An "excessively loud" triceratops and a little girl's chemical-laced purse were among the items listed in the U.S. Public Interest Research Group's 2009 list of dangerous toys released Tuesday.

The 24th annual report, "Trouble in Toyland," targeted 16 examples of toys in 3 categories: toys that it considers dangerously loud, or containing small parts that may present choking hazards for small children, or containing toxic chemicals or lead.

The toys are made or marketed by various companies throughout the world. Only Hasbro Inc. and Sassy have so far responded to efforts to obtain comment.

My, my how did you and I survive childhood? I pretended that I was a monster by sticking drinking straws up my nose or contested how many marbles I could hold in my mouth and I even drank water directly from a garden hose.

Why is it only during Christmas that we seem to be concerned with the dangers of toys for our children, including toxic toys made on the cheap in other countries.
