The poppy fields that produce the opium are easy to take care of and are very profitable upon harvest – farmers can make more from this crop than other crops that take more maintenance. There are some people looking for other crop alternatives but so far I don't think one has been found that is as lucrative as the opium/poppies themselves. How do you break the opium addiction? Does opium in Afghan comes from their poppy fields? Do poppies grow in Afghan thru the year? Some more information please about opium and why are the Afghans so addicted to opium?
