The problem with our students lack of motivation to learn is not the school system but the lack of parenting taking place at home. Not every child that enters a school wants to learn or cares to learn. Wanting and understanding that an education is important starts at home at an early age. Unfortunately this is not taking place because parents either don't know how to be parents or those that know how to be parents don't have enough time to be parents. Not having enough time to be parents is the result of the many hours parents have to spend working two or sometime three jobs just to pay basic bills. Because the economy is the way it is, this problem will only become more of a burden to our national educational system.
I agree that you can't throw money at it..the money runs out. In Philadelphia, contracts with disciplinary schools were cut back because now there is less money than there was before. So the students were thrown back into the public schools without any programs in place for their return; don't you think for a moment that kids aren't being beaten up now. Do you think this was in the paper? Nope. Not until someone is killed; then you'll hear that the money dried up so they had to do something with the kids. And by the way, Philly should stop getting their superintendents from Chicago..duh!
