between home or saving a life . Companies should not take your money then drop you after fighting for your life . or jack up your price because you servied cancer or something else.

I seems that Republicans have demonstrated that they have No interest in being involved with Landmark Legislation.

Hopefully, in the future, they may offer more constructive action towards the health care bill.

How is it that premiums are connected to income? And why do the higher end premiums for a family of four seem even higher than they are now?

See Santa Claus has difficult things to deal with when he slides down the chimney.

Why is there so much forfeiture money in that area of Texas? No offense to Gary Tuchman, but calling that prosecutor from Hawaii after this story being done would be upsetting.

The cops down their are just show other criminals that people have items of worth in their cars as they travel, we might see a rise of highway robberies because of their great example of steal from travelers by using the legal system!

@Charlie- Under US law it was a case of parental abduction. She got the kid out of the country under the pretense of going on a week vacation. The father immediately tried to exercise his parental rights by filing suit. One parent can't simply abscond with a child. We prosecute those who do all the time.

@kendal : Nor was there anything suggesting the mother was anything other than a doting mother. My issue is with the US thinking they have some superior rights over other countries legal systems.

Here in the Pacific Northwest, forfeiture laws took many homes and farms which 'sheriff's' supposedly found single pot plants growing and were found to have been sold to those sheriff's cousins and extended family members thru sheriff's auctions for mere pennys.

So glad to see Gary Tuchman doing follow up on the TX "confiscations".

I am also glad to see that something is finally going to be done to stop this outrageous practice.

    Great report Gary!

There are so many rural Boss Hog's that run both the Justice of the Peace as well as their corrupt Police Dept., its refreshing to see at least one of them here in America in the spotlight held accountable.

I'd like to see a celebrity or some billionaire step up and donate their private jet to sit on the ramp and be ready to roll at a moment's notice! I don't want to give Brazil the chance to change their minds while the Goldmans are hangin' in the airport hoping to book the next available flight!

    @ charlie

You have no control over another nations legal system, but to remind them of the laws they they agreed to run by in the International world, but we do have a choice to stop trade with countries, like Brazil and China who support kidnappers!

After asking once and only once if they persist in these bad actions, I would stop arguing and inform them, we will no long be taking any products from their country if they do not follow the agreement! Seven days and this matter would have been closed, that is all they would have!

I think we need to stand up to congress and take away their health care packege . Passed ,present, and future .Make them pay the way we do ,with the companies we have to use .. See how fast they get their act together.

This bill will is going to hurt the middle class. I have a nice health insurance policy and now the government is going interfere, which will increase my cost for insurance. Not to mention, increase burdens on the states, which will increase taxes on property owners. As a result of this bill, many people will see an increase in costs, from all different areas. I have no faith, in both parties, to do anything in the best interest for the people of this country.

Dogs can get swine flu? Oh no...will the present vaccine work on them too (when there is enough for people) or will they have to make a special vaccine for dogs? (smile)

@Charlie- For one, a US citizen was abducted and Brazil refused to return him. If you were abducted and in a foriegn country wouldn't you want the US to intervene on your behalf? Secondly, Brazil and the US both signed the Hague Convention. Brazil was in violation of international law.

This bill on Health Reform is a Joke. The rich making $200,000.
only pay 8% of their wages, and people making $35,000. pay 7%.
The Middle class making $70,000. pay 20% of their wages. Again, the middle class gets screwed!

I am a senior citizen in Florida,on an HMO Plan, I make under 22,000 dollars, what happens to me if I have to be hospitalized? What about medication? Are we still going to have medicare when or if this new health plan takes effect?

    December 22, 2009 at 10:34 pm |
  37. Gery

As a retired Military family we are quite happy with the health care we get as military retirees. If this bill gets passed how will it effect with what we have now. I'm a North Carolina state employee and barely make 40,000 a year and with no raises for the next two years I couldn't afford the plans shown, and still put two children through college. So I guess I'll have to do without the health care. To finish putting my children through college

Uhhh... Charlie... Why do you care about the outcome? It's not a soap opera for your pleasure! It's a capable father and his flesh and blood son who were ripped apart! Have you ever seen any evidence to suggest that Mr. Goldman was anything but a doting father???

Nice graphics for both poetry readings. Pure partisanship on Sen. Burris's part but a humorous light hearted way to express it.. How do you get the Santa hat to move with him?

David Gergen's pt about landmark social legislation very important I think. I feel Republicans should be on board in some way.

Some very good news for the David Goldman and his son. I hope Sean's mother's family can and does visit.

@Isabel, how do you feel about this court decision?

An answer to David Gurgen. The answer to the difference between the past and the present is a a marginalization of the center and left of center of the Republican party. Take a look back in the Johnson administration with Medicare. States like Illinois, Texas, Massacheusetts and New York (20% of the country's then population) each had one Republican and one Democrat senator. Could the national Republican Party support such senators as Tower, Dirksen, Saltonstall and Javits today? Instead, we have seen a rise in the right-of-center Republican candidates, and an equal demise of the right-of-center Democrat candidates. Diversity within the parites has become polarization between the parties.

This is typical governemt corruption. This Healthcare is not what the American public wants, or at least the magority of Americans. The governemt is doing nothing les than pushing the public around and making us have healthcare that we dont want.
