Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer
Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

Wow, that was a shocker. I thought Mickey Rourke was going to win.
I knew Richard Jenkins looked familiar but i guess that's how 'tis with a character actor
Milk two wins!
Awwww....I was rooting for Mickey Rourke. He was so wonderful in The Wrestler. No disrespect for Sean Penn, but he's going to be one of those actors who win every time.
Go Sean!
Jennifer Aniston looks happy...LOL
I'm surprised Mickey Rourke didn't win...but Sean Penn was absolutely incredible in Milk.
Sean Penn... great!
Surprised me, but well deserved
Hmm, did sean just diss his wife?
Nobody else but DeNiro could've played a young Brando "Godfather" role. I'd about fall down too if I saw him reading a paper at a cafe...especially around here...(it'd be a coffee shop actually).
YES! Sean Penn!
MILK is such an important film, and Penn truly brought it to life.
Oh snap!!!! Way to go Sean!
OMG thats a surprise
Ooh, Sean Penn!
i am stunned. Sean Penn beat Mickey.
Sean Penn won. WOW! I though for sure that Rourke would get it.
Ben Kingsley did a great job recognizing Mickey Rourke! I'm sad he didn't win! 🙁
Not sure about this one.
I find Adrien Brody inexplicably hot. I do not know why.
These mini speeches have a James Lipton feel to them..
very well deserved award for kate!!
so happy for her!!... what an amazing actress...
@Jo Ann.......and someone should have handed Adrian Brody a razor.
even if Mickey doesn't win, he'll get some good roles now
I don't know who to route for, so I'm routing for all!
I love DeNiro. he was great in Godfather II. He was Gorgeous when he was younger with that famous mole.
@JoAnn, I totally agree...I usually don't like to see the movie if I've read the book. The characters are never what I imagine them to be and they so often have to leave out special little details due to time constraints.
Everybody: M-I-C (See you real soon!) K-E-Y (Why, because we like you!)
OK, folks...big award...drumroll please
@ vanessa. MD – Oh DUH ! I knew I would know it. That is a total fav and classic. And it never fails to make me cry. Thanks for typing all of that – bless your heart. 🙂
I so need to collect those DVD's. No matter how bad things may be, Lucy will snap you out of it. Also loved her in the movie "Mame". She reminds me of my Mom. LOL. In fact we call my Mom "Lucy" because of that, and get this, her best friend is Vivian. No joke.
I love Richard Jenkins because he was on Six Feet Under.. which is my absolute favorite.
brad is thinking "no way am I winning"
Richard Jenkins: 65 films in 25 years ...
what is it, guys?
Michelle, I have to agree...the books are always better...I heard a quote the other day and I loved it..."Never judge a book by its movie!" 🙂
Yikes, what happened to Adrian Brody?
Does anyone else think that Kate Winslet did a remarkable reenactment of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz? Watch it again...I rhink you'll agree! Hey...she's great... just that her speech was a little breathy like Dorothy!
@ Jolene- the episode is called Lucy's Italian Movie from Season 4. Great episode. Especially at the end when she comes in the hotel room all messed up and the director is there and says to her that the movie has nothing to do with grapes, and since you look like that you can't be in the movie and he casts Ethel instead. Lucy facial expression is priceless.
who asked about adrian brody???? lol
Somebody should have handed Robert De Niro a comb!
de niro is in a category by himself
Michelle, The books are usually better.
So does everyone agree that Mickey Rourke will get it?
I would like to see Sean Penn get it.
@ Jolene: Yes! Loved the stomping grapes!
@ Jack-I would have fallen down, DeNiro is my hero!!!
A.R. Rehman deserves it 😉
His music is mind blowing in all bollywood movies....
@Michelle: He was in one the m. night shyamalan flops, but other than that, I don't know.
I love Kate Winslet - glad she won!
Will we see the "natural assets" clip on 360 tomorrow night? It's fun to watch Anderson turn all red.
Gordon Gekko, how timely!
So you have finally warmed up to the group presenters now Jack, lol.
@Chris, don't feel bad......I can't whistle either.
@Pati MC,
Lucy is Enciente is the episode where Lucy finds out that she is pregnant and she she is trying the whole episode to tell ricky, then at the end she goes to the club and slips a note to one of the men to give to Ricky while he is singing. the note says that me and my husband are having a blessed event, and I haven't told him yet, I hear that you sing a song called Were Having a Baby, My Baby and Me, and I was wondering if you can sing it tonight and that will be my way of breaking the news to him. So he says yes and starts singing and goes around to couples in the crowd pointing at them saying is it you then he comes to the table with Lucy and she is nodding her head, and he finally realizes it's her and rushes to her side on his knees and says,"Honey NO, Really" Then he sings the song to her. It is really a sentimental episode. He's crying, she's crying. I loved it.
