Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer
Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.

I still can't believe that Bernie Mac is gone. I can't even watch The Bernie Mac Show anymore, i get too emotional.
Oh this is different! Here you go Jack weren't you asking about this part earlier?
@Jack, re: Brothers & Sisters.
If you're one for soap operas, go for it. It's mostly pretty cute and funny, and overly dramatic at times... the big problem I have with it is the screaming. The wealthy family often has lavish dinners that end in disaster. OH, WALKER FAMILY. It gets tiresome! And there are only white people in the show.
I watch it for the gay kissing, hehe.
I too am following you guys as well as you Jack

just in case lol
great tribute segment !!
I love Queen L.......
She is great actress and singer!!!!
queen has come a long way !
Time for the somber reflection of those who have left us 🙁
No Roweena, Kevin is THE best one on that show.
Jack it is kinda a chick show. If you like Grey's
or Desperate Housewives, you will like it.
Jack, I think you are right about "Slumdog" raising unrealistic expectations. When I saw it my expectations were very high, maybe that is why I was a bit disappointed. I was expecting something more.
So what do you have planned for your next "live blog?"
gasp ... fading fast, Jack... but here's your Newman tribute (and all the other dead people)
@Stacy: OMG yes, John Legend is beyond awesome, I love his music and he is classy! I love ordinary people and save room, and the new album is great! The man is a dream!
Brothers and Sisters is a very good show.
Queen Latifah looks great. Bold color with that Blue, but it works. Hear comes the tribute.
hope every one is having a good night and congrads to the winer and the nominees for every cat hope you all have a safe and relaxed night
queen latifah is very likable
Queen looks good...
You know Jack I've never watched Brothers and Sister but I've also heard good things and keep saying that I should watch it!
@ Jack – Good show, yes, worth getting the DVD's.
@Jack, I haven't gotten into Brothers & Sisters. I really don't watch much ABC shows. Except The View, and sometimes Wife Swap and SuperNanny.
Jack - I agree on movies not being able to live up to so much hype. That's why I like to see them when they first come out, to form my own opinion. I totally loved Gran Torino and I think it was because I hadn't heard anything about it before I saw it.
Efron seemed subdued, probably nervous as hell. He is still a child compared to all the rest.
@Jack yes, Season 1 is kind of okay, but bro's and sis's getting better from then on... love Rachel Griffith's character!
Wow, does Coke need all of this advertising?
@Jack: re: Brothers and Sisters. I watched part of the first season and lost interest. It wasn't bad though.
@Pati Mc: Richard Engel's book is staring at me right now. I've had it for months. I need more hours in the day.
Alright everyone, let's rally.....time to let out a big yell and have some caffeine. We've come this far. We can't turn around now!
Jack, Brothers and Sisters is awesome. Very complex and character-driven. You should totally get the DVDs.
Night everyone! Must go – work in the morning.
@ Randy
No, can't! It's a crisis, my friend! lol
Hmm, it might be my TV......the room seems really dark as opposed to previous Oscars.
Jack, the hype and endless promotion of Slumdog is probably the main reason I haven't gone to see it. I'll wait for the DVD.
Jack...Brothers and Sisters is a great show. Realistic, dramatic, and great acting. I'm addicted.
@Jack – Brothers & Sisters is only second to Desperate Housewives. I just tuned in this season, and am completely hooked. Excellent show!
Geez, start moving the show along – it started off so well and now I'm starting to fall asleep.
@ Jack, it is a fantastic show, a lot of family drama, obviously but honestly you can't go wrong with Sally Field
I've been using the public library to catch up on movies and tv I haven't seen...saves money.
remember Liam in "High Spirits"?
@Jack, I'm on twitter! as Skeeen. : )
Sooooo dissappointed that Sukhwinder Singh didn't perform Jai Ho, that would have been EPIC. Anywho, still happy for Rahman! Efron just failed though. Has and always will.
brothers and sisters? havent heard of it either. whats it about jack?
Here is my twitter http://www.twitter.com/megandresslar
I love Frida's dress. So cultural. It has that Bollywood feel to it.
I love Liam Neeson. He should get the Oscar.
OH SNAP, UPSET!
I agree... the only best picture movies I've watched are Slumdog and Benjamin Button and despite being an Indian, I must admit that Benjamin is a better made movie in all aspects despite being long, almost mammoth, bizarrely plausible or not!
@Jack: Yeah, I haven't seen Slumdog yet, but I'm trying not to let my expectations get as high as the hype.
I am enjoying the Oscars and most specially Hugh Jackman. I was stunned how versatile and flexible the gentleman can be. He is doing a great job. Good evening everyone! 🙂
OMG, how many more hours is this thing?
@ Rikki.. Amen to that! Only a few hours from you and our local newspaper and news is a joke (and one of my best friends is an anchor for one of the stations even)
I wonder should I go see Liam's new film? It looks pretty good.
"It's going to be a show that takes some bold risks," said Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences. Ermmmmmmm??? Taking the audience on a trip to Snoreville, USA is a bold risk – sigh ~ someone stick a fork in my eye
