It's hot in here.
It's day two since Governor Mark Sanford emerged from a secret trip to Argentina to announce he had been having an affair with a woman there.
We're in a conference room built for about 30 people, but it might be holding more than double that number as the governor tells his cabinet to continue with their duties.
He apologized to all his cabinet members in a brief opening comment then he got down to state business.
All indications seem to suggest that Sanford is looking for a way to salvage his political career. I wonder if he is feeling the heat?
Voices on both sides of the aisle are calling for his resignation.

I'd rather see the MJ coverage then the Election coverage BS over in Iran. and..........
Spitzer went for being a BAD BOY, Blogo went because he is a crook of sorts and NOW SANFORD needs to go for being a BAD BOY (the other lady wise and spending the states much needed $$'s and for NOT caring about his FAMILY or STATE), while he was off getting his thingie between his legs serviced. He's a CREEP CREEP CREEP!!!
If the governor used taxpayer money to pay for his trips to see his girlfriend, then that's it. Paying back the state is not good enough.
Loved Candy Crowley's reporting on this the other night. She's always got the politics down.
Agree with Mari and Peter - enough with the Michael Jackson coverage.
64$ Question – Gov's future personal status.
Has he renounced his desire to be with the Argentinian woman? I do not recall him stating during is press conference that he went to Argentinia to personally end his foreigh romantic endeavor.
should the Senator from South Carolina resign? If he used public money to give this woman gifts and take these trips yes he should step down.its bad enough that you cant be reached then to find out he is out of the country.Maybe he should take a permanent hike away from public office. Infidelity is one thing that between him and his wife but using public monies to do his dirty work and unexceptable.
Mark Sanford should resign.Hasnt he caused this state enough greif.First he didnt want to take the stimulus and now that he HAD to he goes to Argentina.I wonder if we paid for that too.He makes our state look like a joke. It's obviouse that he doesnt care for South Carolina's well being.

Lets not impeach him because of the affair...it seems like his personal life shouldn't affect his political career.
Instead, lets impeach him because he skipped out on a few work days! Everyone who has a job can tell you that even one shift of "no-call / no-show" will almost certainly get you fired!
Also, who paid for his travels? I will feel robbed if it was the USA that paid for his flight, food, etc.
This is what Sanford once said about Clinton:
“I think it would be much better for the country and for him personally (to resign). I come from the business side. If you had a chairman or president in the business world facing these allegations, he’d be gone.” [Then Rep. Mark Sanford on President Clinton, The Post and Courier, 9/12/98]
Sanford should resign, no one in our state respects him or wants in office. He makes our state look horrible, South Carolina is so much better than him.
Actually Sanford should be FIRED. After all, who would have a job after being missing from work for 5 days? We'd all be fired. You flake off on your job, and you are fired.
@ Peter........ Agree with you! Enough already with Jackson, ONE day was enough!
Sandford, another sad story about a sad person who is not worthy of serving the people of S.C. Let's all move on to the next (R) that would like to destroy their lives and others. Next
will miss the king of pop
miss not miss the gover. of SC- he should go
He abandoned his job. The most important thing is he misused taxpayer money. I could care less about his involvement with some other woman, that's his wife's business and problem. He should be ousted for the people of South Carolina.
It makes no difference if he replaces the money, He stole it to begin with and would not replace it if he didn't get caught.
He needs to be replaced period.
A person with any real moral values would just apologize and step down in as dignified a manner as possible under the circumstances. We have already seen that he doesn't practice what he preaches, though.
Why doesn't the legislature just call an emergency session, vote to impeach the idiot and replace him? He left his job for several days ( 5 I think) with absolutely no concern about what to do in his absence. HE left to phone number where he could be reached. If this had been a military person he probably would be court martialed. As a civilian he should be fired and would be fired if it were you or me. He abandoned the job that the peopleof South Carolina elected him to do and should be replaced. Period the end.
I am very sadden by the passing of this GREAT HUMAN FORCE not just in music but service to the world!!!!! But I am also disappointed at you CNN as I watched the coverage of his death all you can seem to put on your ticker tape was everthing negative about him. And still none of it was proving to be true in a court of law!! Shame on you, shame on you all!!!!!!!! Respect the KING!!!!!!!!!
Please demand that this taxpayer sponsored world traveler resign; the hard working, ethical Americans should not have to stomach yet another hack who travels the world on junket after junket.
Mr. Sanford, please go away.
Anderson, sorry to hear of MJ passing, but enough is enough with all the reporting. There are other more important stories out there, like will the North Koreans attack the US. There has been no info since the other day when the saber rattling started. Why all the hush hush with regards to the Korean situation.
The Gov...
The Governor is no "cheater" something to tell to be "left "alone. The Fact of Matter is he's a secret person. Secret people report only to secret people... I like Dogo Argentina they are guardian...
...H...
I don't think Sanford will resign unless he is just totally forced out of office. He probably thinks he is entitled to the job and to be able to do as he pleases no matter what.
