Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links

Tom looks like he should get a job as a valet driver.

Is the moral of this story that we should not drive large SUVs?

if texting and driving is bad, so is shaving and driving, eating a bowl of cereal and driving, applying make up and driving.........well you get my point....lol...........they all require the driver to take their attention from the most important thing – driving

I see people so reluctant to use the hands free.
I don’t understand that. Since 1995 I have mobile and despite many believe that hands free a luxury this time, I always used, but usually when someone makes a mess in traffic, is talking on the cell phone is using and occupying one of hands.

What's the risk when I'm trying to find my song on my 8 track player while driving my Pinto and talking on my CB?

So typical too...to 'care' about the unborn but not to take responsibility for lives.

    July 28, 2009 at 10:46 pm |
  11. Bea from Pennsylvania

Texting while driving should be outlawed in all states!

Do we really need a "study" to tell us that it's dangerous to text while driving? I had a bad experience just answering my cell phone while driving so I don't anymore.

That is the problem....you have to put it on top of the steering wheel, not down to your side.

Oh, please. I drive down the road putting on my makeup.

Maybe there needs to be a law about texting while driving if its becoming a big problem. It is harder to do on a keypad than a full QWERTY.

You know... I admire the people who can text and drive at the same time! I can't even text and WALK at the same time! I once hit a wall while texting and walking. hahahaha 😀

@Minou in NYC – I would imagine his lawyer told him to plead Not Guilty – otherwise, its a lot of prison time...

Yikes, my daughter texts while she drives and scares me to death.

Great report by Gary! I am not sure if Roeder is mentally disturbed or just evil, maybe both, but either way he deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law.

  24. Angela - Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

I can't imagine the pain Roeder's wife is going through 🙁

I cant stand it when people like Rueter who are obviously guilty plead not guily. I know you are innocent until proven but if its as obvious as this then you shouldnt bother. I couldnt be a defense attorney for this guy.

    July 28, 2009 at 10:43 pm |
  27. Rose from Muscoy

    Roeder's ex-wife is a victim of wife abuse what a so-call man.

    July 28, 2009 at 10:43 pm |
  28. Dulcie - Denver

    Excellent interview by Gary Tuchman.

Roeder is a nutjob, pure and simple. I can understand being against abortion and protesting, etc. But I can't understand murder – a gross disregard for life.

    July 28, 2009 at 10:43 pm |
  29. Chris Sosa - Boston, MA

@Erica – Actually, there was a situation in which extremist Buddhist monks attacked a school.

    July 28, 2009 at 10:43 pm |
  30. Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA

That's so scary to hear his ex-wife to speak to Gary Tuchman first time her interview. I am glad her ex-husband to stay jail!

Anderson, great "get" on the interview with his wife.

Gary Tuchman is the man! What an excellent piece of reporting.

I really feel for Roeder's wife.

Anytime someone deliberately takes another human life, there should be a death penalty in place.

    July 28, 2009 at 10:41 pm |
  37. Nicole S. -- North Carolina

No one has the right to take another person's life. God is the ultimate judge. People are just onlookers.

He more than likely doesn't think what he did was wrong.

    July 28, 2009 at 10:41 pm |

IThis Scott person actually thinks he's innocent. Incredible.

Impressed by the interview you guys got with Roeder's ex-wife. Wasn't expecting that.

    July 28, 2009 at 10:39 pm |
  43. Minou, New York City

Why would this man plead "not guilty". He stands by his deed and thinks it was a good thing, how could he now say he's not guilty?

    July 28, 2009 at 10:38 pm |
  44. ericacnn

@Cynthia, @Jarius – sadly, most religions do have extremists who can give their faith a bad name, esp for the moderate, mainstream followers. I will admit, I've never heard of a violent, extremist Buddhist... but that may be the only one

What does that say about home grown Americans?

My guess is that the feds are trying to scare or draw out the big guys.
