We have breaking news on the battle over the war in Afghanistan. A former U.S. general who is now the U.S. Ambassador in Kabul is warning Pres. Obama not to commit more troops to war zone. Plus, the raw politics of Sarah Palin. She taped her appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show today. We'll have details and talk with the authors of a book about Palin that provides new insight on the former Vice Presidential candidate and Alaska governor.

Here are some of them:
1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)
Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.

Good luck Lou, your opinions may have not be the most popular, but you are still one of the most articulate journalists out there. Good luck and well wishing to you.
I don't think we should send any more troops to Afghanistan while President Karzai is running a corrupt government, particularly now that our ambassador (a former general) has expressed his opposition to sending more troops. Gen. McKrystal needs to use a better strategy in using the troops where they are most needed and accelerate the training of Afghan troops and police.
Did anyone here on the Blog see Lou tonight?
Just what is his "calling", what's "pulling" him?
CNN is not going to be the same?
I'm especially concerned by the rise of Hizb ut-Tahrir in the UK. They have infiltrated universities and schools, and are indoctrinating young people.
Suspected Fake Marine Busted; lol, we think that officially being tainted the biggest loser of the year is punishment is enough for Burton, I hope the feds take that into consideration during his sentence.
Lou Dobbs... it's sad when co-workers many years go away
Lou D. will always be missed...he is the reason why i strayed away from other networks and began to watch CNN. God Bless him as the greatest anchor of any network. He always acted on the true impulse of the people and i will miss his great anchoring.
Lou Dobbs, though opinionated, will be very much missed.
that man that faked being a marine, hero... his punishment should be
that he get sent to the war zone with the marines...put on the front line.
Good luck Lou!
President Lincoln was tortured by his commitment to save the Union thru 4 years of the Civil War. It took monumental courage at the time and he almost lost his last election. Please President Obama, show the same resolve with reference to Afghanistan . An extremely complex people, culture and geography . Most of the population does not want us supporting a corrupt government they don't want . We cannot afford nation rebuilding of that country , nor do we have any business doing it . Support Pakistan & deal with terrorist organization in "other" ways . Please don't make targets of our heros .( How many times has the Humvee been reengineered – just futile & absurd) Time to rebuild our OWN traumatized country !!! Please ! Mr President !!
Obama is being open with the decision to commit more troops to the war just like he promised. His decision affects all of us and we should appreciate his houghtful and deliberate considteration.
Fundamentals everywhere take the FUN out of everything!
Hello Anderson,
Nice see you!!!!! I hope you join us chat or blogging tonight!
To all those asking for Obama to send more troops right now and saying he is weak if he doesn't, I ask a question. To what end? What is the goal? How will the US succeed (whatever that means) where all empires have failed?
Thanks for having this Blog, Anderson. Thanks to all our brave troops on this Veteran's Day.
@anderson,with out the politics of the situation in afghan, what is your thoughts on the war?
I can hear everyone freaking right now. Oh no, Obama is asking for real details. I have heard a lot of people from previous years talk about how there was a lot of carpet staring when such was asked for. Apparently, Obama wants, as he should, answers and not carpet staring. Good for him.
Lou Dobbs i will miss you forever, seriously.I belong to your party.
Isn't it somewhat ironic that our military folks needed to be "rescued" by civillian police. Even the soldier interviewed noted it was odd to be shot at but not have a means to defend hemself.
Lou had guts, I will miss his candor. I wish him the best of luck!
Hi everyone. Thanks to all the vets out there. Thank you for your service. This is coming from a daughter of a Vietnam Vet.
Just a thought, are there any cameras/video in the receiving line in Ft Hood?
OH NO!
Lou Dobbs is leaving CNN!? 🙁
Lou Dobbs left, I am jumping with joy.
Wow, \how did he get away with it???take a look at the medals.
I don't like or respect Prejean, but that looked like an ambush to me.
I think the radicals need to leave if you dont like the USA then leave.Seems to me they don't mind staying here and spending American dollars. Why don't they go and be cowards like their hero Bin Laden ? If he is such a great man why can't he fight with his group?
The Generals are always going to want more troops. They are not policy makers!
The POTUS is the Commander in Chief.
If President Obama has the guts to admit that the war in Afghanistan is a lost cause not worthy of further American sacrifice, good for him - and shame on those who will criticize him for trying to correct President Bush's gravest mistake. Here's hoping he announces a schedule for withdrawal of troops - not deployment of more men and women whose lives would be wasted in a no-win situation.
@bloggers,
Did Pres. Obama finally make a decision about Afghanistan?
[sorry, I'm late here tonight! 😀 ]
Hi everyone,
If former president Bush is as smart as president Obama, we would not be in this position. This is not a game. People's lives are at stake. He should continue to take his time and weigh all his options. If he did not take his time, made a sudden decision he would be scrutinized for his decision.
@starr thats why we need to get out.i did not like bush sending troops there too.that was a mistake that will haunt him in the history books.
no one has beaten the afghanis-ever- obama needs to live up to his campaign promises of jobs, alternate energy, close gitmo, reign in wall street greed, bring home the troops.so far, he is a a great disappointmen tand i voted for him
Sending more troops will be another American tagedy, just like Vietnam. It's just unthinkable. How many more lives are we willing to lose.
It seems so simple if you look at the history of Afghanistan. Russia went in to do the same thing America is trying to do. Russia left. France went in to do the same thing. France left. Germany was asked to go in but said thanks but no thanks. I feel you need to quote the saying "History repeats itself" Also these people have been fighting each other for centuries it will never stop. We need to leave as soon as possible. Thank you.
I don't know anyone who believes we should send more troops, but just the opposite. The Iraqi people did not ask us to come, the 911 terrorists are not there but here and we cant change the Iraq government next week, next year or in the next century. History has proved this over and over again.
Obama has to start trusting the American people because Congress and Senate have stopped speaking for us. Our troops signed up to defend our country not to to fight a war without merit. The only Alqueda that present a problem to us are the ones we let in at every American airport.
Anne Marie Burns
That "fraud" solider story....sick & shamefu!
Looking forward to hearing what happened to him!
@Erica & Megan Dressler
You are so Right! It is Veterans' Day & i forgot to wish All of our Vets on the blog, as well as their families, the biggest Thank You for all that you have done for us.
We will Never forget.
@Dr. Gupta,
great interview
For the President: Forgot to add. Get us out of the war as it only feeds more terrorists.
Congrats for Sgt. Kimberly Munley!!!!! She is our hero, I am thinking I could vote her best of year, "The Heroes"!
Erica, you mean the Dobb's announcement? I can only say w00t. He was the only thing I've seen on the network that is NOT at least mostly fair and somewhat balanced. Drove me nuts.
My father is a veteran of Vietnam. Thank you dad!
Who is our new surgeon general after Sanjay turned Obama down?
This is great reporting by Dr. Gupta...
so sad that this happened! 🙁
The #1 Priority is to protect the troops in Afghan now. If we cannot secure the support of NATO and the Afghan govt., we should pull out. Bring our troops home. We need to do a better job of protecting our troops on American bases.
@ Anderson
Good evening ... it's good to have you blogging with us, if possible
I understand, our President "not being satisfied".
We must talk about peace. We, as a nation can be STRONG, we do not have to flaunt our immense military power. We must remember that the the international community is all of us.
i say us being in afghastan 8 yrs now is enough. nothing has worked in 8 yrs enough is enough .bring our boys home now . i mean what does this country do for us,let them fight each other
Good evening Anderson, Erica, Megan. and Bloggers!
Happy Veterans Day (to the Americans) & Happy Remembrance Day (to the Canadians) 🙂
