Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

How can you be disorderly in your own home?

Good evening Anderson and all bloggers. I don't know what happened at Professor Gate's house but the President should not have said what he did. He is usually so careful about choosing his words. He chose the wrong words.

I guess the only two people who know what really went on are Gates and Crowely. Maybe we'll never know. I like Watkins take on it though. He's a very fair man.

Coincidentally the incident with the teacher occurred in the same week of the BIA!

Police officers are trained observers and I trust the police report as being factual, not mere opinion.

Did you guys get a chance to look at the police report? you can read it in the blog, Sgt. Crowley explains what he was doing when he arrested Gates

What ever went on there, it should have been done with calmness on both parties.

arresting someone in thier own home when the evidence is clear it is thier home is not only wrong but it is criminal.

Cambridge police say we don't have all the facts, so why don't they give us all the facts?

Roland is wrong. The police gave him his badge number. maybe Gates didn't hear it cause he was yelling too much.

Officer Crowley was called to this home, he didn't come there voluntarily. Maybe we should be pointing fingers at the person who made the call.

Good evening all, the President did clearly state he was biased because this was a friend of his. What we don't know is what exactly happened. Two people will give their own impression of what happened.

  16. Dulcie - Denver

I have occasionally had to break into my own home through a front window after locking my keys in my house. Dumb, I know, but I've never been questioned by a cop, day or night. Of course, my neighbors know me and I'm a white, middle aged woman.

Heck, they're probably laughing too hard to call the cops.

Racial profiling happens everyday. The whole situation is messed up. The officer is wrong and too arrogant to apologize. Plain and simple.

Read the police report. There are statements from 2 cops, both of which agree that Gates was disorderly.

    Hello Anderson.

I still think we the public don't know the truth in the Gates case. Crowley and Gate gave two completely different stories. I would like to know the truth. I know Gates is a friend of Obama, but w/o the whole truth Obama didn't need to go there yesterday. That wasn't appropriate.

It's been reported that some of Gates' rant was caught on tape in a police transmission. Let's hear the tape.

  25. Jasmine - Spokane, WA (Spokan't)

wow, it seems like this story won't be going away for a while. I think Mr. Gates, should just make his point eloquently enough so no one can argue against it.

Obama probably shouldn't have commented on the case, this should only be between the witness, Mr. Gates and the police officer, no one else.

    July 23, 2009 at 10:05 pm |
  26. Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio

We don't really know who the victim is here.

When there is a story like the professor's I like to think that there are three sides to every story......one side's story, the other side's story, and the truth.

    July 23, 2009 at 10:04 pm |
  28. Mike, Syracuse, NY

When will the other side get told? Crowley taught classes on racial profiling. Hardly someone who would be a loose cannon.

    July 23, 2009 at 10:04 pm |
  29. Cindy

Gates was at fault for what happened because he would not comply with police and was fussing.

  31. Casey Jones, Palm Springs, CA

It was not appropriate for the President to comment, at all. However, what I'm truly annoyed at is that the media has given this story so much attention. It's like we bounce from one obsession to another in the media.

Good evening, Anderson, Erica and Fellow Bloggers -

Afraid no one will really know what happened in the arrest of Professor Gates - except Professor Gates and the arresting officer.

Hi Anderson, Obama had no business giving his opinion on an ongoing investigation. He admittedly did not know the facts, but did it anyway.
