95% cured – I wonder if Michelle would agree with that percentage? Kind of sounds like being "just a little bit pregnant" to me. I admire Obama for recognizing he has a problem and with trying to do something about it, including telling us about his efforts to quit. Maybe by example alone he will inspire other smokers to stop smoking too.

The #1 way to get people to start smoking is to criminalize it.

Ruby: Grow up! there are far more demanding things going on in this country, then the Republicans giving Obama a hard time. Did you stop to think that maybe the reason GWB, had a hard time with his drinking was because of the Democrats. Do you see how really stupid both of our remarks are? The Republican are not the reason for Obama smoking any more than the Dems are the reason GWB drank!

Sorry Mr.President-95% quitting is NOT quitting. Quitting is easy, I quit 4 times. Seriously, it's very hard to quit smoking. Keep trying. The best of luck.

We should have a great health care system in place by the time he gets sick

It's hard to believe, with all that's happening in the world, a seasoned reporter would waste her one question on an non-issue. Aggravating too, since female reporters fought a long battle to cover 'real issues' instead of being relegated to 'lifestyle' stuff.

As the President said, the bill wasn't about him, it was about the practice of tobacco companies purposely uping the amount of nicotine in cigarettes to make the addiction quicker and stronger for new smokers.

The President said it all: it's not about him, it's about the future – that's his style. Refreshing, isn't it?

Larry, I am afraid you are fascist, and I would just like to point out that smoking is healthier than Fascism.

Besides, have you never taken a history class? Alcohol used to be illegal and all it brought were gangsters with tommy guns.

As for Obama, you and my roommate can be quit-smoking buddies lol

This is the worst time for the President to quit smoking, he has to deal with the republicans, they drive someone to smoke. Taking smack about the position he is taking on Iran. Just thinking about the non sense, I need a cigarette.

Just goes to show you that no one is perfect. We ALL have something we struggle with, some people are simply more honest than others.

Good for you, Mr. President, keep working at it, you will kick the habit!

If the ban is unworkable, as more difficult for manufacturers can, the better!

It's cool know that the president did not smoke in front of the family.

Making tobacco and its production illegal would make so many economies suffer; the government would lose billions of taxpayer money, which is never a good day for anyone. It's not just the USA but countries that are known to smoke like chimneys, like Japan. Japan has cigarettes in vending machines for goodness sake, just imagine all the fuss the smokers are going to make. The sales of tobacco are too precious and too profitable to stop indefinitely. Oh and I am from Japan so I know what I'm talking about.

He's being honest. It is hard to quit. Hey, while making tobacco illegal let's not forget an even more lethal 'alcohol' illegal.

That will go on well with tobacco producers and the states whose main cash crop is tobacco...

To Larry: Sure put more people out of work! Why not make alcoholic beverages illegal too! I'm a non smoker, But I believe smokers have rights too. Our own government used to put cigarettes in military rations.

I wish Obama luck. It can be very difficult quitting smoking; especially if your mind isn't in the right place for it. I unfortunately smoked for 34 years but finally quit in 2002. I used the patches and chewed sugar free gum but I got through it and haven't "fallen off the wagon" at all.

Tell him to man up and just stop, that is the only real way to quit, if you have to have one once in a while then you have not quit. Dude you have great health insurance use it.

Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known to man and it has been engineered for decades by an industry to be even more addictive, add marketing techniques, starting them young so it becomes part of who they will always be, and one can understand why the man with the most pressure in the world can't 100% kick the habit, and he can't try hypnotism since the must be some law against that being done to a President, so he smokes now and then, but he should be aware that combination of stress and smoking, make him a prime candidate for cancer or a heart attack in 10 years... so please Mr President try to smoke and make laws against ALL addictive substances including psychiatric meds that are very addictive like benzodienes etc.

So what..he is like millions of others, why people are so interested in his personal life? soon we will probably hear that President Obama is wearing "Fruit of the Loom" underwear.

Just make the production and sales of all tobacco products illegal for starters.
