Tonight on AC360°, recession news flash: the rich are getting poorer. Just hours ago, Forbes magazine published its 2009 list of the world’s top billionaires. The take-away: there are fewer of them, and their fortunes are shrinking. It’s not a story that will generate much sympathy. We get that. But it’s still an interesting look at the recession’s reach. We’ll tell you who has lost the most and who has fallen the furthest. Tonight we want to keep the live blog on this one topic. So, please share your thoughts with us.

A 17 year old shot and killed 17 girls and women at a school today in Germany. That got practically no mention on cnn... why?

This is unreal. There is depressed. There is homicidal. This guy was obviously in some serious, beyond normal mental distress.
I feel for this man who lost his wife and child. I cannot imagine how he will ever be whole again.
He probably had issues you have to watch those quiet types!
How sad for Deputy Myers. The first innocent victims of this economic collapse.
whether or not he has a criminal record is irrelevant. obviously he was mentally disturbed.

Hello everyone - Yes, very sad about these shootings.
Let me ask a separate question: President Obama has pledged to get rid of earmarks and today he announced plans to get rid of them in the future. But at the same moment, the President signed into law a $410 billion spending bill that includes some 8,500 earmarks - legislation, says the White House, that really represents last year's business. Has the President done the right thing here, or should he have fought against the earmarks in this bill, knowing that he would be getting into a fight with leading Democrats on the Hill?

Lori, I agree–as long as these people are rich and they don't need the money presently, they should just stay in the market until it rebounds and they should be fine.
That poor sheriff deputy. What a horrid thing to have to go through. I don't understand what prompted that man to shoot a baby unless he had a psychotic episode and didn't know what he was doing.

You know what? I'm slightly depressed, not happy with the economy, and want more out of life, but I'm not going to run around killing people! How absolutely selfish!!!

It's so sad that this kind of situation cannot be foreseen. Many of the same things were said about the man at Virginia Tech – depressed, odd, etc. People around him knew, but didn't see. So sad.

What a sad story all those people killed for no reason?
It takes a sick, sick person to kill their own mother and grandmother. Not to mention a little baby. And to blame the economy after he quit his job is just unreal.
Precise insight, Lori... I shudder to think at how much someone's "worth" can diminish rapidly once people are less interested in purchasing his/her stock on the market. 🙁

Why not make the obvious conclusion about the shooter in Alabama. He's just plain nuts. Trying to determine a motive won't help anyone except try to allow us to explain the unexplainable.

Interesting topic tonight. As far as the lost wealth, I'm assuming it was "paper" wealth lost in the stock market. The stock market is a gamble - always has been and always will be. The wealth wasn't real unless/until these "billionaires" cashed it out.

I'm going to go ahead an guess that someone who kills nearly a dozen people in such a widespread area is (well, in his case, was) crazy. But I'm still curious as to his motive. I still can't fathom shooting children, that's just too hard to digest.
