Suspect claims 'victory' in closing of slain doctor's clinic

Program Note: Dr. George Tiller, whose Kansas women’s clinic frequently took center stage in the U.S. debate over abortion, was shot and killed while serving as an usher at his Wichita church last Sunday morning. His death has sparked much conversation about abortion and late-term abortion. Tune in to AC360º at 10 P.M. ET for more on the suspect in the case, Scott Roeder, and hear what he told CNN today.

An anti-abortion activist suspected in the death of Kansas doctor George Tiller told CNN on Tuesday the closing of Tiller's women's clinic is "a victory for all the unborn children."

Scott Roeder, 51, would not admit to CNN's Ted Rowlands that he killed Tiller, who was gunned down at his church May 31.

But he said if he is convicted in Tiller's slaying, "the entire motive was the defense of the unborn."

Tiller's family said in a statement Tuesday the clinic he headed will permanently close.

At the time Roeder was interviewed Tuesday, Rowlands had not received word of the permanent closure. But Roeder asked if Tiller's clinic was currently operating, and told it was not, said, "Good."

He said the closure would mean "no more slicing and dicing of the unborn child in the mother's womb and no more needles of poison into the baby's heart to stop the heart from beating, and no more partial-birth abortions."

The murder of Dr. Tiller and the subsequent closing of his clinic is a death sentence for many women whose lives would have been saved had they had access to late term abortion. Dr. Tiller saved the lives of countless women. Late term abortion is done primarily to save the life of the Mother. Why is there no mention or awareness of that?
Why is the life of the Mother not being considered or even seemingly valued by this Pro Life group?

I think Chris and Tim summed up my view on this perfectly. Where were your tough follow up questions? How do you allow a guest, who is a butcher, pass so easely? This is why Fox News dominates!

my mother was pregnant with me, 72yrs. ago...if the view that george tiller had, was availabe, legally, i wouldn't have become a minister for jesus...i agree with tim gibson, that murder is wrong, no matter who the killer is...the alleged killer will be tried in a court of man's law, but george tiller will be tried in God's court of Law..I don't judge him, God and the aborted fetuses will stand in judgment on him."

I hope that the government will take a closure look at these anti abortion activist because obviously some of them are unstable. I do not approve of all abortions but some are neccessary. I hope that the radical bill orielly and all the other people that like to spread lies and calls names to people that are legally in this profession should be watched. it's just plain wrong to kill someone off of ones beflief and that's why there are laws in this country.

Listening to your last discussion with a killer doctor was so offensive. I can not believe that he can go public with his practice. He is nothing more than a murder provider. If he is an OB/GYN by training I can't believe it. He must not be able to get a job in his chosen profession and has resorted to this barbaric practice in the name of "helping women" WHATEVER!! If he can put his head on a pillow at night and go to sleep he must be on heavy medication. And to think they think waterboarding is torture. Go figure.

I would really like for someone to explain why abortions are done in the third trimester. I think this needs clarification.

Why would a woman carry a child for six months and end a pregnancy?

Are the third trimester abortions medical necessities?

Your assistance in education in these areas would be greatly appreciated.

Scott should be elected President of the United States for defending people who can not defend them selves. It's commendable that the next bay was spared this doctors viscous attack. They call Vic a dog killer and call a baby killer DOCTOR. Thank You

Roeder and Carhart belong in the same cell - they're both murderers.

I cannot believe you give this murderer a platform on your tv program to spew his hate and "justify" his crime. It's disgusting. I went to Yale with you and would expect some higher level of professionalism rather than this tabloid journalism that allows a heinous criminal to sensationalize your news program to increase your ratings. There is no justifiable reason for you to allow him to be a celebtrity and to augment his hateful actions. Shame on you and CNN.

While murder remains murder, be in through abortion or through acts upon those who commit the murder themselves as in this case in which Mr. Tiller paid the price for the murders he committed even if they are sanctioned by law as is the death penalty, all are murder.

Yet out of the darkness comes light in the fact that this abortion clinic will now be closed and end a chapter in the death of innocent life.
