I am a physician and what I don't understand abuot health care reform is that we already have 3 federally funded health insurance programs (Medicare, Medicaid and S-CHIP). The government is now planning to add a 4th. Why not throw out the other 3 programs and offer the new program to all Americans on a sliding scale fee ranging say from $5 per month for someone living at the poverty level all the way up to a full fee. This way we have less overhead in administering the program and also each person using program puts somethng back into it, (even if it is only a little bit). This might actually make the health care plan affordable. My fear is that politician will not put this logical option on the table for fear of being accused of introducing "a single payor source." This, however, is not a single payor source but rather a single federal insurance. We can still have as many private insurers in this country as we choose.

President Obama says President Lula (Brazil) is an example of "political pragmatism" to the rulers of other countries.

    I can not agree, unfortunately.

One thing I notice about Obama's press conferences is that he tends to talk WITH the reporters and not TO them like Bush did. After listening to him I feel like I witnessed a conversation and not a proclamation.....

From what Obama had to say Health care is a work in progress still and he wants to make it good enough that the private insurers will try to do more with less as well. All the places I have worked that offered health insurance always had a caveat in their benefits that the company was free at any time to drop the insurance. I think that is more likely to happen then the private insurers trying to do better. Barring any rules to prohibit this, Big companies will see it as a way to cut cost and they will drop their coverage so their employees have to go with the government plan.

Obama's comment on the death of the young girl in Iran that it was heartbreaking and that it was important to let Iran know we were watching I think is just the right tone to have right now.

President Obama; tell us about your involvement in the sub-prime mortgages and how ACORN, Bill Clinton & Penny Pritzker (your campaign finance chairperson) are not targets of your explanation of the mortgage crisis?
