Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer
Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

@jack: that was my worry too, that slumdog would be too hyped up. But honestly....it meets the expectations. At least in my opinion it does.
Bravoo! that preformance was like LionKing on Broadway! wow, it was okay but the preformance should of been alittle shorter.
Maureen I was wondering the same thing, can he not afford a stylist?
Is not M.I.A's music in Slumdog.
So I'm watching the commercial for "Brothers and Sisters" on ABC. I've never seen it but hear good things. Worth getting the DVDs?
@Peter. They can "revolutionize" it all they want but it's still centered around handing out trophies. And The technical categories are boring but the nominees work just as hard as the actors, directors, etc so I'm glad they're given airtime.
Have to admit I have been fascinated with Bollywood movies for years and the best part is when they break out into all those amazing musical numbers. Glad they won!
AT Last again! Now it's in a commercial.
Why only three nominees in the song category this year? Bruce was robbed!!
Oh yay! pee break!
"All my life I've had a choice between hate and love..."
Rahman got it.. You da man!
@Jo Ann – Anytime! If you ever need any extra info, Google me and message my Associated Content profile.
@Maureen – Poor kid just wants to be taken seriously. Guess he thinks the hair will help, and it's just not working. 🙂
@Gisselle: I love John Legend too, specifically his song "Show Me."
@Fay: I try not to think about her. *shudders*
Jamie, Philly, Come on, give old Mickey a break, he's been through a lot and he earned it!
@ Maureen, I think that Zac Efron is trying to be old hollywood with his hair, but someone needs to tell him it's not working.
now that Best Song speech was a good one, from the heart
@ Jack, got my Twitter up.
@Stacy...You know I would read like the New York Times or the Washington Post or one of those but I live in the middle of nowhere and they wont bring us those...and our local newspaper is the biggest joke of a newspaper ever! I can't even stand our local newscasts so I tend to favor the national news hence 360! 🙂
@ Mave
Seria um prazer!
It would be a pleasure!
Here's the thing about Slumdog Millionaire, in my view. It's an excellent movie. It absolutely is. But I'm worried the hype is getting to be too much. People's expectations are going to be unrealistic.
Jack,
I have twitter..... Here is twitter.com/megandresslar, Now I am following your twitter! 😀
Other sweep Slumdog Millionare!!!!!! That is great music!!!!
@xtina: you are so right. Oscar Night without Jack Nicholson in the front row is like a day without sunshine ... or something like that.
Slumdog Millionaire five wins!
I love John Legend, and I love newspapers! my favorite is the St. Pete Times!
@ Stacy – OMG don't get me started on non-fic books. I will have to grab Michael's book – I have heard of it and since he is Jack's bud and all. Heh. Loved Richard Engel's book, and Dexter Filkins' as well. You will prob know him, he writes for The Gray Lady.
We ARE well informed, I read some papers on the net, but have to still have my "real" hard copy once in a while.
re: newspapers - still got to be able to hold my Chicago Tribune in the morning - even though it makes my fingers black.
What's with Zac Efron's hair??
Aww, no M.I.A. And no Oscar for her, either. At least the other Slumdog song won!
I love Alicia's dress! I would wear it everywhere.
Chris Sosa, Thanks for the encouragement!
THAT was a really cool performance. I wish M.I.A. had been there to perform as well!
Congrats AGAIN to Slumdog Millionaire!!
@Jo Ann: I completely agree re: Elfman and "Edward Scissorhands." I might be mistaken, but I think he did work for the TV show "Felicity" as well.
Great Performance
I'm convinced it's impossible to put on an entertaining Oscar show–forget about the yearly promises of "revolutionary" changes in production values, new hosts, etc. Remember the hype around Letterman, Stewart, Goldberg, etc? Those shows were all a bore. That's because 40 minutes into every years' show, we're barraged with one technical category after another. Seeing a string of boring acceptance speeches by unknowns is a total downer. Not even Jerry Lewis can save this ship.
John Legend? Well that's one collaboration I never thought I would see...Huh. I'm a bit confused.
Ooh I love John Legend! 🙂
Bollywood is so awesome! I'm glad the two "woods" are joining forces!
Wow, I think one of the dancers is a regular for Christina Aguilera!
I'm on Twitter Jack! And I'm a proud follower of Jack Gray!

I like the cultural feel to the Oscars this year. Not your typical musical selections.
...this needs to end. Now.
Maher is really anal retentive when it comes to food.
And here I thought that the oddest thing about Bill Maher was his friendship with Ann Coulter.
I don't think Mickey Rourke should win at all-Sean Penn all the way or Frank Langhella he was fantastically brilliant in frost/nixon
Jack like you i am a blogger and if you're bored during the music portion check my blog out here

OMG I love John Legend! Wow a wonderful way of surprise, this is performance is simply beautiful, rich and filled with culture! Go Oscars!
Did Danny get anything for "Nightmare.." couldn't remember.
So Jack....us groupies are following you on Twitter but you aren't following any of us....why not?
it's just not he same without Jack Nicholson in the front 🙁
@Kelly – Given the timing, and Jack's silence on Andy's whereabouts, I'm going to have to agree with you. And he thought he was being so sly with that "60 Minutes" cover... 😉
Jack, i'm on twitter, http://twitter.com/mangalorean and yes congrats to Rahman and for all the history he is is making.
