Singer Michael Jackson had lethal levels of the drug propofol in his blood when he died, according to court documents.
Los Angeles' coroner Dr. Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran reached that preliminary conclusion after reviewing toxicology results carried out on Jackson's blood, according to an affidavit.
The drug Diprivan, known by its generic name propofol, is administered intravenously in operating rooms as a general anesthetic, the manufacturer AstraZeneca told CNN.

Anderson Cooper, I am not happy with you. With so many conflicting reports, why would you ask on national television how Michael Jackson could've been a good father to his children under the influence of drugs? Michael was a hands on father and the children are more than well adjusted, which should make people wonder whether or not Michael really had an addiction after '93 and if something more repulsive isn't going on with the doctors that were involved, with AEG, the Cornoner's office and/or the investigation.
Dear Anderson
I question the practical experience of your "addictions expert" last night with his statement about "massive doses" of sedatives provided. That as quite a rush to judgement statement! The doses documented are not at all massive in the setting of an addict with high tolerance for these sedatives. Your anaesthesia consultant correctly pointed out that 25mg of propofol was actually a small dose. 2mg doses of Ativan and Versed given over time are also not large doses and commonly used in the hospital environment..
Dr Murray is in hot water for a number of reasons and his irrational and inappropriate administration of these medications without proper monitoring will be hard to defend. There also is a discrepancy between the dose of propofol he claims to have administered and the "lethal levels of propofol" claimed by the coroner's investigation.

how come yoy are blaming jackson for what happened ? i mean did any of your read the affidavite , the doctors gave him all sort of drugs , JACKSON did not ask for them , he kept injecting him with drug after drug as a form of treatment to wean his so called addcition to propofol when propofol was NOT AN ADDCITIVE DRUG , he was trying to wean an addcition by replacing a non addcitive drug with highly addictive drugS .
Jackson only asked for propofol because nothing else worked , that was the case before , he indeed tried to treat these severe insomnia before BUT NOTHING WORKED , the guy had obligations to meet , he was rehearsing 8 hours, he needed sleep , he was not taking it to get high . THIS IS NOT Elvis getting drugs to get high or Anna nicole , the guy took it because he could not sleep . what part you did not understand ?
with all that's going on these days do we really to cover an accused pedifile who has been dead for weeks and not has been buried? that should give you a clue about those who claim him as family.
i really like anderson cooper and cambell brown, but for days a large part of their programs has been dedicated to this. TODAY WAS THE LAST STRAW!! NO MORE!!! i will change my tivo list.
really really had enough
My goodness – This is absolutely the craziest thing being reported!
Even if Mr. Jackson demanded/requested/flaunted his money/threatened the doctor to give him the drug so that he could get some sleep, what made Dr. Murray believe he was qualified to administer this drug?
This is a blatant homicide with intention to kill. Murray knew that he was not qualified to administer any of these drugs...yet he proceeded to do so? He is a heart doctor for crying out loud!
And how did he really meet Mr. Jackson anyway? Why was he "treating" Mr. Jackson's child for a minor cold when they first met? He is NOT a pediatrician!!! What is this MADNESS?
Furthermore, regarding the nurse who made this case known about Mr. Jackson wanting diprovan...why in the world did she wait so long to make it known that this drug was being used outside of a hospital setting?
This is one BIG cover up. I really do not think we (the public) will every really get the complete and true story behind this mess of an occurrence.
Sadly, someone is now dead (Mr. Jackson) and no one is being held responsible for their contributions to his demise.
Sad indeed.
I think ac360 is keeping america great!!!
I read the article from CNN: Propofol DILUTED with lidocaine? Is this doc nuts?!!! I cannot believe the vodoo concoction of drugs this 'cardiologist-turned-anesthesiologist' gave MJ.......no wonder MJ died! what in the hell was he thinking? I know procedural nurses that work with concious sedation and I am around anesthesia docs all the time and even they couldn't believe what was administered when I showed them the list of meds he got-they all weren't surprised why he died. Either way this was absolute negligence (sure Dr. Murray had to go to the bathroom when things started to hit the fan, I bet he's just lying) and this doctor needs to go to the slammer! Propofol is NOT an indication for sleep deprivation!
I cannot seem to fathom Dr Murray...ONLY if he would have refused Michael, he would still be here,
VIP patients often get the worst care because they often direct it. VIP patients want more meds and get them. Money is not an issue. Often, VIPs are seen as potential sources of financial gain – donations, endowments, etc. I saw it all the time having worked in a major teaching hospital for 15 years.
Dear Anderson,
Finally, I am single. I am happy. I booked the US Airway on 8/27/09 early morning and will arrive the La Guardia Airport at 7:33 a.m. I hope you will pick me up. See you soon.
About the doctor(s) who gave the drugs to Michael Jackson, they should be prosecuted because they all lied and said that they did not give propotol to him which caused his death. I can't wait to see the justice served.
This is a tragic example of someone with wealth and celebrity pressuring a physician to give him something which should only be used in a hospital setting. It was inappropriate and sloppy medicine.
What should be controlled are physicians practicing with this kind of risk.
Cardiologists treating drug addicts probably is as bad an idea as psychiatrists treating cardiac arrests.
This is really disturbing. What a terrible tragedy. The use of pharmaceutical drugs today are out of control. The medical profession needs to wake up. A quick fix isn't the answer.
I remember seeing a movie about something like this in Hillsborough County. It was in Riverview, Florida. The actor's name was either John or James Cusack way back in March of 2008. Anyway, in cases like this, shouldn't the Attorney General be involved? This was a fraud. When people have problems like this, shouldn't they see a mental health counselor? I'll bet if he was on medicaid instead of some private insurance this never would have happened. Someone will eventually be arrested for this.
If Dipravan is an extremely powerful sedative, perhaps the authorities should search the House and Senate, that may help explain an awful lot.
This isn't a surprise finding after all the weeks of reporting on this drug. If this doctor hadn't given it to him, MJ had enough money and thought he needed the drug enough he would have found some doctor or even a non-medical person who knew how to do it , to give it to him. It was MJ's choice to pursue getting someone to give him the drug; it was the doctor's choice to do it; bad choices all around.
I hope that evil man goes to jail for what he did to Michael Jackson!
He was a cardiologist! he should of preformed CPR properly when Michael went into that cardiac arrest! and he should of called the paramedics earlier!
The world will miss you Michael Jackson! RIP! 🙁
There are issues in this story.
1. Michael Jackson was addicted to drugs whatever they were.
He was willing to spend his money on any doctor that would give them to him.
2. You have a doctor that didn't follow his oath and gave them for the money. With total disreguard to the laws that govern drug prescriptions.
As a former nurse, I hope they throw the book at the doctor.
Here we go...fasten your seatbelts its going to be a bumpy ride!
The US of A has a patent on American Style Celebrities. This one who could not merely fall asleep on his own they called the King. But you can’t sue the government when you do freakish dancing of stage and like the attention..
This sickens me!
Regardless to what Michael may have wanted, That so-called doctor took a oath!
First do no harm... Once asgain, For the love of money
is the root of all evil. RIP Michael, Happy 51st 29 August, 2009
May justice be served!
