Michael Jackson’s hair: A real gem?

Jennifer Wolfe
CNN Entertainment Unit Supervising Producer

At first I thought it had to be a joke: making diamonds from the DNA of Michael Jackson? Following his recent death, entrepreneurs rushed to get unauthorized biographies, memorabilia and other Jackson-themed items to market. But diamonds from DNA? It sounded macabre.

Apparently, it’s possible. LifeGem “specializes in creating diamonds from locks of hair,” and according to founder Dean VandenBiesen, the company plans “to give people an opportunity to own a diamond made from Michael Jackson’s DNA.”

I think that is something completely vile. I love Michael and always have but this is completely inappropriate. Especially since these slimy people are just doing it to make money.

Your first feeling was right. It is a joke! What kind of society have we become that this would be considered acceptable on any level?

There is one thing that your quests have not considered, at least from my observing your broadcast, and that is that once a drug is approved by the Food and Drug Administration for a specific indication physicians are able to use that drug for an off label use if the percieved benefit out weighs the risk. So to say that the drug should not have been given to Michael Jackson in that setting may not be completely correct.

Was the drug given at full strength? Was Michael observed continuously post dosing? Was the appropriate resuscitative equipment available to support respiration?

I saw an alledged board certified family medicine physician on another program asserting that it was inappropriate for Michael to be resuscitatated on a bed. I am curious to know the number of patients that she has seen taken from their bed in the hospital setting during the administration of ACLS.

I have been wondering how Michael Jackson became aware of the drug diprivan. Some where there is a doctor who introduced Michael to this dangerous drug. I think at the very least he/she should be investigated as well and any doctor who gave him this drug.

Crazyness after crazyness!... Or, just plain stupidity!... If, these 'scientists' can 'create diamonds' out of locks of hair, then whomever really belonged that 'hair piece' that Michael Jackson wore over his head should be contacted and get a portion of the profits!... Right?!

Give me a break! Let the poor guy rest in peace. He has already suffered having his hair catch fire, drug addiction, sexual abuse allegations....now he's DEAD! Enough already. Now u want diamonds made out of his hair? I say bury his hair with him,,,,wherever that is!

No I wouldn't buy one – the whole idea is somewhat creepy. I don't even want to see one. Yuck!
