Tonight on AC360°, we're tracking a stolen plane from Canada that's traveling across the Midwest. Authorities say two F-16 fighter jets are following the plane that's in the hands of a student pilot. The plane took off from Ontario around 2:30pm and has just 7 hours of fuel. That means during our program we should know how this all ends.

And, don't miss Erica Hill's webcast on the stolen plane and tonight's other headlines during the commercials. Watch our WEBCAST

Wow, I sure didn't expect to tune in to see that a plane was stolen in Canada and flown into the US. Amazing.

Also, I was in Italy a year after the Assisi earthquake. It was so devastating and this one looks just as bad, if not worse. That earthquake also had a lot of dangerous aftershocks. I was supposed to go at the same time as the earthquake, but the event was postponed for a year. My heart goes out to Italy. It's terrifying for them, I'm sure.

The earthquake is horrible. so many people and such devastation. the aftershocks making it too dangerous for a truly thorough job in rescuing.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those in Italy. We had a wonderful time there a few years ago. It is a beautiful country.

Glad that the stolen plane has landed and didn't cause any harm.

So sad to hear about the earthquake in Italy. My prayers go out to the family and friends of the victims.

Our globe is restless. Mt. Redoubt in Alaska; earth quaks in odd places, volcanoes all along the "ring of fire" acting up. Wha's going on? Italy isn't a quake zone.

The earthquake aftermath in Italy is so sad, my heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones.

I didn't realize the earthquake was as devastating as it was until very recently. My thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of those lost during the disaster.

Earthquake is something missing in my reality, but the photos are so impressive; 50 thousand people homeless, over one hundred dead and 1,500 wounded is quite scary.

My best thoughts are with those people!

It seems like every Spring, no matter what the cause is, suicide, murder, or naturally occurring, but there is always more death this time of year.

    What a shame...

I have to think that the defenses these days around DC wouldn't let a fly get near the White House, Pentagon or Capitol.

@glen, i think they would try to get a little more information before blowing it out of the sky, which is not a bad thing.

It's always "flight schools" isn' it? The 911 guys all went to flight school. I guess its the easiest target. If we all have to take off our shoes, shouldn't these enterprises have to take it seriously?

How can such a thing happen?

Stealing an aircraft is not an easy thing, but in less than 2 months I see the second case (there was a case of theft by plane in Brazil too).

A guy steals a plane that he's been qualified to fly? Ok, what's the story? I guess he's never heard of radar or transponders. Could he be on a joy ride?

  34. Glen Up North (Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada)

Sorry to hear a stolen plane made it over the border. Though I'm disappointed someone was able to take off with a Canadian plane, I'm surprised it wasn't intercepted at the border. 🙁

    April 6, 2009 at 10:07 pm |
  35. Jasmine-Spokane, WA

if this man fled on foot then he must have to be heading somewhere, there is no reason for someone to randomly take off, in a different country where he has no where to go. I don't like to speculate, but that's kinda fishy to me....

Evening Anderson, Erica, David G, and all you great bloggers out there. Spent most of the day at the World Curling Championships. Though I have to say the Canadian team performed most excellenty... the USA team was quite impressive with their athletic approach (especially on the last few rocks of each game), and are holding quite well. 🙂
