Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.

Good Lord...are there more commercials than usual...reminds me of watching AI 15 minutes of commercials for every two songs actually sung.

@Jack. OMG don't get me started. My mother got me into that show. I own every single episode of I Love Lucy and Lucy Desi Comedy Hour. It is the Best show of all time. I'm such a huge fan, well i'm obsessed i admit it, i can look at a clip and name the episode title. That episode with richard was hilarious. She got stuck behind his fence and she was trapped in the house and Richard and Ricky showed up and she hid under the bear rug and at the end had him sign the orange. Classic!
so i love the memoriams because i go "omg the Jaws guy died" and my mom goes "his name is not the "Jaws guy"" and then i go "Aww Chef" and i have to explain to her why i call isaac hayes "chef" and what South park is...its a learning experience
She'll always be Tracy Flick to me.
I need to do some shots of Red Bull – and I don't even like that stuff.
Is it me or did they not do Heath Ledger in the tribute?
A little bit of Newman there for a moment. I saw him race his datsun in Portland, Or. once. He had a real 4-leaf clover taped to his dashboard.
Hugh really is a good host.

@Fay: I agree. I would have liked to have seen a separate tribute to Paul Newman. He was a true giant. Very few movie stars of his stature.

They probably should've done a more comprehensive tribute to Paul Newman.

Aww Paul Newman, The last film I saw him in was Road to Perdition. He as a cutie when he was younger though.
@Jack: About the hype for Slumdog. Yes, it's there, but regardless... most everyone I ask about it hasn't seen it. So it's there for those of us who are familiar with it, but I think it's mostly lost on everyone who refuses to read the screen for part of the film. Shame, huh?

I watch Brothers and Sisters-I'm in "like" with it, but not "love". Sometimes, the drama is a bit over the top.

Richard Widmark, I remember him from that I Love Lucy(The best show of all time) episode. Him and Van Johnson made an appearance on that show.
- To make clear, it ANNOYS me that there are only white people on the show. Hoorah for the sexual diversity, but in other departments... Brothers & Sisters is lacking.
