Photos of the new first dog

He's finally here! The first dog has arrived. U.S. President Barack Obama, first lady Michelle and their daughters, Malia and Sasha introduce their new dog, a Portuguese water dog named Bo, to the White House press corps at the South Lawn of the White House April 14, 2009 in Washington, DC. The six-month-old puppy is a gift from Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) who owns several Portuguese water dogs himself. This breed of dog is considered a good pet for children who have allergies, as Malia does.

    Is it BO or B. O. I wonder how Pres. Obama feels being named after a dog. lol

    Having raised a dog from puppyhood to 2 years old, the Obamas will have their hands full! lol As if they don't have it full enough! I'm delighted by this and let the naysayers say what they want. Are you gonna deny people dogs now too because he's the president? What's next? He shouldn't eat? SHEESH.

    I agree with Chhintz & LittleMeTG

    Yay for puppies and happy stories. I'm tired of hearing about gloom and doom. This story is a welcomed change of pace. Welcome Bo!

    I love reading about this story. I'm a dog owner and it just proves that President Obama and his family are real people with real life, everyday things going on.
    I love it! And, the dog is cute, although I am pretty bias towards boxers:)

    Marie, regardless of how you feel, yes, the Obamas getting their dog is indeed news worthy. Anything about the president is news worthy. That has always been the case, even when Bush and Clinton were in office. Do I detect a bit of jealously?

    We see too many news story of disasters and negativity. It's nice to see something light and pleasant. I enjoy watching the Obama's life as I see it, they are like you and me. So I feel as if he'll understand "our" life's issues as American's. Plus, dog's rule. Enough said 🙂

    I was under the impression they were wanting a puppie. This dog must get huge. It looks like it needs a lot of wide open space to run. It certainly does not look like a type of dog that is content inside.

    From the photos, it looks like Bo is going to be more of the President's dog than the girls' pet. Loved the photo of Bo running behind the President in the hall of the White House. This family seems to have humanized the presidency like we haven't seen in decades.

    @Marie....

    "most people" don't spend time leaving comments on stories they don't like. Report the news from around the US and the world. what's going on with Marie, i mean, why can't she just get a life already? oh yeah.... i have a boxer named Bo. great name 😉

    I disagee with the second poster. I enjoy hearing about the Obanas and their interaction with the press and children. That Mr Obama makes himself so available is a good thibg. Who wants to hear doom and gloom all the time? Why do you tweet at one after the hour, Anderson?? LOL..

    Chill out Marie. Dogs are important. I love my dog and more people should be adopting dogs. This brings adoption to the forefront. Plus, it's a 24 hour news service. I think it's OK if we spend 2 minutes on puppies. HOORAY PUPPIES!

    Barack is getting skinnier by the day. Is he eating at all? My grandma needs to get up there to fatten him up!

    It's a dog and not a news story. Please more news and less Obama family and dog watch. Most people do not care anything about the kids, the wife's dress or the family dog. Report the news from around the US and the world. What's going on with Resnick and that land deal?

    What great pictures of the family with their new family member. Bo looks like he took the President for a good run. I hope the girls enjoy Bo – I just wonder who takes Bo for his walks when its raining.
