This FOX story makes the White House look bad.

Like the gentleman tried to point out, if you are going to have a standard, it should be the same towards everyone.
I agree, just ignore FOX, i know i do.

I am concerned for Mayumi. Isn't there domestic violence in Richard's past?

I agree with you: "Jeff Toobin is so right........the Heenes were wrong to teach their children to lie. "

In general, all the news channels are opinion based, but none of them will admit to it.

@Erica "Somehow, I don't think any member of the Heene family will ever again question who Wolf is..."

I think you are so right.

Something is telling me that the Heene family will remember Wolf, esp. after that CNN interview!

I love that..."Nixonian Enemies List." What's so unusual about that? From main street (small businesses) to the White House, everybody has a written enemies list.

Isn't it sad that these boy's will grow up to know that their father forced them to be part of a high-profile "botched hoax"!! Shame on the mom as well!! >:/

Erica, your comment- and understatement to say the least.

The Heene's did seem to have some family togetherness, and as they were all in on the flying saucer hoax, I hope authorities don't even think about taking the children away. Some counseling though would help.

No more Balloon Boy coverage? I'm bumming. If Anderson is going to officially be "done" with the Balloon Boy story, he has to at least go out with the bang by playing the "Richard Heene, Science Detective" Theme song......one more time.....please?

I'm going to miss the snark.... 🙁

"Who the hell is Wolf?" – That line brings a smile to my face everytime I hear it. I hope that are fined or have to perform community service.

I'm so pleased that the truth is now out there, for everyone.

However, from now on, any reference to this story on CNN should be accompanied by the "Fifth Dimension" singing "Up, Up & Away (In My Beautiful Balloon).........just for Wolf Blitzer's benefit!

Jeff Toobin is so right........the Heenes were wrong to teach their children to lie. And to curse on national TV as well.

    I love that Wolf clip

    October 23, 2009 at 10:34 pm |
  31. Isabel Siaba, Brazil

    @ David, Indiana

I agree with you! Thankfully, the mother brought out the truth! It was a dignified attitude in middle to irresponsible behavior if we think that an airport was closed and 2 helicopters of the National Guard were used ... public money spent on a 'hoax'.

  32. starr, formerly known as vincent

Thank You Anderson for stating the balloon story is over for you!

It's 8:31 MNT and thisone is for the books.

Gotta love "who the hell is wolf?" Nice ending to a very over-exposed story.

  33. Pauline

Is Anderson aware that this family were featured on Wife Swap USA? I saw the programme here in Scotland earlier tonight. It was disturbing to watch as the both parents came across as quite crazy, especially the father. They claim to be "storm chasers" on that programme. The father has a temper that certainly needs attended to. For his sake, and his children.

Poor children what kind of mixed message are the parents send them. Lie to get what you want.

I agree with Jeffrey Tubin on that matter.

Great TV – snarky Anderson Cooper with equally funny Jeff Toobin and Lisa Bloom. Great way to report on this story!! I hope the kids get the hlep they need....

  37. Tim

I know that the Heene family needs to be seen to be punished so there is not a rash of follow-up hoaxes. But I do admire the Richard; he is presumably struggling to provide for his Family, and rather than rob a bank, he creates a new story that grips the world for 2 hours. I also think the circumstance was a beneficial exercise for emergency responders.

    October 23, 2009 at 10:32 pm |
  38. Emily

What about the way that they exploited their kids, Jeff?

    October 23, 2009 at 10:32 pm |

I love this segment! Cooper, Toobin and Bloom!!! Awesome last names!

    October 23, 2009 at 10:32 pm |
  40. Irene

Goodness!!... The family should definitly be purnished. They should be restricted from any access to reality shows for some time period. Atleast to purnish for their wrong motives. They should be purnish for also teaching the kids how to lie.

    October 23, 2009 at 10:32 pm |
  41. Jacqueline, NY

    LOL!
Aaww,I feel so sorry for Jeff, but he is right. You guys are too funny.

Ahh Jeff, at least you have a sense of humor about it!?

"just like every other normal family with a flying saucer in the backyard"! 😛

@ David Indiana, Mrs. Heene may Not have known about the scheme, or if she did, she Believed that her son was in the balloon.

    October 23, 2009 at 10:31 pm |
  48. Judy

I believe CNN and all other news reports should stop talking about "balloon boy" and let the law take care of these people who have used a stupid prank that cost the community money and time.

    ENOUGH!!

    October 23, 2009 at 10:30 pm |
  49. Paolo

Happy Friday everyone! Balloon boy's family certainly made themselves more marketable for something: court charges.
