Tonight on 360°, bullied to death. A child taunted at school takes his own life. Who's to blame?
And could the school have stopped the teasing? Carl Joseph Walker Hoover’s mom says kids taunted him saying "you act gay" and "you look gay." Today thousands of students across America participated in a Day of Silence to draw attention to anti-gay harassment in schools. We’ll have all the angles.
And, don't miss Erica Hill's webcast on bullying and tonight's other headlines during the commercials. Watch our WEBCAST

Here are some of them:
1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

Good Night Guys!! I love you!!
The Twitter race was fun. Glad to know a charity will benefit from it.
Goodnight all. Great show team.
Great show Andy! Have a great weekend! I know I will! 🙂
My heart goes out the family of the 11 year old boy who hung himself last week. I am wondering how a parent can approach an young child in similar circumstances to prevent such a tragedy. It is clear that the mother of this child is an intelligent involved parent who did a good job and had an active roll in reaing her children. That is perhaps what scares me the most–truly horrifying.
I am also wondering what legislation we can pass so there is Zero tolerance for bullying, racial epithets, gender/sexual bigotries, etc... in school systems and other public places our taxes pay for. We send our children to school to learn and flourish.
a concerned new father
Isabel, yes it does take maturity and responsibility to deal with that much passion. That's a wonderful point to make.
Thats a wild shot from the AC360 archive
Good night Isabel, good night everyone. Great weekend all.
Have a good weekend everyone!
Goodnight everyone, have a good weekend.
It has been a pleasure to be here with you.
Today the show went without I feel, I wanted more!
Good night and a great weekend!
I signed up for twitter last night and signed up to follow CNN. Im still trying to figure Twitter out! Have a good night everyone.
I believe this is a shame. Unfortunately, many parents and educators are apathaetic to bulling as witnessed by their ability to rationalize kids being kids. Between Text's, IM's, and Verbally abusive kids good kids who are raised in a wholsome environment to care for others and who enjoy scouts, musicals and art don't stand a chance. Unfortunately, I worry that it is even worse when the class size is small as it is easier to be odd man out.
Anderson, your guest I think makes a key point about religious leaders who devalue homosexuality. Parents are responsible for teaching their children right from wrong, but it is religion that tends to shape the viewpoints of its followers (the parents). Like discouraging birth control, most relevant in overpopulated countries, these religions are not serving humanity but are harming humanity and need to put their traditions and prejudices aside enough to be more responsible and realistic.
Good nite all
Susan Boyle is an inspiration. Never judge anyone by the way they present. She is awesome.
Have a good weekend, everyone. Hey, CNN you got me, smile!
Twitter rules! Good night Anderson! Erica!
Good job opening the champagne... and CNN was most gracious... I hardly recognized Anderson amidst all the dancers in the video...
Have a great weekend, everyone! See you guys on Monday.
Schools should take bullying more seriously and provide professional help for children that find themselves being bullied. (and hopefully for the bullies as well) Bullies usually only pick on people if they think they can get away with it. Bullying is a difficult situation that requires far more attention.
Loves you all! G'night!
Ahhh the Twitter Battle! It was great...I missed the million twitter mark as I was asleep but I bet it was amazing! Jack Gray is awesome...a lot of deserved credit there! 🙂
Good night Anderson, Erica and fellow bloggers! Have a great weekend! Chat with you all on Monday! 🙂
I love the party video! remember that from Anderson's 40th bday. haha
Goodnight Anderson, Erica and everyone at AC360!
Great show tonight.
Jack got a marriage proposal through Twitter?? I didn't know that. So did he accept?
it does not matter how many people follow Ashton, what he can "say" anyway? 🙂
Goodnight everyone. Have a wonderful weekend. Jack Gray, hope you really enjoy your sister's stay. Erica and Anderson, thanks so much. Oh,saw Jack's marriage proposal. Too cool! And the dancing video is great. Please keep it!!
Although in this bullying case it maybe was about being or not being gay, bullies pick on anything: too fat, to short, too stupid, etc. This isn't a 'gay' thing. The solution is to stand up for yourself. It's a lesson in life. No one stands up for you if you don't stand up for yourself.
Goodnight, everyone! Have a great weekend (and thanks for the Floor Crew Flashback)!!!
You guys need to tape a new dancing segment.
see if it was getting a million anderson cooper followers it would have won. Kutcher won because he went and got p-diddy and pretty cheerleaders. We had hot Anderson and Larry King, Wolf Blitzer. Well yeah.
Our hotties are Anderson and Erica. Sorry loves but CNN should have won
i loved the whole twitter competition!
Oh, and get this, my mothers says she never had labor pains with two of us. I was one of the kind and gentle one. 🙂
I tried guys. Oh well. I think I have a Twitter acct now. Have a great week-end!
Hello everyone,
My sympathy to Carl's mother. Horrible story. My son is 18 years old now, and 6 years ago we had been thru the same thing what Carl had been thru. It took place in one of the school at South of Boston. Kids could not stopped bulling my son – wrong socks, wrong coat, etc, he was A's student, and they did not like it – he was nerd, gay, you name it.... I spoke to the principal of his middle school, and the answer was: WE HAVE NO AUTHORITY OVER OUR STUDENTS. I was in shock...The 'torture' was continuing until I transferred him to the other school. I think the school has to be more involved and parents have to be more responsible for their children's behavior.
P.S. Currently my son is a senior at the boarding school. If the student's behavior does not fit within a school's code, the student is out of that school. I think the school's code for the public (charter) school needs to be more strict.
