the problem with restraining orders is enforcing them.

they violate them, you must call the cops hoping they get there in time to catch the stalker violating the restraining order.

I own a retail store in an upstate NY small town. Although '08 sales were down 10% compared to '07, my sales for the past 6 weeks have been up 25% over the prior year. I'm sensing a turnaround in consumer confidence. No question.

    Hello,
I and thousands of other New Yorkers will reach the end of our extended unemployment benefits for New York on May 17, 2009.

There has been no talk about possible extensions or changing the New York State unemployment insurance laws. What is the problem here. Not only does New York have one of the lowest benefit rates in one of the most expensive cities but our current laws are keeping us from receiving this extension which has gone through in many other states.,

Many of us who can't find jobs will be in a lot of trouble if something is not done. Why is no one talking about this?

    Thanks for your time.

Violence against women occurs in two different spaces: at home and on the street, it being understood there the place of work, study, recreation, etc.

Hello everyone - we may look back upon the economic news this week - the job numbers today, the bank stress tests yesterday - and say that this was a major turning point, moving us in a more positive direction. Sure hope so. And the President as well as the Federal Reserve under Ben Benanke will deserve a lot of the credit if indeed it is a turning point. Stay tuned!

My cousin works for the Census year round, every year – they are always looking for people to hire (many are only part-time jobs – but at least some income).

RE: Shooting of Johanna, really, really sad, she was beeutiful and apparently had past problems with him.

I was a victim of stalking. My spouse tried to murder me for a year. The police & my attorney both told me there was nothing they could do as spousal abuse was a misdemeanor. They told me that they could only take action when i was dead! (& i had a 3 year old who was also threatened!

That was in the 70's, thank God some laws have changed & there are places to go for help and hide out.

The stalker is another one of those 'quiet ones'. its hard to decide who you want to be afraid of now, the quiet ones or the loud ones

It;'s so hard to know what employers want .The qestions they ask in interviews are psychological questions based on senoerios that have nothing to do with what the job entails .i never know how to answer them.

Violence against women is a broad term, including various forms of assault on body integrity, psychological and sexual.

@Miss J–oh it's terrible. But just cause some survey says unemployment for whites is only 8%, that doesn't put money in the bank for us white ladies who need a job.

So statistics don't mean much to me. They just say life is hard and even more hard for certain groups. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all just agree that life has gotten very hard for many and we all have to figure out a way to reinvent the economy.

Stalking, inappropriate "love", guys who just fixate on someone, usually a woman, and turn it into a mission to kill the object of their deadly affections. It's just impossible to stop. But the Restraining Order method doesn't work most of the time. We need something else.

I hope Morgan stays in prison for a long, long time. This story is just disgusting. I've had 4 stalkers in my short lifetime, and it's a very, very scary thing and most people who have the authority to do anything about it, don't, won't or can't.

I think Ali was saying that it's impossible to ignore that the unemployment rate for blacks is 15%. Which is true... that's seems like a pretty high unemployment rate to me.

    May 8, 2009 at 10:12 pm |
  41. Caroline, Los Angeles

@Rikki-excellent point and I ignore those statistics about which group has higher unemployment. There are SO many other factors besides race and education when you are a job seeker. Those stats are irrelevant to me.

There are people out here with MA degrees who can't find full-time work in their careers or any sideways career. Heck, I read about one with an MA who is homeless out here in L.A. It's terrible!

Obama still talking in grand terms, has yet to deliver on those 3 million jobs he said would be created. Somebody needs to start doing a fact check on how much grandiosity fuels this guy and what the reality is for the American public. Fawning over Obama is not going to do anyone any good.

Happy Mother’s Day Erica and all 360 Mom.

Met up with friends today. Heard another unemployment whoa – no job, home forclosure, family living off credit cards. Yes, it is horrible out there. Praying Ali and Mr. Gergen is right. Let's hope things are getting better.

Anderson, fan of the subtle no nonsense straightforward news approach of late. Looking forward to another great show tonight.

Weekend best everyone. Let's get employed!!! : )
