    Good evening Anderson!

Bravo!!! You are correct...our elected officials should not be spending their time sitting around all day, jockeying for a prime spot to get face time with the President. Aren't they paid by taxpayer dollars? Yet another waste of our hard-earned money.

We need more accountability on those that are being paid with our tax dollars. I applaud you and your team for calling them out.

    Anderson Cooper,

Last week I had asked you for blogging with us more. And you were doing!
    But today where you at?

So the guy was offended that Anderson called him out on the fact he waited in that chair for over 12 hrs to meet Obama? That man needs to "grow a pair" and get over it. If he did not want people to talk about him, then why did he wait there like a groupie when he should have been working?

@Erica, I wish it was Saturday already. I had 2 tests today, a drawing due tomorrow, a paper due tommorow, and i have to work on my college newspaper tomorrow. Being a college student is no easy ride.

Don't worry Anderson, I don't think your Jaded.

Anderson Cooper appears to have had his "feathers ruffled" a bit!

Good response, Anderson. It is up to us to hold our elected officials accountible - if their constituants don't who will?!

Does President have a plan to help people who has retired and all or most of their promised pension has been taken away and they have lost their health insurance–I heard Canada has free health care–if so why can't the USA do what they do?

You know, Erica, I have felt off all day. And I know why, I went to an Ash Wednesday service to see my friend preach. Made it feel like Sunday.

I'll wait 9hrs just to meet you Anderson! wait a minute...me? pathetic? maybe not for 9hrs. I did however with my friend, waited 6hrs to meet johnny depp here in Chicago last year while filming john dillinger. AND it was worth it! -got a shake, hug and a kiss on the cheek!

am i fan of yours Anderson but you're no johnny depp ( wink! wink!) 😀

There is no supply problem, there is a distribution problem. We can and must address healthcare now. This cannot wait another 12 years. When David says the nation isn't behind healthcare and energy, he does not speak for me. We must address these issues now.

When what we desperately need is jobs–all kinds of jobs–I don't think these programs be given the judgemental name of "EARMARKS" wgih implies orruption like $500 hammer, etc. If Obama can follow throughwith promise of full disclosure of expenditures via internet, I don't care if they spend 10,000 to beautify cactus gardens in Arizona. It would give unemployed grounds crew jobs!!

I'd rather see our new Mr. President take his time and avoid the scandal that would surely follow with the wrong pick.

i live in oklahoma city and work at a restaurant and have to say we are busier than ever. i watch all this doom and gloom on tv and feel like its happening in a different country. i was talking about this with a friend and we both agreed that from our vantage point life couldn't be better. now bear in mind we are both just regular old (thankful)working stiffs.

They said this bill has 8500+ earmarks?
Pres Obama said this bill was free of earmarks last night.
    What gives?

Poor Obama. When he or any other candidate decided to run, little did they expect to encounter ... this. Sailing in uncharted waters, I think he's doing the best he can under the circumstances. It gives new meaning to the phrase, "weight of the world on your shoulders".

Every body was so pro Obama, and now every one is questing him as far as a president, and making the decisions to stimulate the
economy. He tried too talked to the republicans, but they would not listen.

Anderson I agree with you. If most of the folks I know sat around on the clock doing nothing for 12 hours I'm pretty sure a pink slip would show up.

  23. Christine

The President last night talks about not spending too much and yet, just turned-on my tv and Anderson talks about the President giving a party for his favorite singer, Stevie Wonder. This a good example of wasting public money when poor people don't have enough money to buy basic goods because of job loss. And yet the President parties?

Senseless comment by Senator Engel. He didn't even have to go there. Add an extra 15 minutes for the feeble swat at Anderson to his record 12 hour plus wait.

That IS pathetic! U r right! That maddens me! We need that time to work for the people for whom they were elected! What a shameful mess.
I hope the Obama's still rescue a pup. Any info? xo

Wow! My mouth just dropped open wide. President Obama has decided to have the "wealthy" senior citizens pay a higher premium for their drugs. How is this fair? Isn't anyone listening to this? This is pure and simple the beginning of socialism. I have the biggest feeling of dread that our country will never be the same. Our government and Our President are running our country into the ground.

Why is it that we complain about money going to help the poor, but say little about money going to the rich? I am glad that our elected officials are sticking up for those that have been downtrodden for so long.

I believe "participation" involves a more engaging activity than sitting on a bench. How about participating in getting things done rather than arguing over petty republican and democratic issues.

  33. michael carroll

Anderson, I agree with the congressman. How do you know that he wasn't reading important documents or doing work while waiting for a chance to shake the President's hand?

We won't stabilize the economy until we stabilize energy and healthcare. Reforming healthcare is a huge part of the solution necessary for ending the recession.

Anderson knows how to get tough and bring the truth on, so they are just mad they got caught wasting our time and our Money! As usual!

These elected officials are just a waste of time! Good call Mr. Cooper

Once again, I'm sick of Republicans complaining about everything under the sun. Too much spending, too much tax, too much everything. I still haven't heard a strong alternative to any of the programs or plans that have come out of the Obama Administration.

    February 25, 2009 at 10:24 pm |
  39. Scott (Columbia, SC)

Not only did Engel think it was worth sitting around all day for a little extra publicity (and maybe it was), but he thought it was worth responding to Anderson Cooper in the Times?

Am I the only surprised he isn't participating in the Live Blog comments? If I can make time, surely Rep. Engel can ... . 😉

    Hi AC 360 Crew,

I am currently a nursing student and I firmly believe in Health Care Reform and I support President Obama and his administration 100%; but Americans must be able to put food on the table, pay the mortgage, and heat their homes.

Hey guys, you keep talking about this being a lot of money, but its nothing compared to the way we spent in WW2. And, many people say it was the WW2 spending rather than the New Deal which finally brought an end to that depression. If Obama's stimulus were on the level of what Roosevelt spent in '43 '44 it would be 3 trillion dollars, which is closer to what some economists think we need.

Not because I am watching your show, Anderson. But I am totally on your side.

    Anderson,

Nice to see that you reported on all the earmarks in the BILL headed to the president's desk. If the president was serious about what he said in his speech he would VETO the BILL and send them back to come up with a BILL with no earmarks. I know CNN loves this guy, but if he keeps this kind of stuff up we will soon be a country where fire power will determine who eats and survives (anarchy).

I'd like to see the top income tax rate be about 80%, I've had it with the rich in this country.

  45. Amanda Walton-Fort Erie, Ontario

Good evening Anderson, Erica, Ed, David, and all the AC360 guests and crew, another day another hair split on the President's budget plan.

Sitting here on the sidelines are almost just as nail biting as all those affected directly in the U.S.

The more stories and ireports I read about how in dire need so many Americans are, the more my heart bleeds and my prayers get louder and more often this financial earthquake being felt in so many places ends soon.

We Canadians have much faith in President Obama, his administration and the American people

P.S.–I do not think Anderson Cooper is at all jaded and feel for his questioning on why Congressmen will sit for 12.5 hours for a prime seat during President Obama's speech.

Did any of Congress wait that long for President Bush? Wondering if this is a common practice or this Prez have that much rock star feeling everywhere?

You know I love ya Anderson and you keep Keeping them Honest!

  46. Jolene, St. Joseph, MI

@Anderson: I thought the same thing watching last night and seeing our Congress hovering all over Pres. Obama to get autographs, handshakes, etc. Good rebuttal (and it was a bit pathetic)....

I was very hopeful when Obama was elected and I understand that it has only been a month, but we need to give money to the people, not the banks. If my mortgage was re-set at the amount my home is currently worth, I could spend money to help the economy. I am so disappointed!!

Anderson...I'm almost like boys play nice...Anderson though you have a right to your opinion...I agree our elected officials should have more to do than be an enthusiastic glorified seat warmer for 12.5 hours...where was he from and did he not have to go to the bathroom people...not even once.
