Jack Gray
AC360 Producer/Writer
Good evening and welcome to the AC360 Academy Awards Live Blog. The winners, the losers, Jack Nicholson’s sunglasses…we’ve got your running commentary. And sure, considering all that’s going on in the world, the Oscars aren’t hugely important. But if you’re looking to get away from the bleak news-of-the-day for a few hours, then this blog is the place for you.
We should also point out that we’re not encouraging you to change the channel from CNN, but if you’re going to watch the Oscars anyway, you might as well watch them with us.
And even if you’re not watching them, because of your feud with Kate Winslet or whatever, we think you’ll still enjoy the live blog. I’ll be with you from 8:00pm Eastern Time until the Oscars finish airing here in New York.
If you would like to participate in our Live Blog (and we hope you do) please follow our rules.
Here are some of them:
1) Please keep your comments short
2) Don’t write in ALL CAPS (we don’t like screaming)
3) Use your real name
Please note that due to volume we may not be able to post all comments.

@Jack, I still don't understand Twitter.
@ Jack, I'm following you on Twitter. I have one, http://www..twitter.com/shaqfan
Nite Brandi 🙂
Ah the silky smooth vocals of John Legend! 🙂
Hey lay off Zac.
I am very disappointed in the way the award was given to Jerry Lewis. I thought Eddie Murphy rushed through the honor and the video was poor. I remember when they gave this award to Steven Spielberg. The film was so much more emotional and the award meant so much more. Shame on the producers for rushing through this award. Jerry Lewis spent his entire career helping children and the award should have been handled better
@Pati Mc: We bloggers are so well-informed. Heh. I'm addicted to blogs too, as well as nonfiction books. Earlier Jack mentioned his friend Michael Hastings. I'm reading his book, "I Lost My Love in Baghdad." It's a tragic and compelling story, but also a great peek into the situation in the country at that time.
I hate to say it but I am bored with the awards this year. It may be new but it's not improved. It has its moments but enough to hold my interest. I just want it to be over.
Jack,
I will buy the latest movie from High School and I will send you a gift ... lol
Isabel, wish I could speak with you in Portuguese. My father is first generation American. His parents from the Azores, he was so worried that we become "proper" Americans that no one in my generation speaks Portuguese...that is if you don't count the odd "colorful" phrase here or there. 😉
Jo Anne – Thanks! Keep at it. Gets way easier over time.
RE: Newspapers
Since my college supplies free copies of the New York Time I read that, but I check out the post as well. I only buy the paper if somethiing exciting happened or if there's a picture that I want in it. Sometimes it's just nice to have the (sorry that song the guy is singing just caught me off guard lol). Anyway, yeah sometimes it's just nice to have the paper.
I do love Danny Elfman's music. Some day he will win the Oscar. He should have been nominated for "Edward Scissorhands!"
M.I.A.?
Love the performers' outfits.
Slumdog going to run the table in all of its categories?

RE: newspapers:
I read The Gray Lady, Washington Post, Daily News, and Wall Street Journal – and yes my hands get bacl from the ink. That is part of the fun. I just have to hold the paper in my hands. Old school.
@ Vanessa–don't worry, I love people regardless of their diet.
@ Stacy–much obliged, tell them to show me some mercy!
Chris Sosa, Good for you!! I am working on it!
@ Brandi
You moved me now!
You answered me in Portuguese, at AC360!
Thank you ... very delicate!
Do you speak Portuguese?

i must take the yellow cockatiel out of his cage to fly now. he is screaming at me. yes, seriously.
i shall see you all tomorrow pm. 🙂
goodnite all!
@Vanessa – I remember when I first "converted." I used to add meat and/or cheese to everything! It was certainly difficult for awhile.
@Polly – I like your phrasing, "cult of personality." So true.
@Ashley: Good to know. 😛
nothing grabs the audience back like some 'elevator music' !
@ Cooper "Is Eddie Murphy even Hollywood relevant anymore?" – In my opinon, yes. While some of his recent films have been bombs - he's still made his mark in the industry. .... and he's "Gumby damn it Gumby".... for those of us old enough to remember.,
jerry lewis looked great
