Tonight on 360°, a Continental jet lands safely at Newark airport, with the first officer at the controls. Passengers say that's when they learned the 60-year-old captain had died during the cross-Atlantic flight, apparently from natural causes. A doctor on board was called to help. Should the crew have told all the passengers what was happening?

What are the people in Iran fighting for or against for that matter. No one has made it clear, are these people supporting Mousavi or are they standing up against the government?

It would have been appropiate if the crew would have let know the passengers! I feel bad for the passengers because they didn't kow nothing til they hit the ground. It could have been anything and they weren't informed

I'm so curious about the Ayatollah's speech tomorrow. I wonder what reaction it will bring about. I hope there won't be more violence.

COnsidering the fact I am flying back to Europe in two months on Air France, I am not excited about all these flight stories we've been hearing about. And I don't enjoy flying to begin with...

Wild, the pilot dies at something he probably love to do. It's a good thing that there is a co-pilot in flight as well. May God be with his family and friends.

    Angelina Jolie is a Saint!
She reminds me of a Hollywood Mother Teresa.

Yes, why Isabel? Seems like everytime a nation is trying to emerge as a democracy, a lot of violence and protests follow. So sad in this day and age.

Hi Anderson, Erica, and all the bloggers here – rough day for air travel it seems. The pictures from Iran make me wonder if we are seeing the beginnings of another Iranian revolution like the one they had in the 1970s after the Shah left. Maybe this time if they if they have a revolution they will leave the religious body out of the government.

Keep up the good work Anderson.
The most excellent coverage of Iran movement; please keep this going; I have become such a fan of your program since you started covering this and inviting those like Dr. Milani who analyze the situation unbiased and intelligently.

Tragic about the pilot. I can't see why the passengers should be told. I wouldn't want to have known.

Who did the Supreme Leader say won the election?
Who is the Supreme Leader and is he a cleric?
If he already said Ahmadineajed is President, doesnt that mean
he is now forced to endorse him?

The crew on the Continental jet made the right decision to withhold the details; otherwise sheer panic would have ensued for the remainder of the flight...

The main legislative body of Iran decided to invite the three candidates defeated in the disputed presidential election to discuss their complaints in a meeting, but does that solve anything?

    Good evening,
As a travel veteran, I respectfully say that the passengers should not have been advised of this situation. They were never in any danger.
Continental, and their amazing flight crew, did what needed to be done. That is, ensure safe passage of all passengers on board.
May God bless the Captain. I trust that he died doing what he loved to do! We should all be so fortunate.

  44. Dani

I would only want to know if our lives were in serious danger. I think it was handled properly, no cause for alarm. There were capable people to take over. If they told the passengers it would have incited some amount of hysteria, and numerous questions keeping the attendents from doing their jobs! Kudos to how it was handled!
My question is, how often are pilots given thorough physicals? Maybe it should be once a year to check for blockages around the heart etc, after all its not just THEIR lives at stake!
