President Obama – Keeping them honest

[cnn-photo-caption image=http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2009/POLITICS/06/11/health.care.debate/art.obama.townhall.afp.jpg]

Editor's Note: We couldn't help but wonder whether Obama's speechwriters might be watching 360º every night after hearing Obama's speech today at the town-hall style meeting in Greenbay, Wisconsin. He cited the phrase, "keep them honest," referring to insurance providers and their role in Obama's proposed health care plan. Under this new health care system, a "national" option for a public health care plan, Obama says, would allow consumers to compare benefits and prices with private insurance companies, increasing the competition among private insurers.

"One of the options in the exchange should be a public insurance option - because if the private insurance companies have to compete with a public option, it will keep them honest and help keep prices down."

Why would he not listen to 360? Every night, you all do nothing but praise him, no matter what he says, or who he picks for what position, he is always right. You keep putting him so high up on that stool, when he does fall, it will really hurt. He is not GOD, he makes mistakes, start being the News Station that you claim to be and hold him responsible for some of the remarks he makes, and pep\ople he chooses. He picked all those Dems who had Tax problems, and you all did not find anything wrong with that. If that had been you or I we would probably be in Jail.

As we learned about three years ago.... didnt Mr. Obama himself "lift" some info from MLK's speech and use as his own? So lifting a little catch phrase from 360 is par for the course.

I am sure that Mr. Obama's speechwriters watch both spectrums of the news media, from cnn to fox, in order to get their "stories" straight.

As a politician, using the word HONEST should rarely be done. It will come back to bite ya every time.

Another Air Force One trip for a speech no one believes and he could have delivered from the White House....hmmm....but he might have actually had to answer some questions. He is not good at answering questions....no speech writer or teleprompter.

I saw your piece on how certain law enforcement agencies are consficating money from citizens under the forfeiture law. There is another program out there that is basically doing the same thing and in the process defrauding the federal government. Email me for further details.

I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of Pres. Obama's speachwriters watched AC360 on an occasional basis.

I watch because the show presents opposing views without making either side look foolish. Some of the guests are controversial and even hold views that are objectionable to me, but Anderson Cooper treats them all with respect, asks good questions, listens to them and allows them to speak their piece (unless they get all long-winded and ranty). I realize that not all conservatives feel that they get a fair airing on CNN, but I think they do a good job.

I also appreciate that Anderson Cooper doesn't allow his guests to yell and talk over each other. I had to turn off Campbell Brown the other day because the guests were all screaming at each other. I can't stand that. I understand that it was a passionate subject (free speach vs. hate speach), but it was just too much for me.

Can we cut taxes and cut spending? What is it so damn hard.

    Balance the books morons.

Failure 1. Bush: Cut Taxes, Borrowed and Spent.

Failure 2. Obama: Raise taxes, Barrow and Spend.

Hello people. When they say we run a deficit. It means all our taxes can't add up for all the spending we do. (Medicare, wars, education, etc..)

people need to wake up. Stop listening to CNN and hear real economist like David Walker (former GAO of the United States) GOOGLE IT.

I hope President Obama himself, his speechwriters, and all politicians, for that matter, are fans of AC360. In my opinion, there is no better place to listen to the true voice of the people than on these blogs. If they wonder what we are thinking on a certain subject, CNN has that subject covered, with comments the President really needs to hear. And please Pres. Obama drop Tom Foreman a line.

well of course he means it... he'll arm wrestle all the customers right out of the hands of private insurers...

the very same way his acorn goons arm wrestled AIG and GM to the mat

"It won't be in the best interest of XXXX insurance company LLc to pay more than this for this service"

I am a Canadian and was just talking to an American woman and she told me that the banks were bailed out but the American people have not been bailed out. She has lost her job and home and has no income at the present time. The bank charges her for overdrawn items of approx. $7.00 /item and a daily fee. Why do the banks need a bialout with those kind of rediculous fees. The avereage American is being taken by the banks. How is the normal working person suppose to afford that. It is always catch up. That is not helping the economy. Big business is still big business and getting bigger. Thought that you might do a story on this. Banks were bailed out but not the average American. Banks were bailed out but still charge large fees which should be stopped.

I am most touched by the zeal of obama to get at the heels of insurance companies as ,he has for banks and mortgage companies and firms,i belief is time for consumer advocacy to prevail over jungle capitalism.
its time to be optimistic and upfront about the future, i belief capitalisnm has shown its failures .its time to capitulate to an economic model based on the whole rather than the individual.
the future is meant for those with an evolutionary spirit ,the best in each of us can better be characterised , with a certain degree of modesty as to ethics.
lets help obama bring out the best of himself, by voting for his health plan and standing by him in confronting issues as the criminal attacks on jews , muslims and christians

Obama is on track and he is a strong leader. I wish snmall minded people will leave him alone or better yet support him. His goals are high and that is what we want after eight years of nothing but war. I hope the GOP just gets with it - their whole platform is from the past. I would rather not hear ever again about Palin. Hate crime should care a manditory sentence of 20 years - it is actually treason. Read the constitution. Freedom of speech and hate crimes are two different things. Let's all get along and work together for the good of the country not a bunch of old ideas.

They need to think about letting everyone go through a national system. Right now when you look for a job part of the equation that you consider is the extent of the company's health insurance offerings in their benefits. If this was done outside of the job in a national system, it would relieve the company of a large cost associated with labor, allowing the company to compete better in the marketplace and have products with a price that could compete globally. The employee would not have to worry about losing their health insurance if they are laid off, fired, or transfer to a different job. Small business would be able to compete for the best employee talent on a more equal footing with large business. Doing it this way I think would be a great advantage to everyone involved.
