If AIG pays the refinery’s when the hircine hit them why do they double dip and charge more for gas this has been going for rp years and now they charge use for it know. After the insurance pays them.

Don't ask, don't tell. Can we just focus on constitutional rights (or civil rights–however you want to frame it), period?

Why can't the IRS seize all Madoff's property and auction it so he can make restitution to all the people he ripped off? The government has done it to celebrities> Fair is fair

If she gained from her husbands business (criminal) then it should be subject to loss as fruits of the criminal activity of her husband.

It's time for Madoff to be in jail. What's with this penthouse stuff? He's charged with fraud ~ jail him! Enough is enough.

I've just left a message for my son. It's the same my depression-era dad told me: buy property. And yet, does that make sense? Only if you can afford it. But with EDUCATION under his belt, he can. The old adage still proves true. Those with education are better off because they have better jobs.

First how is Rush Limbaugh the most influential radio host when only about .2% of black people like him and only about .02% of any other minority likes or knows who he is?

Dang, that Madoff guy is good. I wouldn't put it past him to not only weasel his way out of a jail sentence but to also successfully sue the government for confining him to his multi-million dollar mansion.

Madoff will return about 15 cents on the dollar. It's almost not worth prosecuting him, unless we can watch him rot in jail.

Limbaugh is an easy target for the Democrats, but the Democrats are so caught up in advancing their populist agenda that they're blowing it on the economy. You can demonize Wall street and the fat cats as much as you want as a pretext for your agenda, but Wall Street matters whether you like it or not.

Penthouse arrest!! That Bernie Madoff should lose his penthouse! This is outrageous! The Madoff's should not be able to keep anything related to the fraud!! Now I know that there are rules for the filthy rich and rules for everybody else! Where is the fairness!?

Why is the Republican party in the wilderness? They are on the wrong side of the argument. You cannot solve the current economic crisis without a major stimulus, financial bailout and strong new regulations. A balanced budget and lower taxes for the wealthy won't get it done. That is what the vast majority of economists would tell you and conservatives are arguing against it.

Reuters reported Mrs. Madoff wired $15 million from Madoff investor funds the night before Madoff was arrested.

I think Rush is having a rush. Someone better call his psychiatrist, the knuckle bumping, chest slapping, the deaf leading the blind, come on, he may have popped to many pills.

  23. Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA

Anderson, can you find out how many square feet the Madoff penthouse is–I think most of us can relate to that more than by a room count?

  24. David

Should Madoff be able to hold on to his apartment? Sure! why not? I just wonder when a 18 years old kid makes a shop lifting for a $2 candy bar, he is in deep trouble. But Mr. Madoff is a respected man who has ripped off people for a small amount $50B. You are right, with a B. But what do I know? I am just a regular person, not even a plumber.

I think David Gergen is right - Rush is not the leader of the Republican party - but he's speaking out and his followers are many - look at his radio show ratings and his contract amount.

This Madoff story is crazy - is he delusional?

Maybe a way to create coinfidence in the market is to have some of the corrupt & greedy wall street bankers come out and ADMIT their errors, maybe even point fingers. We need more acceptaance of responsibility on Wall street and some intelligent NEW CAPITALIST leaders on Wall street. We keep giving the existing management more and more money but they don't seem to say anything, not even a THANKS FOR THE HELP!!! Let throw this greedy clan out!

    Hi Glen up North -

I had PC issues... wow a lot of opinions tonight. Another bail out for a company that should know better, an entertainer that believes he's the leader of the republican party, and an actual GOP leader that doesn't have the chuztpah to stand up for his own opinions on Rush.

Madoff.... ugh.. I have to turn off the TV

  28. Marde

Sooner or later the Republican Party has to reconcile the Charlie Crist's and Arnold's. That is where 60% of us are. It's the fringe, Dobson's and Rush that cost McCain the election. Less of Rush is still too much!

Rush speaks for me! All 4 of my kids listened to him as they grew up, are "graduates" of the EIB Institute of Advanced Conservative Studies, are all employed, pay their bills, are honorable citizens, etc. Yes, they had very good parenting, but they also learned very much listening to Limbaugh, and didn't always agree, and continue to learn, even today. That is called tolerence, gents! I am proud to be a ditto head, as they are.

President Obama picked a fight with the wrong guy, and he knows it. So does his staff; hence the damage control

And, people, get out of Washington and take a tour of the cross section of the other places in the nation

"Drive be media" hits it right on the mark!

Yeah a person wouldn't probably want to be related to Madoff right now.

Anderson "The Mole" Cooper, this Madoff story is crazy. How can he actually keep all this stuff, while he took from so many?

This kind of crime should be treated the same as a the drug dealer crime... everything is sold!

Who owns the Madoff property isn't the question. Who paid for that penthouse is the issue and whether she aided him by affording him more money for his ponzi scheme.

Wow, I'm totally loving Roland and David's view points on the Rush issue. So different but both sides make sense and they are so respectful of one anothers views. CNN has an awesome political team.

I am a conservative and still a Republican (even though I am seriously reconsidering my party affiliation). I do not believe that Rush Limbaugh speaks for conservatives. He speaks radically to keep the debate fiery because that is how he makes his living. Without the controversy they generate . people like Limbaugh, Hannity, and the likes of Jesse Jackson and his ultra liberal counterparts have no way to make a living. We need to wake up and quit letting these kinds of people influence our thinking.

    March 2, 2009 at 10:32 pm |

Rush needs to back off on his comments and let the political business to the GOP.

The fact that crooks and swindlers can make demands, and HAVE THEM MET, is a true reflection of how out of control the whole financial, and legal system has become.

So where did Mrs. Madoff get all her assets, bake sales?

I think you should stop talking about a party that didn't win the election.
    Rush who? Who cares...

That is simply not right – what Madoff is allowed to do.

Rush keep on keeping on. Keep on sowing seeds of division, keep your party looking divisive and exclusive very inclusive. Rock on while the rest of the world moves on. Rush is just want the Democrates need.

  45. emilio and marie difeo

why so much time being dedicated to discuss Rush? he has no power, no elective office... lets use the time and your guest to discuss important issue like the econony and credit and as I stated earlier, focus on the economy daily and force the issue with the white house and congress... thanks Anderson and Erica

    March 2, 2009 at 10:32 pm |
  46. Jim M

Why should we not believe that the extreme conservative element, as represented by Limbaugh does not want the Obama efforts to rectify the economy to fail?

That element likely thinks that such a situation would suddenly bring back to power those who have created the failed economic policies of the extreme right.

Just what they think the country needs, National Conservatisim on the order of National Socialism.

Frankly, Rush Limbaugh "is" a headache.

rush limbaugh should not have to apologize. president obama and his vice president biden has both made fun of president bush when in fact they were both not president and vice president. when they were both campaigning for republican failure. i find it hyprocrital and hurtfull that democrats should want bush to fail and yet call people out like rush limbaugh when in fact the democrats have been doing this since the beganing of our american political system.
if they see a need to do this. they should take a lesson from it and keep positive when a repulican president in office. we have freedom of speech. we all have freedom of speech. president obama has spent more time critizing the past administration instead of focusing
    on the american issues.
