Five Guantanamo Bay detainees with alleged ties to the 9/11 conspiracy, including accused mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, will be transferred to New York to go on trial in civilian court, Attorney General Eric Holder announced Friday.

He said he expected all five to be tried together and for prosecutors to seek the death penalty. The trial would be open to the public, although some portions that deal with classified information may be closed, Holder said.

The Obama administration's decision to try the 9-11 detainees in New York is deplorable. This was an act of war and these people should be tried by a Military court outside of the United States.

A family member of one of the victim's expressed her dismay over Attorney General Holder's decision to try the accued in New York; she stated it would be opening the wound. What other location would be a viable alternative? The trial will be so closely watched, and so sensationalized, how could anyone living in the United States expect that they could avoid the attention the trial will get?

While speaking of the five Guantanamo Bay detainees with alleged ties to the 9/11 conspiracy Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Patrick Leahy said that "By trying them in our federal courts, we demonstrate to the world that the most powerful nation on earth also trusts its judicial system – a system respected around the world".
What happens to New York, it's citicens and these 5 detainees if something unforeseen happens and the defendants are found innocent?

I want to know why these war criminals are being transferred to New York for civilian court when they should be tried by military tribunal? And WHY did Obama let his Attorney General make this decision without regard to safety and cost of this trial.

And where is your President now? In Japan far away from news critics and Senators and citizens alike. Why are we being shocked the way our government is being run. Such outrages decisions are being made without the people knowing about things until it happens?

We are sick of the way our leaders are running this country.
