Video: Michael Jackson's changing face

Charlotte Triggs

Even after more than a dozen smash hits, Michael Jackson never shook the insecurities he developed during his childhood, when he was mercilessly teased by his father. Jackson said his dad repeatedly told him: "God, your nose is big." Hearing that, "you want to die," Jackson said in a 2003 documentary. "And on top of it, you got to go on stage ... in front of hundreds of thousands of people and, just God, it's just hard. I would've been happier wearing a mask."

In a way, he ended up doing that: Starting with a nose job in the early 1980s, Jackson radically transformed his face, although he would only ever admit to a second nose job and the skin condition vitiligo (in which pigment-producing cells are destroyed). But plastic-surgery experts say vitiligo alone would not have left his skin such an even shade and add that, based on photos, the rumors of eye lifts, cheek implants, chin work and skin bleaching likely have some credence.

Says Dr. Wallace Goodstein, who shared a practice with Jackson's former plastic surgeon in the early '90s: "There's no question he had too many inappropriate surgeries. And they didn't serve him well."

  2. careful...

Everybody is touched by this sad, sad incident. I love Michael Jackson and will continue to support his family with my prayers and the purchasing of his music. He was so outstandingly talented and gifted... and his gifts made room for him just as the Bible says our gifts will do (Proverbs 18:16) "and bring him before great men." Michael was brought before the world with his talent and we celebrated and praised him and his performance. Yet, he was still, at the end of the day, still just a man. Just as frail and fallible as the rest of us so we must be very careful not to judge him to harshly, there's only one True judge and we shall all be judged by him someday ("it is appointed to every man once to die, and then the judgement." Hebrews 9:27) whether we believe it or not. God's commandment to us (the world) is that we Love one another as Michael tried to do. I only wish he knew how to include his original self in the Love that he gave to the world through his music and giving spirit... but God understands. And to the Jackson family, may God's Love and strength grant you comfort and peace now in your time of bereavement and forever more. R.I.P. Michael Jackson....rest in peace.

The world will miss MJ. but he will never be forgotten. I just hope his kids are well looked after and have a better life.. With all his money and fame he was still a very sad person. May he rest in peace.

Michael Jackson was a Blessed and Gifts Man with the heart of a Child!
and when you listen to his music, try to understand him by loving him first. God blessed him with so many gits, but it was a shame that noone cared another to love the person instead of what the person can do or what they could get from him. Michael Jackson was the lonely Man in the world. I am sorry that he never aloud God to direct his steps in life, instead of the leaches and wolfs of this world. But I thank God for his mother who tried to save her son. She always knew how to comfort and encourage him with the love of a mother. The world was blessed with a diamond, but they treated him like glass. I say to his father was it worth it you may have the fame, money but do you have the same family you had back on Jackson St. Was it worth it..... Joe Jackson. Nothing takes the place of family!
