Live Blog from the Anchor Desk 9/1/09

In Southern California–where peak fire season hasn’t even officially begun yet–a huge and deadly wildfire continues to burn out of control tonight.

We’ll also have the latest on the Jaycee Lee Dugard kidnapping investigation. Officials believe at least two unsolved kidnappings may be linked to Phillip Garrido, the man charged with kidnapping and raping Dugard.

Tonight we’re launching a series of reports on the illegal sale of human organs. Our worldwide investigation has uncovered a thriving black market for human kidneys–right here in the United States.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Okay, the moral of this story should be, keep your eyes open, KNOW your neighbors and actually KNOW who they are! How many Garridos must be out there and how many of us are within a few feet from someone like Jaycee? I'm learning awareness from all of this. Thank you AC360 for breaking down the story and bringing all these people that knew this man forth...Now I am curious about the wife, who is Nancy Garrido and why did she go along with all these atrocities? I know Phillip Garrido has the criminal background but what about his wife? What was this woman thinking and why did she allow this to happen to this poor girl?

Hi Anderson and Erica I'm glad that you are making the good point that these sex offenders need to be monitored more closely and this is a problem that needs to be addressed.

People need to call their government officials and demand this registry. I have mine on speed dial!

I remember when Pres. Bush signed the Adam Walsh act several years ago.

I was Astounded to find that (much like No Child Left Behind)remains UNfunded!

There is no excuse in our country for Not funding an important law like Adam Walsh Act.

Garrido is a seiously disturbed person. I hope that is he is found guilty that he doent get the opportunity to spend life in prison..he deserves the death penalty. His wife deserves life in prison with no chance of parole.

You can't blame the police for what happened with Jaycee. It's disgusting that everybody wants to find the blame for what happened. Some bad things just happened without it being anybody's faults. Garrido is a once in the blue moon thing.

ALL Sexual Offenders in the US need to be checked and doubled check. Go through the house, the attic, the yards, sheds...Uncover every stone on the property!

Glad to hear there is some containment of those fires in California. Some of those flames look like blowtorches or the inside of a blast furnace. That area is particularly vulnerable to a wildfire because it hasn't seen on in some 60 years so there's a tremdous growth of brush and thus fuel

Hello everyone! man, this fire is huge!! how much of it is under control?

Are the authorities sure Jaycee's "kids" are actually that...her biological children?...and not other kidnapped kids?

I think all involved should be cautious not to sound like "blaming the victim" because Jacee and her children didn't try to get away.

    Dear Anderson,
If Garrido was on probation, where a probation was supposed to regularly check on him, why didn't the probation officer EVER, search his house and yard.
He is a violent offernder and the officer never felt the need to check his house and yard?????????
And we are worried about terrorists!!!!!!!!!!

I just still can't believe that none of the neighboors ever realized or even thought that this man Garrido had Jaycee kidnapped for 18 years!

Why don't we have a national sex offender registry? That is unbelievable!

It sounds like Jaycee is intelligent, even though she didn't go to school beyond eleven years of age. I wonder if she will ever write a book and if writing a book would help the healing process.

Anderson pls find out how it is that Jaycee give birth to two girls. Was a midwife or Dr involved.I find this has not been explored yet.
    Love your show.

I think Garrido is a punk and should be punished severely. My heart goes to the victims and their families. What about Garrido's wife, she had to know too, she is an unsavory character. As far as sex offenders, we need a federal system of tracking them.

sadly the failure of the police system is nation wide, we had that problem up north a couple of times.

Garrido was given a 50 year sentence for raping another woman. He only served 10 years of that sentence. What is being done to hold the individuals accountable for setting him free in the first place and how many more of these time bombs are walking the streets and parks of our communities. Can we get a camera in front of the judge or DA responsible?

How much longer, or how worse can a case get before America, its people and our courts system realize once a predator always a predator, lets see the reports!

Good evening Anderson! I really think its time to start considering new rape sentencing guidelines. Too many cases of this!

    Anderson,
Hi! It's great to see you on tonight.
The Garrido story just keeps getting more repulsive.

That guy shouldn't blame himself. It was up to the legal system to keep this guy locked up.

Good evening Anderson, Erica, Isabel, everyone. Sorry I'm a bit late. I think this story does give hope that a missing loved one can return.

Good point Anderson, the community does seemed to be shocked and reeling and dealing with that.

That backyard is an incredible mess.

    @Mike, Syracuse NY

I second your statement! When you hear the entire history of this man's crimes, it is AMAZING that he was let out after only 11 yrs.

And, then, pretty much UNsupervised for the last 2 decades! I don't get it and i beleive a lot of other people don't get it either, to include the police and parole officers.

Evening Anderson. I pray Jaycee and her children are well and happily getting acqainted with family.

Garrido is an example of a justice system that needs reform...why in the world would anyone allow this "reformed" parolee free? He already demonstrated that he is mentally unbalanced.

    September 1, 2009 at 10:07 pm |
  36. Cynthia, NC

Good evening. This new information about Phillip Garrido is sickening. How are individuals like him able to freely roam this earth? Thank goodness Jaycee and her children are now safe and away from that monster.

So sorry for California; for Garrido's case i think it is has something to do with what he fed him self "garbage in garbage out".

Oh man, Garrido is one seriously creepy guy. I hope those families get some closure.

    September 1, 2009 at 10:06 pm |
  40. Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio

Hi Anderson, The authorities in California should be held responsible for letting Garrido go free and not reporting his parole violation to the Nevada authorities.

Garrido and his wife are both sick scumbags.

    September 1, 2009 at 10:06 pm |
  41. Mike, Syracuse, NY

With admission like Garrido made at his trial why would any sane person let him out on parole? He should have been buried in a dark hole and never let out.

  42. Sharon Hastings

Good evening Anderson and all. Happy first of September. Can anyone explain the decision to release these predators when obviously so many if not most cannot successfully be monitored while out of custody and so repeat, repeat, repeat. Can you imagine the lives ruined by these people?

    September 1, 2009 at 10:04 pm |
  43. Nicole Correale, 16, Toronto, Canada

    good evening, Anderson!
i hope Garrido gets thrown in prison for life for what he did
it's so sad when you think about how many people like him are still out there
btw, that interview was confusing last night...
