Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer

Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary.  And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important.  But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.

We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.

And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.

If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name

Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

I know some disagree - but given the film, I thought Sean Penn's speech was appropriate.

Great win for Sean – Also, why couldn't they move the show at this pace from the start instead of dragging us along for a gruelling 3 1/2 hrs first?

That was a great speech from Sean Penn, didn't expect it to be that good honestly.

@ Jo Ann, North Royalton.. perfect example of The DaVinci Code, should be interesting to see what they do with Angels and Demons

I'm surprised they didn't play music or drag Sean Penn off the stage for the little political commentary. If I'm not mistaken, they used to do that in the past.

As I said earlier, Milk is my sentimental favorite but it was hard not to route for Mickey Rourke.

I don't recall Sean saying Harvey Milk's name either, but another person who won for Milk did say something about "wish you were around 30 yrs. ago"

Thank you Sean Penn for standing with your gay brothers and sisters, and for the shout out to Mickey

"I'm saying that when the President does it that its not illegal!"

That might be one of my favorite movie quotes ever!

In this case his speech is justified. His role was political. If Harvey Milk was still alive that Proposition would not have passed.

Gee Whiz! The show has gone 15 minutes over the projected time! Big surprise!

I believe in gay rights and gay marriage, but I don't think this was the proper time and place to discuss it.

Sean Penn has a nice tan going on there, he must have fake baked before the show! A little botox too, you don't notice any age lines!

@Don, I agree nobody could have played that Godfather II role except for DeNiro. I'd do more than fall down if I saw him in a cafe.
