Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer
Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.

@Jack: Yes! That's what I'm talking about. Is a little insane creativity too much to ask for? This is Hollywood, is it not?
Thanks for stopping by, Anderson. I’m almost out of champagne. Please send some over.
@Jack: Almost out? And you are not slurring yet on your blog comments....I'm impressed!
It was nice of Anderson to drop by tonight especially considering how busy he is. Us groupies do appreciate both you and Anderson letting us blog tonight!
Now why did they have to take a shot of Angelina when Jennifer was speaking! Hmm...wanna start some trouble dontcha people????
@Thomas, we all cried during Milk too on Friday night! Mixed audience of men and women crying.
Good Night all! I got to leave for the airport at 4AM! Ugh! Time to pack! Wishing Slumdog and Milk good luck!
Haha! Good job cameramen... I love how they cut to Brangelina with Aniston on stage. Niiiice
Wow talk about akward Jennifer Anniston presenting Brad in front row please cue the camera shot of Brad
Jack – and multiple other bloggers – yes Steve Martin and Tina Fey are both beyond brilliant. I thought Steve Martin was a good host a few years back. How many years has it been since his "King Tut" debuted?
OOH I like Jennifer's dress..don't like her hairdo though..
what a start studded night
I know, lets see some one do a handstand!
Where's Anderson?
'its okay to be gay!' woohoo!
i rented all 3 Godfather movies after watching them the 1st time out of order which completely confused me. i watched all 3 in that one night and now know them in and out! lol
truly a classic.
I love it when people win when they never expect it. Much more genuine. I've always been ticked that Johnny Depp has never gotten an Oscar. He's done such amazing work.
Jack,
I agree with Anderson, Don't be mean to Actors and Actress LOL!!! He is so funny!!!!
If you saw Vicky Christina Barcelona, you will see why she won. She has been robbed this whole awards season. By the way, I loved Amy, Viola and Taraji in the other roles. Tough category this time around. Amy was a bit ti subtle and Viola's part a bit to small. Taraji was the only one who had a chance of beating P C.
@ Stacy: I was just thinking - when Marlon Brandon refused his Oscar and sent Native American Sacheen Littlefeather up on stage to reject it on his behalf? Can’t we have something like that?
Jack, you must really be gulping them down if you're already out of champagne!
And Slumdog whips out its broom and starts sweeping.
That is 1 for Sumdog.
Slumdog wins i'm sure they'll win best picture too
Slumdog wins. I bet this movie cleans house tonight. I guess I should go see it.
I think CNN should have gone live for the Oscars with the Best Showbiz Team on Television. I really need to know what Wolf Blitzer thinks of the winners.
"if you noticed, they’ve changed the front part of the kodak theater, so that the people on the stage are much closer to the ground, so it feels much more intimate. And im told all the nominees are seated much closer to the front than normal so there is less time spent with people walking to the stage."
Thanks Anderson, that was one of the most interesting things I've heard this evening. I have an B.A. in design – that is why I found this information interesting.
Hey Renee – my dad used to bring home vhs tapes of Police Academy for me & my siblings to watch when we were little. LOL I think they were one of the first movies I've ever seen. Hilarious.
The 1st movie I ever saw in a theater was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when I was 11. Definitely not a movie I remember. : )
Congrats to Slumdog for their first award of the night!
Hard to believe I was 18 and in agony behind the Zion curtain when Harvey was killed. Such a shame.
I am disappointed, but I can't say that I am surprised.
YES! Get it, Slumdog Millionaire!
I love that they flew all the child actors up. They are beyond adorable.
@Fay: I saw the Godfather and wasn't all that into it. *ducks tomatoes*
Anderson was right. Sweet Lord, this is draggy as all heck.
Agree with Stacy and Jo Ann – would not stick this out were it not for Jack, Anderson, Erica, and all you wonderful people out there blogging in the dark.
What does the white ribbon represent that everyone is wearing?
The Oscars for this year has definitely been
upgraded.
Slumdog's first win of the night!
EJ did you see the entire film of The Godfather?
"Don't fall in love with me!" haha all I can see is a taller John McCain and Sarah Palin
ah, i wish I had Anderson's diligence right now. I have to go back to my work too, but this blog is way too tempting!
That was a nice speech from the Milk winner. Ditto to what he said.
I hope Frost Nixon wins adapted screen play!
"Sleep with me?"
"Absolutely"
That was the line they chose? Really?
Lol wtf, Steve Martin?!?
Maybe you should try the boxed wine Anderson should spring for that
I agree Tina Fey and wild and crazy guy Jack Gray i mean Steve Martin
is so funny.
Milk was amazing. Much deserved screenplay Oscar.
We have the TV on in the cafeteria at work. Shameless.
Hugh Jackman rocks – lovely man and not bad looking either...
Ann Hathaway always looks so good
I am hoping Best Actress-Kate Winslett
Good watching Jack, Anderson and bloggers, have a good nite, for me its back to work.
I thought Milk would win for best original screenplay. I am hoping "The Reader" wins for adapted screenplay.
aww Jack..out of champagne already??! I still have some...whoops..nevermind!
Hoorah, MILK!
I saw this movie with a load of friends from my school's Gay-Straight Alliance. We were all sobbing over each other by the movie's end.
did penelope cruz ever win an oscar before? i don't remember that.
i wish i could speak spanish - more so, wish i could speak it w/ penelope's accent
The Godfather is one of those classic movies that I’m embarrassed to say I’ve never seen – maybe someday…
I tried to see it a few weeks back. I just couldn't get into it.
Renee – who doesn't remember 'Pretty Woman?' : ) One of the classics as well.
Milk is my sentimental favorite. My life is the opposite of the screen writers...spent my childhood in the Bay area and parents moved me to a repressive Mormon environment. Makes you appreciate this film even more!
@Jo Ann: I'm not sure I'd even be watching if it wasn't for the blog. But who can resist mocking celebs with Jack Gray?
My favorite is best actor Steve Martin and Tina Fey are so great people!
"Congrats Milk"!
Congrats to Milk, you can hear the cheering outside my window in the Castro here in SF. So cool!
