In regards to your news about violence in Chicago's schools, I refer you to a book by Dr. John Ratey, SPARK, about the relation of exercise and brain health, in which he reports on a ground breaking Physical Education program in Naperville Central High School just west of Chicago. Violence and drop-outs were tremendously reduced when P.E. was instituted for the whole student body. Surely that could be replicated in Chicago.
As a former resident and pastor in the New Orleans Methodist Inner-City Parish, Lower Ninth Ward, By-Water area, and the French Quarter, I remain concerned with the problems of urban areas, though I am now retired in a small town in Mississippi.
