Tonight on 360°, a look a small town in Montana that would welcome detainees from Gitmo. Yes, they want them. Right now it's a prison with no prisoners. City officials want to fill it with accused terrorists. We'll take you there.

Don't miss Erica Hill's webcast on the prison and tonight's other headlines during the commercials. Watch our WEBCAST

When will Cheney and his band of republicans realize that they made a mess of things and that is why they lost the election. You lost guys, so just shut up and let somebody do their job and try to fix your screw-ups.

I do not blame Liz as much. She is Dick Cheney's daughter after all. She is being a good daughter.

I'm sorry, but who is liz cheney to be on major news show? i'd like to hear from someone who actually means something and i'm tired of her trying to grab attention just because her name is cheney.

Lynn C is like her father – attempting the adage: "best defense is a good offense." obama makes me proud. cheney makes me cringe.

Cheney and his daughter keep saying torture (enhanced interrogation) saved American lives. Says who other than them? Where is the proof???

How can Americans criticize Cuba for jailing people and not giving them trials when America has been doing the same thing on Cuban land, paying them $4 OOO a year.

    Anderson,

Why did you let Chaney's daughter push you around like she did this evening. She made you look "gun shy" and weak. You should have been harder on her.

If Cheney and his daughter feel so strongly about what he and the Bush administration have done with the detainees and the techniques used to interogate these people were so right, Cheney should run for president in 2012. Meanwhile, he should go fishing and see what damage he can cause to his fishing buddies with whatever fishing hooks he uses. If I was his buddies, I wouldn't be too close to him when he casts his hook...

Cheney is such a hypocrite! I read a book about what happened at Abu Ghraib. It was all standard operating procedure. The soldiers were SUPPOSED to treat the prisoners like that. It was an order! Abu Ghraib was NOT an isolated case of US soldiers gone wild. They follow orders and those orders come from high up.

I am dismayed that you are giving equal credence to the President of the United States and to a former vice-president, who has become far more vocal and visible than he was while he was in office.
Further, I am stunned that you have Cheyney's daughter on, defending her father! This is absurd!
Where is the solid analysis by objective contributors who can speak based on facts - not speakers who speak from a political perspective and go unchallenged.
Where are the hard questions and follow-up questions based on some research?

finally someone with the courage to actually ask republicans about their hypocrisy. of course they would have called a democrat a traitor if they were speaking out against a republican administration. republicans have no shame in this. they treat the constitution apart from the 2nd amendment like garbage.

President Obama's decision to raise the issue of torture publicly and to publicly forbid such places our military warriers in a precarious position. Is it not probable that Obama is initiating an older policy of "Take NO prisoners." Our courts should not be brought into a constitutional argument concerning our military a prisoners captured on the battle field. Which is worse, our President Bush policy or President Obama's upcoming policy of "Take NO prisoners."

Our greatest defense against any enemy is our values and principles, especially those whose population knows little freedom; to set such aside is to aid and abet the enemy.

Republicans always call Democrats – "unpatriotic", "anti-American", "Eurpean Lovers", etc when their ideologies and policies aren't followed. But when the shoe is on the other foot, Democrats and other Americans are asked to be unquestioning drones. The biggest double standard going.

Of course Cheney wants to "speak up" because he's right in line to be prosecuted for war crimes. Duh. The torturing that was done is against the law and the perpetrators should be prosecuted to the full extent - including Cheney. Let's talk about "National Security", Cheney... under whose administration were we when the memos warning of the U.S. regarding being attacked by terrorists by air-liners? I believe that was under Bush and Cheney's administration. Where was their due diligence and protection then? They are directly responsible for causing 1,000's of deaths on 9/11 by ignoring those memos, and then the ensuing farce of a war for their own personal gain. What a crock! I want to punch Cheney right in the face for being a liar, a thief and a criminal! Thank you. Joan Grandizio

Maybe the Cheneys did not get the memo the Republicans Lost. I believe President Obama is better equipped at keeping us safe. I can't believe Dick & Liz Cheney are defending the very same techniques that were used by the Nazis.. They are terrified that they are going to be brought up on charges of War Crimes. I wish they would just go away and stay away.

I am sicken that Cheney, who holds no public office and who without question has broken the law speech is being compared to the President of the United States of America. Cheney is beyond contempt and the only leverage he has is the one the media is giving him. I find the way this hold thing is being handled is an insult to our President. And I don't for one moment believe the media would do the same with any other president.

Liz Cheney sounds as desperate as her dad – just trying to stay in the spotlight as long as they can – they both need to go away.

It is clear to me that Cheney is simply trying to defend a failed 8 years and continue to try and instill unecessary fear in the US public by intimating that national security is in danger!!!! New admin, move on, its time to try a different type of politics...one where it is potentially good to talk and seek positive relationships!!!

Cheney/Bush created many more terrorists around the world that hate us– far more than the pitiful few in Gitmo.
Cheney/Bush endangered us and that endangerment will continue throughout our lifetimes.

We've got to remember, President Bush didn't pick Cheney to be Vice President. Cheney was on Bush's team to pick a VP position and he nominated himself. He strong armed President Bush just like he is trying to strong arm President Obama.

Maybe if Cheney wasn't VP during the last 8 years, things would've been a little better.

It is clear that Ms Cheney does not know what she is talking about. Much of what Mr. Cheney said in his speech was said to be WRONG by individuals who were present and testified before Congress days ago. Those statements that clearly are not true should be Challenged and not allowed to be taken as factual.

Cheney is trying to rewrite history and his arguments continue to be based on fear mongering. Most military and intelligence officials agree that torture (enhanced interrogation as Cheney likes to call it) does not yield good information. To hear his daughter defending him is sad. Dick Cheney is out to protect his interests and not those of the American people. He who doth protest too strongly... There's something wrong with this picture and most of the the American people see Dick Cheney for what he is.

I was born in a country that tortured its citizens, and I am now a proud American citizen, but I am dismayed at the realization that my new country, with its long standing tradition of human rights, and with thinkers like Jefferson and Franklin, once tortured people.
It is something that can not be changed; it is a blemish that will live forever.
But we can stop now and declare proudly:NEVER AGAIN!

Why are we so concerned about us pouring a little water on some terrorist's face when these terrorists have beheaded and murdered our citizens and troops? Come on Americans wake up!

Both Cheney and his daughter make no sense to me. Liz Cheney stated that President Obama is changing our national policies on torture that will prevent future president's from changing policy on torture. How can that be?

    May 21, 2009 at 10:22 pm |
  36. Claudia

oh and one more thing....Dick's daughter is a chip off the old block. She is talking down to Anderson. She is rude and borish.

  37. Mackenzie

    Anderson-

Watching Liz Cheney say what she did I can say two things. 1. What you said about the Schlesinger Report is totally accurate. My uncle was re-deployed back to Iraq with some of the military police that were present at Abu Ghraib. 2. Liz Cheney is a great woman, who has a great family, as much as I have disagreed morally with her fathers policies. She is a parent at the school I went to in McLean for years, and I think they she is allowed to speak freely, as is Dick Cheney, about what he believes, but they need to get the same facts, and they need to get them right.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:22 pm |
  38. Carol

Dick Cheney and his daughter are totally out of line and out of touch with reality. Both are trying to rewrite history while we are living the facts. I believe that both have crossed the line of treasonous acts in this difficult time of our country and are not offering anything of value and positive. Dick Cheney should shut up and sit down.

Cheney conveniently overlooks that he helped LIE America into invading Iraq which definitely did more to harm America not only in secutity but also economically and in international reputation.

    @Laurie..I totally agree with you.

You are doing good interviewing Liz Cheney here, Anderson.

  44. Dulcie - Denver

Anderson is doing a great job with Liz Cheney. He's being very firm and asking hard questions and yet remaining polite.

Liz Cheney seems to be talking out of the both sides of her mouth. She can't possibly know what happened in our foreign prisons.

I have extreme doubt that any actual attacks were prevented. The Cheney's really are disturbing.

Dick Chaney has had 7 years experience dealing with terrorism... Obama has had 120 days!!!!!!!! Vice President Chaney is much more well versed about the situation...

Why do people not ask Dick Cheney " Under whose watch did 911 happen?"
If the formet administration was so competent, why did 9/11 happen at all?

    May 21, 2009 at 10:20 pm |
  48. Sam

Liz Cheney accuses Anderson of rewriting history – what a joke.
The people attempting to rewrite history are Dick amd Liz Cheney.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:20 pm |
  49. Regina, Pennsylvania

Cheney's road tour is nothing more than an attempt to reguritate his version of reality. Shame on him for trying to insult President Obama's ability to keep America safe! On whose watch did 9/11 occur! Bush and Cheney did not keep America safe. This reminds me of the lead-up to the war–trying to frighten people so they accept a forfeiture of our rights and the Constitution. Since when did Cheney's daughter become an expert in interpreting all of her father's policies and practices. Anyone who criticized the Bush/Cheney administration was considered unpatriotic by their standards. Hm!
