Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer
Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.

Tell Sammy we greatly appreciate her selflessness. 🙂
Ohhh Sammy....we really do appreciate your sacrifice on our behalf! But take heart the Oscars are almost over and then you can go for your walk!
Jack – we thank you and your dog for being oh so understanding during this awards presentation and blogging session 🙂
@ Jack, at least you're dog is still getting a walk tonight! Pugsley, my little shih tzu passed out an hour or two ago on my bed.. must have been all that alcohol
Jack, The Coen brothers should have presented best director.
Thanks Shillie, now I remember, he died before the movie was released. Gotcha.
Bonne nuit, buenas noches, good night everyone! It's been fun! CIAO!
Good night Vanessa in TX!!!!
Have a great night and Sleep Well!!!
See you tomorrow night!!!!
Almost done for Oscars!!!!!
The top of Tilda Swinton's outfit looks like she put on a hip length "snuggie" and knotted it at the shoulder....
I would love to try on all the beautiful dresses and pretend I am Cinderella for a day. Then a handsome (and intelligent, he's simply has to be intelligent) man might find my glass slipper.
@Jo Ann, yeah I saw Road to Perdition with my mother and sister when it came out in the movie theater. We wasn't even going to see that movie but we got there late and ended up seeing that movie instead of the film we wanted to see. It was a disappointment at all. Great film. The end shocked me. Tom Hanks was great in it too. And I didn't even realize that Daniel Craig was in it as well.
Maureen I didn't like the Reese dress either, the two different sized straps were not cute IMO.
My dog is like "I hope all those live bloggers appreciate me delaying my evening walk for them." She's just sitting in the corner, smoking cigarettes, reading US Weekly.
Wow, they seated the nominees really close to the stage. Normally, it takes forever for the winner to get to the stage.....with people hugging and congratulating him/her along the way. I guess they wanted to end the show on time tonight.
A Tigger's a wonderful thing!
@Rikki
You know I would read like the New York Times or the Washington Post or one of those but I live in the middle of nowhere and they wont bring us those…
The Internet...it's a glorious thing. 😛
stupid bird!
I found the tiger reference very cute!
Oh Susan...Peter O'Toole...two of my favorite movies Lawrence of Arabia and Goodbye, Mr Chips!
To Anthonia you must really crazy !!!!!
Slumdog has competition ..
P.S. see u tomorrow lol (: xoxo
Jack, they needed beauty to present the award, not some scruffy old guy 😉
Reese's makeup looked a little harsh to me.
Hooray, Danny Boyle! Tigger, too.
@Jack Gray: yeah, you're right. Reese is prettier than Ron Howard, though. Maybe they're sticking w/ eye candy tonight?
gus was robbed!
I agree Jack. In the past I believe they have a director present for director; could be wrong but I don't think so
Exactly Jack, Paul Newman was not only an amazing screen presence, but also a generous and decent man off screen.
@ Vanessa, silver spring, mad & Jack ; One word...vitametavegamin!
Love Danny Boyle's Tigger "bounce" - how can anyone not love Tigger?!
Then again, a lot tonight has been a bit unorthodox or not what you would expect.
Slumdog Millionaire six wins!
@Jack – She has produced three movies but directed none.
Guys,
Had to have a clown ... ups ... a buffoonery!
@Fay: I agree. Newman deserved more.
@Pati Mc: Yeah, I started Engel's book, but then took a break. It's not just the horror that makes it hard; it's also very comprehensive in terms of the politics of the country. Hopefully I'll take another crack at it soon. Then I can move on to my other ones I've been avoiding. Heh.
Brandi!
I have twitter and I will follow you now!
Here comes to oscar to Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionarie!!!!!! Cool, and sweep the all times!!!! Whoa!
Goodnite Vanessa. TX – see ya tom. This is a blast. 🙂
Good for Danny Boyle, but I'm unclear as to thy Reese Witherspoon presented that award. It's usually presented by someone who, you know, has directed a film. Maybe she has and I just am unaware.
I loved that he bounced like tigger! That's beautiful!
Jack -
If you are going to start watching Brothers and Sister - watch from the beginning. It keeps getting better and better, but you need the complete background on the characters to really appreciate it. Kind of like Mad Men that way - hard to fully appreciate when you come in in the middle.
I am really getting tired of all this Slumdog winning. Can anyone else win anything. I really wanted Ron Howard to win for Frost/Nixon.
Danny Boyle!! I love how much he smiles when anyone from his film wins. How sweet is he?
Goodnight, Vanessa in Tx!!! Cyber-see you tomorrow night!
Heath was on last years.
Slumdog continues it's rout.
was Heath not in the tribute ??
Awwwwww, I love Reese! Wonderful actress and a seemingly genuine person.
@Kim, I also don't remember seeing Heath Ledger in the tribute.
Vanessa, Silver Spring, I thought "The Road to Perdition" was great! The ending was so startling!
Chire I think Beyonce's stylist is her mom, hard to fire your mom.
@ Kim, he was in the tribute last year since he died January 22 (my mom's birthday) right before the Oscars
hey jack!
i just got in from work and i'm a bit sad that i've missed out on all the excitement. : (
i'm not gonna lie, i tried hard to hack into my work computer which has everything guarded by an impossible password. haha.
@Fay & Jack, totally agree, Paul Newman deserved so much more...
