I have been listening tonight on CNN and one thing reiterated is that American's need to exhibit some confidence in the ecomonic recovery. One possible action to improve our confidence level is to put Mr. Madoff behind bars, take his assets out of his family's hands, and show that when you cheat and break the law you pay. Most of us have trouble trusting anything or anybody because the financial criminals are allowed to confinue "fiddling" while Rome (America) is burning.

I am tired of hearing that certain companies are "too big to fail"-they have failed, the question is what to do next

If Rush were to go by his own take on Feminism (that it was created to allow unsightly women a shot in the mainstream), does he understand that if he were a woman, he'd be in a cave? Oh yes. I went there.

Why do not the powers that be – lower first time home buyers' interest to 2%, and existing homebuyers, who have lost a job – interest only payment for 120 – 180 days? This will do more good, with not as much throwing of money down the drain.

Yes, policing this will be crucial by the banks.

Why is Madoff allowed to stay out on bail considering all the underhanded things he and his wife have tried?

Forget trying to bail out AIG, why you may ask? It's already too late, the world is in a Greater Depression. I just find it very strange that everyone out there in authority seems to not want to mention the obvious, we're in a depression, not just this country, but the entire world.

I dont understand why one of the AC360 guests implied that staying on the sidelines or removing one'smoney from the market is "irrational"? We have lost $89,000.00 and my husband will be retiring in less than one year. We cant afford the risk of staying in any longer. What good does it do to lose retirement (we already lost $400.00 per mo)? I think one area that people arent thinking of is all the people that are retired that lost retirement pensions that now need to get jobs again, those same people will now be competing with the 20, 30, 40 year olds that have been laid off due to the economy.

Democrats, like so many other Americans and people around the world, became increasingly despairing and horrified with the damage Bush was doing to the party. They did not want Bush to fail in the task of leading the USA to success, prosperity and well being. Rush wants Pres Obama to fail in those tasks, which is ugly, selfish and treasonness.

All Democrats wanted Bush to fail at is fail to keep damaging America.

Most of Madoff’s victims lost everything. He should be able to keep as much.

I agree. I don't see how he gets to keep everything. He can trade apartments with me.

I finally realize how it is that Limbaugh and others can spout this junk.
They are allowed to go on TV and say anything without a challenge from TV hosts. How about asking them to explain where they lead the USA durung the last 8 yrs or what they did for Energy, bridge's and roads, trade, good jobs. I want an Answer from these load mouths

I can tell you what will happen if we let AIG fail. The economy will tank far worse than it already has, and we will be more than 50% likely to enter into America’s 2nd Depression.

Oh yeah, David G. Listening to Rham E. yesterday was like listening to a stradivarious. Admiration of honesty, slight rueful regretfulness that it has come to this. The GOP is just falling right in to the pit.

Ahh, Joe John is here tonight, yay:)

I don't know what the president should do? A couple of weeks ago all the media was complaining that the O team needs to expand from the stimulus plan, but now it sounds like PO should go back to what he was focusing on the economy. Our country is facing so many overwhelming problems that to drop one for another will cause another type of crisis.

For many voters, poor and middle class healthcare is critical and P.O should live up ot his campaign promise.

Watching AIG get bailed out while your child is getting sicker and sicker and healthcare is put on hold is a turnoff.

Your guests make it sound like Obama's team is on vacation or something. Do you honestly believe they don't CARE about what is happening? They want to get re-elected remember that.

Just because one group is working on health care and another is working on energy and another is working on the stimulus package monitoring - doesn't mean those in charge of the budget and banking systems aren't doing their jobs.

As you ALL have said, this has NEVER happened before. They are in a learning mode - just as you all are. Give them a break for gosh sakes.

While you are at it – why not talk about the GOOD stuff in the news, like the fact that CONSUMER SPENDING WAS HIGHER THAN EXPECTED.

Mr. Steele is a figurehead. Rush Limbaugh represents the heart of the conservative movement and the Republican Party.

I was a registered Republican from 18-32 (34 now). I re-registered independent because Bush and the Republican party have sold out conservatives. Obama is going to destroy this economy. Bush started it, Obama will finish it with his current plan.

Similar plans to what RUSH ? What a useless condemnation of policies which have not even had an opportunity to start! There is no magic wand approach. Let's get constructive and look more united in this worst financial crisis. There is still lots of time to play politics before 2010!

    March 2, 2009 at 10:18 pm |
  28. vanessa from silver spring, MD

why do the republicans always crawl back and beg for the forgiveness of rush? Rush wants to talk about TARP. Who introduced TARP?

I am surprised to hear someone really wants the president and the country to fail. I am surprised he said it out loud and many people agree with him. Isn't it time to come together and help each other and therefore help the country?

It is a sad day for the Republican Party. Rush Limbaugh is the worse thing that has happened to the party. He constantly talks about individual liberties and how the government needs to stay out of everything – YET – the minute someone takes a stand against "Limbaugh the Totalitarian." they are treated as if they committed treason. Hey Rush -where is Steeles liberty to have independent thought from you???

Hi! I hope you had a great weekend.
Rush Limbaugh is too extreme–for me– in his "conservatism". I've never understood the appeal of listening to him.

Michelle, I think you are right, they need to scrap it and start over with the banks. Why keep throwing money at the sinking ships?

Why do we keep hearing that we need to "free up credit markets"? It's the fact that Americans borrowed and spent too much in the first place that's brought us to the brink of financial collapse. Borrowing to produce is fine, but all that seems is important nowadays is that Americans borrow to consume. This can't be right, can it?

Can we not replace AIG, CitiBank, BOA and other CEO’s who contributed to the crisis. If America has run out of smart people then we do have to be worried.

Obama said the USA was the greatest country in the world, but he wanted to change it. I think the change we see if a perfect example of the fact he wasn't ready to be President. He doesn't know what he is doing.

    March 2, 2009 at 10:17 pm |
  44. Janice in PA

Rush is a fear monger.....for heaven's sake, even George W. Bush said he didn't want Obama to fail.....why would anyone want our country to fail.....but then again if you're sitting on a $100 million egg nest of a contract, I guess it doesn't matter.

    March 2, 2009 at 10:17 pm |
  45. Glen Up North

I agree with Eric: why not keep the last 8+ years of government "honest" by comparing that 5 trillion spent by the Bush administration vs. the 1 trillion spent by Obama's?

    March 2, 2009 at 10:17 pm |
  46. Fay - California

The GOP will continue to implode if they hold up fearmongers like Limbaugh as the main representative of their party – they seem to have overlooked the fact that most Americans rejected their brand of divisive politics in November.

We spent $18,000 plus on health care and lost $24,000 with our small business last year. Needless to say all of that and the increased cost of fuel went on credit cards. Now, we have too much debt to get more credit even if credit was freed up. This is such a vicious circle. We MUST get health care under control. How can the middle class take any risk when our health care is so outrageous?

Discussion with your panel about whether we will hit the depression in the future failed to define the depression. Maybe we are already in depression? Or, maybe...we will never reach it. Nevertheless, the entire discussion is useless if we don't know what we are looking for. And, frankly, I don't think your guests knew how to define it.
