Tonight on 360°, a look a small town in Montana that would welcome detainees from Gitmo. Yes, they want them. Right now it's a prison with no prisoners. City officials want to fill it with accused terrorists. We'll take you there.

Don't miss Erica Hill's webcast on the prison and tonight's other headlines during the commercials. Watch our WEBCAST

Ex-Vice President Cheney apparently cannot face the indisputable fact that in all spheres of power - political, economic, and military - the United States lost ground in the world during the two terms of the Bush 43 administration. Put bluntly, we are weaker as a people because of Bush and Cheney. The American people therefore voted to elect President Obama to move the country in a different direction - Vice President Cheney needs to acknowledge that and move on, as well.

Way to go against Liz Cheney tonight, Anderson. You are shining! Keep 'em HONEST!

You're doing a great interview Anderson. Liz Cheney complete disregards the facts.

Love ya.....OMG she is just as bad as her father...living in a dream world -called-torture is ok. I think we should torture them and see how they like it. I've always believed that our county was one of the few that didn't do this terrible deed. Shame on us...since I am an american, I have the right to say this.. They... just don't get it.......

@Laurie, Why not put Obama down; he's ignored all tradition by repeatedly attacking Bush. Time for him to stop blaming others. That's NOT leadership.

She is an idiot Anderson. The republican party is rewriting history. Don't let her get away with this crap.

What's Bush doing? Seems that everyone was right... Cheney was the one running the show all these years. And he doesnt like it when anyone disagrees with him. i agree completely with Obama. No torture. We are not the Nazis.

Anderson, please don't let her off so easily. She is interupting constantly and not answering your question.

    This whole controversy is silly.
President Obama is doing the same thing that Bush and Cheney did.
Obama is acting funny and the media lets him get away with it.
Obama wants to close Gitmo, but he doesnt, but since he said he wants to close it he gets credit even though he wont?
I am confused seriously. And I voted for Obama, so its not like i am against him. Its just that Obama lied about so many things from guns to gays to Gitmo!
Obama lies and the media never holds Obama to his word.

Hope that after letting one of Cheney's surrogate, you will allow the WH to come and explain the President's position. Why do you invite people who have so little credibilty? She seems to be quite knowledgeable about the memos that were not shredded.

If it's so important that the documents should be released, why didn't the previous administration release it. The were incredibly secretive and NOW are asking for the release of the documents.

@ Anderson: Would you please explain to the audience WHY Lynne Cheney is an expert in this subject? What is her background and experience? Has she been privy to classified information?

    May 21, 2009 at 10:19 pm |
  14. charles

exactly what kind of security clearance does liz cheney have that she is an authority on the goings on of her dad's former office?

    May 21, 2009 at 10:19 pm |
  15. Dennisv21

Anderson, outstanding job in interviewing Liz Cheney. I feel sorry for her. She is so much like her dad and that's sad.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:19 pm |
  16. Calvin McKinnon

Ohhhhh...... Shes here to support her dad, Ask her if she thinks that terrorisum happened 100 years ago in america, or 50 years ago. Your father should be in jail. And all his friends. terrorisum has happened to us for henders of years!!! Does she think its was terrorisum then? Shell say anything to help her father.!!! He was wrong and so is she!!!!!

She worked in the administration during those eight years. If she didn't then I would agree.

Bush and Cheney were a national disaster. They are done. Now go away.

  19. Anthonia-califonia

Cheney is probably just scared that republicans arent taking over the economy anymore, and its the democrats that are running the country.

Cheney's daughter needs to get her facts straight and lies 🙂

    May 21, 2009 at 10:19 pm |
  20. Sean B

Dick Cheney has every right to express his opinion, but the worst attack on American soil took place on his watch. He's in no position to criticize Obama on national security.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:19 pm |
  21. Melissa

What are Liz cheney's full qualifications at the state Dept and elsewhere to be discussing the former administration's positions? If anything this former VP and family road show is what is potentially weakening our position in the eyes of our "enemies".

    May 21, 2009 at 10:19 pm |
  22. jeremy

please tell mr cheney his Term is up and ended so his views and comments from him and his daughter are not helping us move forward he left this country in a mess and he has no business speaking now

    May 21, 2009 at 10:19 pm |
  23. Lori from IL

Go Anderson, ask the tough questions - Cheney's daughter is as delusional as he is.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:19 pm |
  24. Michelle

Based on Liz's argument that her father should be so outspoken, it seems fair to suggest if Clinton and Gore had forgone the niceties and had been as immediately outspoken about the Osama Bin Laden threat that Cheney and Bush ignored then maybe America would have been safe for 8 years instead of 7-1/2. 3,000 people died on their watch – they did not keep up safe. You can't stop the clock on 9/12

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  25. gail

Cheney is a traitor and should shut up. Liz Cheney is lying. Tjhe Republicans would be screaming bloody murder and did at anyone that stood up to question them after 9/11. Dick Cheney nor his family has any couth and for him to send is daughter out there to shill for him shows what kind of character or lack of character he has. If he was concerned about the country and not his own hide he would have approached the President in a manner that was dignified and be fitted the office that he once held , but he defiled that so what do we expect.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  26. Joe Terrogano

How does Cheney's daughter know all of this? Was she part of security briefings or investigations? What exactly does she bring to this debate other than Daddy? Please, go home lady.

Cheney and his daughter protest too much.Ground hog should go back to his hole.Who cares what they think.Put him in jail.

She is as crazy as her father...and Anderson Cooper, you are my new hero...I've heard her for the past couple of weeks, dishing her garbage & bullying the other interviewers of other networks...You Mr. Cooper are doing the BEST JOB EVER!!!

  29. jacqueline, ny

She accused Anderson of rewriting history. Just exactly what does she think her father and Bush were doing for 8 years. They did so why can't Anderson? LOL!

Great the way you press, Anderson!

That is what many of us would like to do

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  31. Patty from Pennsylvania

why is Lynn Cheney relevant or an expert on this subject??? It seems to me that she is defending her dad who is spending a great deal of time trying to justify torture.

Good for you Anderson...don't let her get away with distorting the truth!

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  32. Mike, Syracuse, NY

Liz Cheney is right Anderson, Abu Grab was a crime, and totally unauthorized. It was a bunch of poorly trained and supervised people acting on their own, not policy. You KNOW that.

  33. Patrecia

Why are we giving an audience to DICK Cheney or his daughter? They are part of a horrible past and dangerous present that he and President Bush created! Instead of giving them a platform we should be taking steps to impeach and bring them to justice!

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  34. Melinda

Maybe Cheney is afraid of two things: 1) Not having a bunker to hide in when he becomes paranoid and 2) going to jail – because it just might happen!
I just can't believe how his all -of a sudden- being on T.V. could help the Republican party.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  35. Dan Stewart

Dick Cheney is the embodiment of all that has been wrong with America for the last 8 years. His willingness to sell out American values to fulfill his dark and twisted world view is a disgrace to his office and a disgrace to his country. This evil individual and his twisted henchmen need to be tried in a court of law and answer for what they have done.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  36. Dave R

Cheyney's opinion is very unnerving. The theme seems to be that only by invalidating the constitution, and very values that define us, can we protect ourselves. It’s a slippery slope, it’s morally wrong and, most importantly, it reflects a lack of faith in our military and law enforcement. It reflects a fear and panic.

Let’s stop calling it “enhanced interrogation”, call it what it is: Torture.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  37. Fay - California

Anderson is doing an EXCELLENT job of pointing out FACTS – something Liz and Dick Cheney are not familiar with.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  38. Paul

Anderson, Would someone remind Cheney that 9.1.1 happened under their watch (Bush-Cheney Administration)? Safer–no–there was intelligence they did not take serious. He is out of touch and out of power. He is irrelevant!

    May 21, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  39. Lin

Elizabeth Cheney is the daughter few knew Cheney had in the 8 years he was VP. What is she now doing defending the Bush administration – in particular her father – on national television? What are her credentials? Is she an expert on terrorism? Was she Cheney's confidante? Get her off the air!!!

"No future President will be able to use these" tools in the future..

Isn't that the point? Bush/Cheney Admin. have been found to have authorized "illegal" methods during their term in office. They clearly broke the rules of the Geneva Convention!

Their behavior and attitude lent itself to the attitude of our soldiers that cause great harm i.e. Abu Garab.

Torture doesn't give reliable information; it puts American prisoners of war in danger; it adds to terrorist groups; it shows we're scared to death, so scared we lose our reputation as courageous and humane people.

I wish he would have paid attention to the memos on August 6, 2001....

When did Liz Cheney get security clearance to know all this information?

    May 21, 2009 at 10:17 pm |
  44. Debbie from Arvada, CO

Since when is it right and good for the country already feeling a lot of tensions for a former VP to attack the President every day sometimes several times a day, sounding like he is trying to undermind our President instead of support him – not blind support, but support none the less.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:17 pm |
  45. Kristen - University Park, PA

Anderson great interview with Dick Cheney's daughter.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:16 pm |
  46. John

why do you continue to give the Cheney's a platform to spread their misinformation?

Fact: Worst terrorist attack in the country happened under Bush/Cheney.
Fact: More Americans died due to terrorism under Bush/Cheney.
Fact: Bush/Cheney lied about the fact that they were torturing people.

How is it that these people have any credibility with the media? How many times does someone have to be wrong before the media stops giving them a platform to spew their lies?

  48. Andrea, TN

I know Liz Cheney seems like a good "get", close to the issue...but I would have rather had a less biased voice talk about this. We already heard the Cheney talking points today. Of course she'll just agree with her father, that's what daughters do. Though I am liking Anderson trying to keep the facts straight.

    May 21, 2009 at 10:16 pm |

Its sad to watch Ex VP Cheney – like a retired diva, wandering back onstage, stumbling over barely remembered lines, rehashing an old role she is no longer suited for, no longer wanted, merely tolerated. When will someone with heart lead him away and spare him the embarassment of being booed off?

    May 21, 2009 at 10:16 pm |

Liz Cheney and her dad are covering their collective butts. They DO NOT CARE about America or they would never have flushed our constitution and values down the toilet. SHAME ON THE CHENEYS!
