Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer
Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.

We normally receive a delayed telecast of the show, however it's live this year, but as I am working you guys are keeping me up to date. However, Anderson's comment "slow and dull already" maybe means I should just cut to the chase and check out the highlights! Enjoy watching and blogging. Looking forward to reading all the comments later as the boss probably doesn't appreciate blogging as a part of my workday!
Yay, "Milk"!!! Mustaches all around!!!
Doesn't look like we're in an economic crisis in Hollywood ! Good !
@ Esma – Your Sarah Palin – John McCain comment was freakin' hilarious!
I haven't seen any of these movies for a long time .The last movie i saw was Sex And the City i know get with it Michelle -The cost is too high at the movies !
Anderson made me laugh when he said, "is it just me or does this all seem kind of slow and dull already?" That is my thought exactly, I started cleaning house because I was getting bored.
Best Screen Play goes to Milk. Didn't see the film, but everyone said it was good.
Tina Fey and Steve Martin - both beyond brilliant. Thanks for stopping by, Anderson. I'm almost out of champagne. Please send some over.
Yea for MILK!
Harvey we miss you.
So we will not know who is presenting until
they come out. Tina Fey was a surprise.
@ Jack: What's the deal with a CNN lady live blogging from the Kodak Theater at CNN.com? I thought you were Mr. CNN? Can you get some extra scoop from her with the Marquese blog?
I love how they showed the screenwriting though. You never think about how much work that takes....
Although this show will take forever. I am going to go get the air mattress...
I'm not surprised by that at all.
Okay, the show is getting boring. Somebody needs to get drunk and pull a Christian Bale or I'm going to lose interest pretty quick.
This format makes me feel like Penelope Cruz was just inducted into a cult.
But she sure has a cute little accent doesn't she?
Anderson,
Thanks for coming to live blog tonight!!! See you tonight soon!!! 🙂
Jack, much like a sorority induction, believe me I've done it before. All they need now is some candles and they'll be in business
I hope MILK wins screen play!
I think I'm the only one who saw Happy Go Lucky. So I'll pass on that it was very cute.
Tina Fey and Steve Martin... love them more by the day.
I love Happy-Go-Lucky.
Still can't get over my Tina Fey squee.
Bye Anderson. Don't work too hard.
Ashley...my favorite movie of all time? That's kinda like trying to choose a favorite star in the sky right? I really enjoyed Deterrence but I tend to be a documentary watcher, I loved The US vs. John Lennon.
The Godfather is a cinematographic gem; everyone seems to have a different opinion toward it
As usual it is dragged out and boring, but at least we have the blog!
Fay, how could you have not seen The Godfather? You must go to blockbuster tomorrow and rent it, and rent The Godfather 2 as well.
The rating have been down and they have tried to change it this year appealing to younger auidence excuse me i'm sipping my glass of wine cheers to you Jack!
Have a good night Anderson, Thanks for the info.
Steve Martin and Tina Fey, that was genius and brilliant...
Yes, the show does have a interesting feel about it.
Hey – what movie did Cruz win for? VC Barcelona? I've never even heard of that.
Anderson - yes, it seems slow - always does. Jack Gray's blog is the only reason I'm watching tonight. Usually just watch Barbara Walter's special and tune in at the end for best pic.
Jack is too funny - and I love a good sense of humor. Thanks for doing this Jack.
I really liked Vicky Cristina Barcelona – glad Penelope Cruz won.
I always thought Steve Martin would do a great "Raiders of the Lost Ark" spoof.
I love Tina Fey...she's a very good writer
Hey, look! It's Sarah Palin and John McCain!
Tina Fey. Always good to see her.
Tina Fey always looks great!!!!! And oh my Steve Martin is getting younger or is it me???
Whoa – killer pair – Steve Martin and Tina Fay. Love it.
HA! Steve Martin and Tina Fey.
i sense that anderson has a very short attention span since he has already checked out on us. lol
TINA FEY, WOOT!
Anderson says be nice, and the first thing you do is insult Cruz? Oh, Jack...
and I love anne hathaway!
I agree Jack, way too long for one award... i hope the rest are not announced in the same way! and I was rooting for the lady from Benjamin Button, guess she did not have much of a chance!
that was one unexpected start from hugh jackman
Ok, I was so captivated I completely forgot about the blog. I think this revamping of the show is great.
@Anderson....no it's not just you...seems like the awards are going slow or they are dragging them out. The Golden Globes went a lot faster....
Gotta love that Penelope. (Don't work too hard AC, it's Sunday – but I guess the news business never stops huh).
I can already tell that the Actors talking about the nominees will be panned. But I kind of like it.
Although I found it funny that the actresses seemed to be paired up. I would have sworn that Goldie would have been presenting Marisa due to that whole hooker thing.
@ EJ: My most favorite film of all time was Pretty Woman. I still have it on tape with Richard Geer. Dating myself for sure with you.
