First Concerts: AC360° contributors reminisce...

Erica and Anderson have been reminiscing about their first concerts. Anderson couldn’t remember if his was Grandmaster Flash, the Furious Five or Elvis Costello. Erica admitted she saw Peter, Paul, and Mary with her dad.
That got all of us thinking about our own first concerts. What was yours?
We asked you to guess the first concerts of AC360° Contributors.
Here are some answers.
David Gergen: "That was a long time ago - maybe the late 50s - and I can't remember whether it was Perry Como or Bo Diddley - or whether I was wearing white shoes or a bomber jacket."
Tom Foreman: "My first real concert was a whopper: Elvis Presley when I was 16 years old." Read Tom Foreman's post on his experience here.
Jeffrey Toobin: "I went to a Chicago concert at Madison Square Garden. At the end of the concert, everyone lit matches and held them in the air. I thought this was evidence that this was the greatest concert ever. (I didn't realize this was done at every concert, all the time.)"
Gloria Borger: "I remember my fist concert. It was Livingston Taylor, and I went with my (now) husband while we were in college. Too bad I was really disappointed because I thought he was taking me to see James Taylor, his brother. It turned out to be fine, although the only song I can remember now is "Carolina Day," which I would swear is a James Taylor song. But it's not; I looked it up. The next concert event was much better: The Chambers Brothers. I recall the only song they played was "Time Has Come Today." In fact, I think the set isn't over yet!"

I am only 22 and am a fan of music before my time, so reading all of this has made me very jealous... my first concert was Michael Jackson in South Africa in the 90s..... Yay me...

My first concert was in 1964. I was 13 and my sister was 11 and we snuck out of the house and took the A- train to Comiskey park to see the Beatles. The tickets were $4.50 each.Then we couldn't talk about it around our parents for two years because they would have killed us.. We weren't allowed to go more than a block from home. But, c'mon ...........The Beatles!!
November, 1972 during my first year in university. About a dozen of my newest best friends took the bus downtown and together we had a dinner of Chinese food at Sam The Chinese Food Man's restaurant upstairs from Sam The Record Man at Yonge and Dundas. Then it was off to Massey Hall to see Cat Stevens perform. We had great seats (centre balcony, 3rd row) and I think the tickets were $7 or $8 each and I still remember it as one of the absolute best concerts I've ever attended. Cat was impeccable, a real stickler about giving a perfect performance and at one point he became quite irritated by his band mates because they began a number a bit out of synch. He stopped and made them re-start the song.
My first concert was Peter Frampton when I was in 9th grade with Debbie Blackman & Karen Darrow at the Broome County Arena, Binghamton, Ny. I have my ticket stub at home. My last concert was the Vans warped Tour, took my daughter & her friends.

Lisa Bloom brought back some good memories! I've seen the Eagles, but my first concert was Chicago. I remember this boy used to embarrass the hell out of me by getting on his knees @ my desk in 7th or 8th grade, singing "Just you and me, simple & free . . . " I'd hide behind my long hair. lol Hey Jim, ya out there? 😉
My son and I had a great time @ his first concert: ZZ Top. We went in our cheap sunglasses.
Joan Jett! WAY cool! I was still in High School. She played at the local university in San Marcos, Texas.
My 1st was Aerosmith, 1980s, Springfield,MA general admission. Major snowstorm, roads were closed and we all, including the band were stuck there.I got home the next morning; did I mention I went without permission? Big trouble the next day but so worth it!
My very first concert was Rick James and One Way. We traveled 2 hrs to Pittsburgh to see him and it was crazy. He came on stage with 2 replicas of marijuana joints on each side of him that were taller than he was! He appeared high but still gave a great performance. Very memorable evening...
My first concert was Bumbershoot. The Seattle Arts & Music Festival. Not quite sure who played first but R.E.M. played at some point that day.
My first concert was at the Carolina Coliseum, in Columbia, South Carolina, with my best friend to see M.C. Hammer's 2 Legit 2 Quit world tour. the opening acts where Oaktown's 357, Jodeci and Boys 2 Men. That was a concert I'll never forget, Hammer put on a show. My friend and I were hoarse for about a week.

My 1st concert was in the early 70s and it was Judas Priest, Blue Oyster Cult, and Brownsville Station. It rocked! Or I should say it was far out man, lol.
My first concert was back in1979 in Baton Rouge, [age 13 1/2] Friday night Michael Jackson w/ The Jacksons plus Jeffery Osborne w/ LTD I was full of butterflies because of the crowd and noise but the Jacksons, put on one heck of a show. My parents suprised me with the ticket.

1st concert likely right after moved to DC – one of the Watergate concerts. Yes. Well before the Watergate Hotel Complex, Watergate was the site of summertime concerts, often the various military bands and others on a barge in the Potomac. Audience in canoes or on the shore.
My first concert I it was my 11th birthday 7/14/89 and I saw Motley Crue with my sister who is 7 years older than me and I have seen many concerts since then including Crue 3 more times!
My first concert was Herman's Hermits in a fuddy duddy civic auditorium in St. Louis. So much for cutting edge concert venues in the Mid West at that time. And it so happens that my LAST concert was seeing those same Herman's Hermits (much older version) at Lake Tahoe last summer. Again in a dreary setting now that I think of it–they were at the Horizon in some bleak back room rather than at a main concert stage where the big boys play. Kind of reminded me of Hugh Grant in "Music and Lyrics."

My last concert was an outdoor concert at Niagara Falls Hall and Oates played there on summer .That was only a few years ago i'm not really a cool concert goer any way !
