Joe The Plumber: I Would Never Let "Queers" Near My Children

Joe the Plumber, aka Samuel Wurzelbacher, sat down for an lengthy interview with Christianity Today to discuss his views on the future of the Republican party. Wurzelbacher took the opportunity to speak out against gay marriage, which he says is wrong. The unlikely conservative spokesman went so far as to say he doesn't allow openly gay people "anywhere near" his children.
The word "queer," Wurzelbacher noted, "means strange and unusual."
Christianity Today: In the last month, same-sex marriage has become legal in Iowa and Vermont. What do you think about same-sex marriage at a state level?
Wurzelbacher: At a state level, it's up to them. I don't want it to be a federal thing. I personally still think it's wrong. People don't understand the dictionary–it's called queer. Queer means strange and unusual. It's not like a slur, like you would call a white person a honky or something like that. You know, God is pretty explicit in what we're supposed to do–what man and woman are for. Now, at the same time, we're supposed to love everybody and accept people, and preach against the sins. I've had some friends that are actually homosexual. And, I mean, they know where I stand, and they know that I wouldn't have them anywhere near my children. But at the same time, they're people, and they're going to do their thing.
In the vein of George W. Bush and Michael Steele, Joe the Plumber also indicated that he wouldn't run for public office until the Lord had given him a cue. "God hasn't said, 'Joe, I want you to run.' I feel more important to just encourage people to get involved, one way or another. If I can inspire some leaders, that would be great." Joe added: "I don't know if I want to be a leader."

Joe says "I've had some friends...wouldn't have them anywhere near my children...at the same time, they're people". This again explains why racism and discrimination survive generations. We need to try more empathy, less fear. A little open-mindedness wouldn't hurt either.
Why is mainstream media still giving this man who represents no one but bigots continued national attention? He is a laughing stock but very poor representation of the USA. I'm embarrassed by him.

I think that just because some people are confused or make the wrong decision with how the human race is supposed to Procreate not eradicate we as people should not have to tolerate it. But we should be able to have our say as we do.

The other day, I saw a woman at the store buying tampons. She obviously was having her menstruation cycle.... I waited for her to go outside and I stoned her to death for appearing in public during her monthly cycle.

What a winner this guy is. He is the poster boy of the conservative of yesterday and, in my opinion, the reason that Republicans are losing steam. I think that if the Republicans and religious conservatives want to appeal to a broader audience they should really consider toning down the derogatory terms. His whole "queer" statement is not just offensive to gay people but to a nation that wants to command the respect of a world that is opening its mind much faster than we are.

The word "queer" does indeed mean 'strange and unusual.' But homosexuals did not choose that word as a label for themselves. This is a word that was used by homophobes like "Joe the Plumber" to describe gays because they thought homosexuality was "strange and unusual." I feel sorry for his children, who will be forced to grow up in a household where they might have to repress themselves because they don't know if they'll be kicked out when their father finds out their lifestyle isn't what he wanted.
Everyone else is right. Joe the Plumber was never relevant. He was a ploy used by the McCain campaign to try to appeal to "ordinary" people, and we see how that worked out for them, didn't we?

Joe the Plumber (who isn't really a plumber, and his name isn't really Joe, etc.) is an idiot. He was used, manipulated, and exploited by the McCain/Palin camp – all the while smiling like the idiot he is, and thinking they actually gave a damn about him or his opinions. Then, the more his complete lack of anything resembling independent thought became clear – they dropped him like the hot potato he was.
He's so ignorant he doesn't even know that he was used, or that he makes a complete fool of himself every time he opens his mouth, or that the whole nation (and a lot of folks around the world) are laughing at him (NOT with him).
So why are we still talking about him? Why does the media care what he has to say now?

I guess then he should know that it's a sin to eatshell fish. that it's ok to sell your children into slavery. wearing clothing of two different types of threads such as polyester/cotton polos is a sin. if he worked on sundays, he showed be stoned to death. if his wife spoke in public she too should be martyred. but I guess he knew all that already and is aware of the unconditional love that his Jesus preached about.

I could not believe my eyes for a moment. I thought the headline read, "I would never let beers near my children. " Um, had to read that one twice from Joe the Dumber, oops plumber.
DISGUSTING !!! EVERY SINGLE PERSON on this planet deserves to be treated with respect and dignity. "Joe the Plumber" says Queer is not a slur, perhaps when it was first used in the English language is was not but he cannot possibly believe it's not a slur in this day and age, does he live in a cave? He won't let gay people around his children – he needs to check his statistics – MOST pedophiles, child molesters, and other such predators are straight NOT gay.
I am a heterosexual white woman – certainly NOT a minority. It very much saddens me when people cannot open their minds even just a little bit in order to accept people for who they are and for being people instead of putting a label on them. Very very sad.
