Tonight on 360°, who's lying? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the most powerful woman in Washington, or the head of the CIA? At issue, who knew what and when about terror interrogations. We're keeping them honest.

It seems that transparency is only to be used by one side of the political aisle shinning its light on the other but never upon itself. Seems that Nancy P. doesn't want to be in the spoltlight.

I'd like to know the Speaker is a lier or not. That to me is more important than the waterboarding.

Who gains from the spotlight shifting to Nancy Pelosi on the torture issue? Former President Bush and Former Vice President Dick Cheney. This whole debate should not even be going on about who knew what when because being bound by law Nancy Pelosi could not have spoken about the briefings anyway. Let's bring it back to the real point, President Bush and Vice President Cheney knowingly and blatantly broke the law by authorizing torture. That is the first, second and last point. Period. That is the issue, not Nancy Pelosi, who was not speaker of the house nor did she have the power to stop an authorization that had already gone forward.

This sounds like a bunch of distraction and noise. I'm sure Nancy may not remember when exactly she was told or heard of waterboarding etc., But when was it we all heard about it. WE ALL KNEW The BUSH ADMIN were Torturing prisoners. My question is why was Bush voted into office again, once the American People knew. How could we put that monster back into office, should we all be prosecuted or should we concentrate on the monsters that drew up the laws and forced our protectors to commit crimes against humanity?

I dont think that the CIA will admit to lying...why would they? they are the CIA. Admitting to lying would discredit them.

but yeah–somebody is lying. Someone ALWAYS does.

does anyone remember that the CIA lied to all of us about what evidence they had for WMD's. why is everyone in the media so shocked that they might be lying again??? If there was some investigative journalism going on we might actually get at the truth

  13. Fred

DAVID – Pelosi cannot be telling the truth because that would require several versions of her story to be simultaneously true. That is impossible. More importantly, David, why don't you grow a pair and take a stand on this? We do not want these questions to remain unanswered, no matter how inconvenient for Ms. Pelosi and her posse. It's very disappointing to hear you say that the whole affair will merely disappear without anyone be held to account. Please rethink your position.

    OK-Honesty and professionalism–Gergen
CIA gave us WMDs and got rid of torture tapes
    Graham details everything
Those CIA notes do not have Pelosi's signature saying that she agrees with the notes of the meeting taken so in a court of law those notes are not valid–in the future congress and the cia should make that a requirement of all meeting notes
then we won't have he said and she said

Is it possible that neither Speaker Pelosi nor the CIA are "lieing"? I have been in many corporate meetings where people on one side the table thought they heard something completely different than people on the other side of the table.
Because this happens so often in meetings usually minutes are published afterwards that can be reviewed.

Evening Anderson, Erica, everyone. All right it's Friday...I like the beginning of the week better.

Give me a good weekend sometime.

David Gergen with Madam Speaker and the CIA director at "sword's point" as you say it does seem like we're getting bogged down.

The tit for tat between Pelosi and Panetta...I don't know...release the photos that the ACLU wants and the memos that Cheney wants.

Pelosi must come clean and jog her message and memory. She how has put the integrity of the agency at risk. This involves agents and real lives. I smell another Valerie Phame scandal.

Thanks to the 360 team for investigating this. One of the guests on Campbell's show earlier (not sure who it was) stated that we'll never know what went on in that briefing room because in order to find out we'd have to prosecute people in both parties, and I was infuriated. Evidently the best way to break the law is to register with one major party and make sure your accomplice is registered with the other, both of you run for office and win–because God forbid we investigate people in both parties. Scary thought, that in order for their to be any kind of accountability in Washington–as you said, Anderson–it has to be in someone's political interest.

  21. david

WOW!!!! Come on Anderson. You are letting that guy call for a cover up. Pelosi calls for a truth committee and when she gets caught lying your guest says lets just let it all go.

Why would we be surprised is the CIA is not telling the truth - so much of what they do will never be known to the general public - they can always hide under the "national security" claim.

    May 15, 2009 at 10:10 pm |
  23. Marian

Why can't 360 get a live interview with Speaker Pelosi and someone from the CIA with notes concerning those meetings and then try to get to the truth?. 360 is probably the best format for this as, in my opinion, is the least biased show out there. This would be so much better than using a panel who really have no idea what really happened and are in a guessing game only. Pelosi has asked for an investigation and that should be fairly telling.

The whole thing about Pelosi is to take away the spotlight on the torture that was authorized and administered by the Bush Administration.

It astounds me that the media falls for the Republican hysterics every time.

I think Nancy Pelosi is being disingenious at best – but more than likely has started an avalanche – that should prove fatal to her. As a news story – don't let this outright lie – by one or the other – go. We need to change Washington. Sort out the truth. David Gergin said there is no straight path to the truth – BUT there should be

    Good evening everyone!

I've had a hellish week and I don't think I care who lied and who told the truth. It's water under the bridge. It was an ugly chapter in our history and it probably won't be the last. Let's move on. I don't see what it accomplishes to go on this witch hunt.

Stop the sexist lynch mob attack on Pelosi–Se. Graham supports her side
Anderson did you say that Bush lied when he said US does not torture

David Gergan is so wrong. She has nothing to hide. He is assuming she is guilty.

I think Pelosi should lose her seat. She is either lying or stupid. Meaning she either knew or did not understand what she was told and does not want to admit to being ignorant now.

    May 15, 2009 at 10:07 pm |
  33. gail

You reporters are missing the point. The point is not that someone is lying, but that the President of the United States George W. Bush and Vice President Cheney authorized torture. Nancy Pelosi is not the issue at all and the distration that reporters are allowing to take hold is just appalling. Last time I checked didn't we get the information on yellow cake from the CIA. @ Anderson, I think for you to question Nancy Pelosi's truthfulness and not that of the former President and Vice President disturbing as well. Nancy Pelosi is not a liar. I will take her word ove rthe political appointees of President Bush anyday.

Hi everyone, Pelosi must come clean. What makes me suspicious is that if Pelosi suspected something fishy about the testimony, why raise it up just now?

    May 15, 2009 at 10:06 pm |
  35. Casey Jones, Palm Springs, CA

I believe one of two things. A) Pelosi doesn't remember accurately (as I understand they can't take notes, etc.) or B) The CIA's records are incorrect which has already been pointed by other representatives to as quite likely.

The easiest way to explain any of it is to simply say, there are only written documents on one side of the briefing, so there was simply no "meeting of the minds." No one who was briefed would have no way of following-up because they have no documentation.

This is a sexist old boy network lynch mob attack against the first female speaker of the house. thank goness that Senator Graham with his notebooks hold the truth ,support Pelosi version
Mr. Panetta did the CIA say we have WMDs in Iraq but none of the neocons are being dragged in the media
