Tonight on 360°, a look a small town in Montana that would welcome detainees from Gitmo. Yes, they want them. Right now it's a prison with no prisoners. City officials want to fill it with accused terrorists. We'll take you there.

Don't miss Erica Hill's webcast on the prison and tonight's other headlines during the commercials. Watch our WEBCAST

Anderson – Liz Cheney got the best of you. Why doesn't someone call her out on her lies ?

I respect Lynn Cheneys opinions But she's wrong I'm 22 and even I see that Her dad is probably the most hated VP in history Bush is among the most hated pres in history I think both cheney and bush should just go away They caused our country great damage time to go away

I disagree that AC did a good job with Cheney. Cheney framed the question as a choice between using "legal" methods to get info from terrorists, or let them "lawyer up" and thereby cause deaths of American citizens. That's not fact; it's her father's distortion of the facts, and Anderson didn't challenge her. The issue is whether the methods were legal and Constitutional - they were not, according to everyone but Bush administration lawers - and whether restricting interrogation to legal methods endangers our security - no one but the Bushies support this view. Why didn't AC challenge Cheney instead of allowing her to talk over him – – the usual Repub bullying tactics (verbally intimidating reporters and commentators).

Truly admazing in listening to Chenys Daughter try to put spin on everthing. Seems to me like shes just like her father. I wonder if you used those advanced tech. on them. Like Rumsfeld said lets see what they know.

Cheney wont be prosicuted now but tomorrow is another day.
It seems like a lot of people are running scared. They should
    send them all to jail.

With all the debate on torture in the news, has anyone thought about the fact that by the United States using torture it doesn't make us any better than the terroists.

Pres Obama must repair the US international image and closing Gitmo and doing away with so called enhanced interrogation techniques is a giant step in the right direction... as challenging as it is proving to be

OMG she is such a LIAR. I'm sorry, but she has learned well from her father.

Dick Chaney is still trying to defend something that is wrong and immoral. Much like he is. His daughter Liz should not be heard. Why have her on. She is as useless as he is.

You know what scares me is that we dont learn from Israel and their prisoners!
I wonder if the city or state that allows these terrorists in their backyward so to speak are setting themselves up!
Wont their brother terrorists plan on attacking the areas where the terrorists are inprisoned. Will these terrorist become martyrs??

There has been NO terrorist attach on USA soil since 9/11, so I have to give Cheney an A+ for today's speech. It opened my eyes !!!

I do not believe what I just heard from Liz Cheney. Everybody is wrong and unfair except her father. She actually stated that the Supreme Court was wrong in their decisions. Obvioulsy she is not dealing in reality and truth just like her father. We are suppose to just go along because the Cheney's said it, it is right. Who made them the know all end all. They got us into this mess.

  12. Daniel

Bunch of lies from a Cheney. Yet again. Even if Obama release the info they want released, nothing will come from it, and they will claim he didn't release it all. From what I have seen. All the actionable Intelligence came before the torture started.

If this torture worked, why didn't Cheney leak it like everything else that was leaked?

    May 21, 2009 at 10:27 pm |
  13. Andrew

Hmm, Anderson should have brought up the information from that Senate Hearing where an interrogator testified that traditional methods were more effective than those of the contractors preforming "enhanced" methods. Also, enhanced interrogation is torture, and Americans loathe torture. Too many smoke and mirrors.

Liuz Cheney is exactly like her father. Damn the facts, I will make up my own story lines. Cheney is uncouth.
@ David It's good to have a vigorous debate, but only when both debaters are honest and straight forward. Cheney is neither. And I mean both of them!

    Anderson
You are too polite, but you did get some jabs in and Cheney's daughter appeared to be upset with you and some of your questions and assertion that came from authorized source. So funny as she was trying to defend her father. I am like someone else on this forum, when did she get the clearance to know all this supposed information regarding torture and treatment of the detainees.

    helloo everyone 🙂
-on the whole issue of torture i agree with obama. I personally believe that torture doesnt do anything! Terrorists are the most cold blooded people who under go special training to handle such torture in case they need to. Does Cheney really believe a terrorist is going to scream everything he knows after being water bordered i dont think so! ... its call LYING(the terrorists lies so they can stop)!

Cheney is delusion. you know the saying about the webs we spin...I think he has spun so many that he can not recognize the truth. His daughter is trying to keep him from being prosecuted as a war criminal that he is. He is not dissenting or exercising his right to free speech...he needs to go away and do no more damage

I'm a little confused why we are talking with Liz Cheney about torture.. unless it's to torture us..

I'm trying not to be upset about her on (and talking down to AC) but she is not an expert on this subject..

and it would be nice to hear some other sides – sides that, say, don't just utter their opinion but have some real facts to talk about.

Can someone please debate Liz Cheney with facts? She's defending her father out of loyalty to him to save his tarnished image. You cannot prove a negative. To say that the techniques used prevented attacks can never be proven. Besides, it doesn't preclude alternative techniques that could also be used for the same result. How do we know non-torture methods wouldn't have also prevented an attack? They are using the scare techniques they used during the Bush years. And let's not forget 9/11 occurred on the Bush/Cheney watch. So much for keeping us safe.

It is a bit hypocritical for Cheney to come out at this point when his party lost the mandate in the last elections...he should realize he is not in power anymore, he is not in the Vice-President's chair anymore and he is just trying to justify what was done when it is becoming increasingly clear that some of the practices were clearly against the principles of this country and according to some of the folks who did the interrogations, those did not really prove productive in gathering intelligence. When you get the heat for yoru actions, of course you are going to vehemently try to defend your position...that is exactly what Cheney is doing now but it is a little late for that now, isnt it?

Its funny how Liz cheney doesn't have any facts to back up what she is saying. Why are you guys in the media giving these people anytime on tv. its sad.

Gee Liz Cheney fighting for a heroic cause; there's no link between Iraq and Osama. Your dad is nutts to believe that and torture to find a link to it. What's the real buy-in here? To get Scooter Libby out?

Anderson: What type of an interview was that with Ms. Cheny?
she said: The question you need to ask is this: .... and then she goes and answer the question and you are not actually rebutting her!!

Sorry, AC, this was not your best performance out there!!

President Bush kept everything classified while he was in office that is why we are in all this mess! Furthermore for us to use those methods to extract information from "terrorists" makes us in a sense terrorists. We can't keep using the excuse that we have to use these methods to protect American lives. Hello don't you think that's what other countries say too and yet we tell them how wrong that is. I think there are more American ways to obtain information from potential terrorists other than the forms of Torture that have been used. We are Americans and people in charge should start acting like it instead of acting like the enemy and saying its okay were doing it slightly different and only to protect Americans. There ARE better ways!

Well I must say daughter Cheney is an extremely well-spoken idealogue with a bent toward Fascism. Good lord, what a poisonous tongue on that young lady. Daddy's little girl, indeed.

  29. Rebecca Durr Moffett

Liz Cheney worried about Anderson Cooper conflating numbers? All she and her father do is conflate the truth illicit fear. Your tactics did not work on me right after 9/11 and they will not work now.

  30. Karen, Texas

Couldn't you have handled Cheney's daughter better and hit her with some harder questions? And why didn't you mention that anyone who criticized the former administration (Bush/Cheney) was called unpatriotic.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:26 pm |
  31. Patrice Palmer

Bush & Cheney are war criminals and should be prosecuted. Cheney is blustering about trying to save face and has thrown his own daughter into the ring. Why is his daughter on television, anyway? Was she an elected official who was a part of the decision-making process? She's saying "we," as if she was. Get her off center stage – she's only there to give Cheney more air time.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:26 pm |

You seemed to give the Cheney camp more airtime.

Dick Cheney lost his creditabilty when he leaked the identity of a CIA agent?

    May 21, 2009 at 10:25 pm |
  34. Cindy - Littleton, Co

I think President Obama should minimize Mr. Cheney by not engaging in the debate with him. He could thank him for his opinion, point out that they disagree and move forward. Maybe the Director of CIA and/or the National Security Advisor could go after Mr. Cheney on the facts instead.

I would just like to say that I have never been more disappointed in the American government than when the Bush Administration was in office. Our country's values is built on human rights and we need to stand up for them again. I think Dick Cheney needs to accept his failure and let the new administration deal with the problems that they were dealt.

The only argument Cheney seems to have is they kept us safe.

They seem to forget over 4,000 of our young men and women have died in Iraq in a war that never should have happened. Don't they count?

He is an egotistical sadist who just needs to go away.

Please Mr. Cheney. Go find something to do like count your Halliburton millions, hunt quail. Anything, just go away.

I'm amazed at how many people have bought Obama's hype. Liz Cheney told it like it really is. Obama has selectively released the info that supports his position. Where is the info we got from these interrogations. Either release nothing or release it all!

Great interview Anderson, You've just proved that Liz Cheney is as dilusional as her father. I like the way you pointed out the Schl. reports facts and she immediately claimed it to be a lie. Sound familiar.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:25 pm |
  43. Tony

Overall, the interview was good and hard hitting, but why do all journalists allow the Cheney's to get away with their statements when they say that Obama is going to allow detainees to lawyer up? He NEVER said he was going to do that!!! That is a GROSS mischaracterization of what Obama is allowing. They are WILLFULLY distorting Obama's positions and you are all allowing them to get away with it!!

Hearing Liz Cheney criticize Anderson for 'Rewriting history..." makes me want to vomit. She is obviously trying to cover her father's tyrannical butt.
If another country did to OUR soldiers what we did to the people in Gitmo, she and her father would be screaming bloody murder.
I am so tired of these types of people – the ones who act like everything that they do is golden, not matter how dispicable it is.
Liz Cheney is just another Republican head with no brain in it.

Does it really matter if the enhanced interrogation techniques helped gain important information or not?
Research has shown that if tortured enough, anybody would yield and give the interrogator the information that he/she wants.
America needs to stick to 'no torture' policy. Specially in testing situations.
